First impressions...
Mini VGT looks good surprisingly. I'm not a fan of the base Clubman, but this one looks beefier, almost like a rally car. Not a fan of the zany colour options, so I went for the black one (was gonna get the red one, but the brake calipers aren't painted
). Handles like a dream, but still one of the slowest VGTs unfortunately. And the engine sound is average. And the intro video is one of the cheesiest. A welcome addition to the VGT stable, but not a great one I'm afraid.
Midfield!!! Ah this brings back memories from my GT2 days
The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. You can see a lake as you head towards the chicane on the backstretch, and with time set to evening some sections are deceptively dark & tricky. Back in GT2 there's a bump in the first tunnel that destabilized the car, but if done right it can help you to set a nice Scandinavian flick to the next corner. Guess what? That bump is still there! Awesome feeling going through that in 1080p HD after all this years
I'm still not a fan of the reprofiled turns 1&2. And the high kerbs are annoying. But all in all a great job by PD in refurbishing this old classic 👍
I'm never a fan of B-Spec mode, so I don't have high hopes. The new system DOES work pretty well surprisingly. The normal "Pace Up" commands are still useless (even more so now without the driver "heat" meter), but the "Real Time" commands work as advertised. Bob slipstreams, changes lane and overtakes as commanded. Just for lulz I entered a fully tuned Toyota GT86 in the Supercar Challenge at Silverstone (100PP down on the AI), and Bob got 4th place. With a bit of practice 2nd place is maybe possible. Not too bad 👍
New paint options are awesome. A couple times I forgot what paint I use for wheels or brakes, now you can see which chip is that specific shade of grey. Really helpful for an OCD like me
Also painted my LM55 matte black and 2X chrome for extra awesomeness
Not a fan of the reduced FFB for Red Bull X cars. The previous FFB strength were good enough IMO. But I rarely drive these cars so it's not a total disaster like with the Lotus 97T a couple of updates back.
Overall, quite a good update (mainly for Midfield). Now I can't wait for the March update with Lexus & Alpine VGTs (and who knows what other surprises)
