Im sorry but if i would have almost got hit in the head with a pitch then hit it out the park I would have a smerk too cause its funny. Then the dodgers catcher had something to say so Parra said something back then did the big boy move and went into the dug out and ignored it. Thats when kershaw opened his mouth thinking he was a tough guy. Then instead of calming down and getting over it and moving on like any adult would, he had to go and hit parra with a pitch. Come on now?! He deserved to be kicked out! For being one of the best pitchers in the League he sure didnt act like it.

Tigers! First time winning