Maintenance Notice this time for GT6 thank God!

Not a month goes by that I'm not talking with a group of developers about console transitions. I've been through 5 myself, most folks in development today where still in jr high when the 360 and PS4 came out... Flip phones were the most impressive tech toy of the time...

The wild card in this generation is mobile and tablet as they are fast outselling laptops, much cheaper to produce games (and the consumer standards are low)... Floods of people going over there for work and that will retard their careers in the long run if they still desire to return to the core space...

Its a huge topic and you made some good supporting points that many developers don't even realize.

This console transition is very different for me.

The last one (Xbox 360 and PS3) was very compelling because it brought us into the HDTV world at a time when there was very little else to provide HD content. It also provided 5.1 sound. That was a huge jump in perceivable visual and aural fidelity and excitement. For many, it was THE reason to buy an HDTV.

This time around, we have already transitioned to HD in the form of 1080p, streaming video services have caught up to 1080p, and next gen consoles don't provide much other than a refinement of details in games.

Last time around, for a few hundred bucks, we said "WOW!" And "Can't wait to see movies at home that look and sound this good!"

This time, again for a few hundred bucks, if we look closely enough at "next gen", we see "Oh yes, sure that's a nicer picture, but there aren't many games I'm interested in yet, and the game I'm interested in seems to have been stripped down to meet the launch date. Can't see why I should spend the money.".

That's my perspective anyway, yours may be different.

Hmm. It said on the Gran Turismo site 0:00-2:00 EST and being they're 3 hours ahead of PST that's where I came up with 9pm. But like you said, who's counting.

Anyone thinking Shuffle Racing is going to come back~? If an update is really inbound within this maintenance period, and it's really the Community features, do you think Shuffle Racing will be re-added?

If it's indeed the Community update, I can't wait to see how the Quick Race matchmaking turns out.

B-Spec in GT5 was like porn; You want to participate, but you could only watch. (GT4 was actually different as Bob could just do the races you didn't want to do or have him take over for a stint or 3 in an endurance race.)

Since they somehow saw fit to gut endurance racing I really wonder what direction they will take with B-Spec.


Maybe they can just bypass the whole "racing" thing altogether, it is just too time consuming after all. Maybe take a page from online Risk and just use a couple rolls of some dice to declare a winner. 💡


Ok, ok, I am looking forward to seeing what they've done, for better or worse.

Definately agree there bud as gt4 was ok for hand race over to bob when wanted to do

Oh god if they're going to do it when they feel like then the maintenance won't happen til next year sometime so knowing PD :P
 
Zero info on updated features or cars to be added on official GT website. I expect nothing to come of this maintenance period. Look at the hype cycle for previous updates or improvements. Mario's car, VGT, etc... Well, I guess that's been it. But they had hype. Nothing here.

You really expect a "back of the box" feature? Don't bet on it!

I usually don't get excited for maintenance, but I have a good feeling about this.

If there is an update, could someone, pretty please with bacon bits on top, test and see if they fixed to pit stop glitch?

Think it's a lost cause to be honest.Don't get me wrong would love an update or dlc or anything!! just can't see anything happening until at least the end of March. PD hype absolutely everything, to try and make people forget about screw up's.There has been zero comment from them in about a month,honestly guy's don't get your hopes up.
