^ I agree with you about Sandoval not making it, he's an everyday player while Victorino is an average 4th outfielder.

And I hope that Manuel doesn't start Hamels, he sure as hell doesn't deserve it. Cain, Lincecum, Haren, Marquis and Santana are more worthy of starting the game.

I don't care who starts it.. The top 3 are defiantly Haren, Cain and Timmy though... Santana hasn't been so dominant this year... If Hammels was on the Giants he would be the 5th or optioned downed to Fresno (AAA.)

I hate sounding Bias towards Sandoval but its hard to show excitement for a guy who swings as much as he does and strikes out so little. He started slowly in the power department but with the way hes swinging he could hit 30 big ones without to much trouble... Hes not the only one showing progress... Ishikawa lately has been on a tear, he only has 7 HRs...

I can't wait till we play the Phillies... There terrible pitching + there tiny ass park will = a few more homeruns for Panda!!!

He is already starting to get the Bonds treatment, and he is learning to not swing at wild pitches better. So they are either going to walk him or have to throw him a strike which he will clobber! I love watching him play, he has so much energy and seems to be loved in the clubhouse.

At the beginning of the year I loathed Juan Uribe... But he starting to show a log of good signs.. He can play 3b, SS and 2b all well with a cannon of an arm. And is starting to show his power at the plate. If we can get rid of Aurilia and keep him as a Utility we are showing signs of contention.

In other news, John Bowker is back up and went 0-3 last night, but 3 at bats don't show everything. He was sitting .340 down in AAA with over 60 RBI's and 16 HRs. I hope he can start showing his true power!

Another win for the Astros from Friday night's match. This time, a 6-5 victory over the Nationals. Or in the mind of Colin Cowherd or somebody, a lackluster matchup that nobody [not from southern California, New York City, or Boston] frankly cares about. But for people who do give a damn about the Astros, that's win #43 (Richard Petty for you NASCAR fans (the 43 reference)). I'm hearing that after the All-Star Break, the next series my Astros will endure will be brutal. I'm probably thinking of teams like the Cubs, Cardinals, Phillies, and teams like that. With this win, we're now 3rd Place in the NL Central. I just hope the Astros finally straighten out the kinks they've had all season up to this point and really CONTEND in the NL Central.

Here now is a look ahead for the rest of July for my Astros. After looking on Yahoo! Sports, I found out my Astros will be taking on the L.A. Dodgers starting Thursday next week. That is followed by a stop back home for a three-game set against the Cardinals (7/20 - 7/22), a series against the Mets (7/24 - 7/26, and one of my Facebook friends will be in town to see that game in person), a four-game clash in Chicago against the Cubs (7/27 - 7/30), and finally, we have a series in St. Louis against the Cardinals to close out the month of July. That IS going to be brutal! But first, we need to take care of business against the Nationals.

Saturday baseball on FOX will have on the Yankees at the Angels, or the Cardinals at the Cubs. Then on Sunday night on ESPN, it's St. Louis at Chicago Cubs. Hope your favorite team(s) win this weekend!

Prosthetic must have been really happy seeing (or at least on TV) Johnathan Sanchez throw a no-hitter against the Padres last night.

I was happy as well when Dan Haren threw a complete game shut-out of the Marlins last night. :)

First true start... almost a perfect game, but a no-hitter isn't too shabby. The wonderful world of baseball, folks! I managed to listen to the St. Louis at Chicago Cubs game on ESPN radio. It seemed pretty close even with the Cubbies leading 3-0 when I first tuned in.

It wasn't his first true start... He was 2-8 before last night. Hes been having some mechanic issues and sent him to the bullpen to work on it much like Barry Zito last year.

Winning 45 games is now impossible. The best they can do tomorrow will be to be AT .500 heading into a brutal schedule after the All-Star Break. The Astros can either win this series or have to settle for a split. What a damned shame for the Astros.

Astros blanked the Nationals 5-0. So we're heading into the All-Star Break with a 44-44 record. Trying to go above .500 is as easy as beating the Cubs at Wrigley Field next series. If you think I sounded casual saying that, it's true. But it's going to take a lot to ensure that they can get it done in their next series. And yes, it's an NL Central match. No excuses- you have to contend in your division to be great. The Astros have some work to do heading into the second half.

Later tonight- Cardinals at Cubs on ESPN!

This just in...

I read that Tim Lincecum will be the starting NL pitcher in the MLB All-Star Game. Yes! We got a chance to ice the AL boys with a solid pitcher in the All-Star Game. Should make one GTPlaneteer from the Bay Area very happy for Lincecum to be the NL starting pitcher...

As someone said on here, the AL plays money while the NL plays baseball. Speaking of the NL, an NL guy (let alone an NL Central guy) won- Prince Fielder. The longest homer I saw clocked in at about 497 feet. Some of those longballs could have hit the Gateway Arch for all I know!

Up next, the All-Star Game tomorrow night on FOX. So who you got to win the All-Star game... the AL or the NL?

Prince hit one that was 503 or something like that... The fans gave him a HUGE round of applause.

I'm still bummed that the Giants now only have one representation, which sucks because we have the second best record in the NL. Stupid Matt Cain getting hurt like that... Oh well, the NL will still win because Timmy will be on the mound!! :sly:

I think Haren got snubbed for the start, but it really could of gone either way as there stats are almost identical across the board.

Haren has better numbers (lowest ERA, WHIP, best quality start %) than Lincecum, but because the D-backs are so bad this year I imagine that's why he isn't starting.

All-Star Game's about to start soon! Good luck to both the American League and National League.

AL wins again. 4-3 victory for the AL. NL singing the blues yet again, having not won this contest since 1996.

A few notes from the All-Star Game... Lincecum was hurling heat at the AL, but I don't think he was severely consistent. Early fielding errors by the NL resulted in those early runs being put on the board. I know this is just an All-Star Game, but you have to play like all-stars. The one who caught that would-be home run later in the game made a GREAT play. Maybe I'm a bit surprised that nobody banged the ball out of New Busch Stadium. Maybe those who play in the Home Run Derby should also be able to play in the All-Star Game. I'm a bit saddened that Miguel Tejada (HOU) was last to bat for the NL in our loss.

So the AL will get home field advantage for the World Series. Now it's back to baseball and our own respective schedules. The two Astros who played in the All-Star Game will have to pack up and head out to Los Angeles to meet the Dodgers.

Best of luck to all of your teams as we resume the regular season.

[UPDATE] We're taking on the Dodgers in L.A., NOT the Cubs. My apologies. I changed this information in this post.

Halfway home! We won 3-0 in L.A. against the Dodgers (Prosthetic smiles and wants us to sweep them in this 4-game set). So what's the "halfway home" thing? Simple- Cecil Cooper predicted a 90-win season, and we're halfway to 90. The Astros will have to play hellishly hard and consistent if they want to meet or even beat that 90-win prediction.

Hope your teams did well in Thursday's matches!

Lincecum started because hes had more dominant starts in the games hes won. That's my only real guess...

And good job Astros for killing the Dodgers... keep doing it!!! This is our time to catch the Bums... In all honesty, I think the Dodgers were a better team with Piere. Oh well... I don't mind seeing Manny going 1-4 with 2 k's.

Timmy pitches tonight against the Bucs... And then we got to Philly!!! And Sandoval can show stupid Manuel that he picked the wrong player and prove that there stadium is a complete joke by hitting 10 home runs in the 4 game series.

The Astros are 8-1 winners over the L.A. Dodgers for Game 2 of this four-game series. An interesting statistic... when Roy Oswalt gets at least 7 runs in run support, Roy Oswalt (or the Astros?) is 45-0. Make that 46-0 now in this situation. Game 3 is Saturday night. It's the Brick Red of the Astros (though I do wish they kept the rainbow colors sometimes) against the boys in Dodgers' Blue.

Make that 46-44 with our record.

Congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks in taking down St. Louis in St. Louis 4-2. If my Astros win at the Dodgers (currently 2-0 in the ???/?????? of the 5th), we may have a chance to pull forward in the NL Central.

[UPDATE] In typical Astros fashion, with a chance to pull ahead in the NL Central... we fail. Dodgers won 5-2. We never led the entire game. So we're playing for either a series win or a split series. Sorry we couldn't get a Dodgers' sweep, Prosthetic. But we can still take care of the Dodgers Texas style on Sunday.

Astros lost 4-3 yesterday afternoon. So it's a series split. We're stuck on 46 wins heading into our next series.

Boo

D-Backs traded one of their good players, Felipe Lopez

They should of kept going down the road of trading guys that have not produced, Eric Byrnes, about 5 guys of the bullpen, Jon Garland, etc.
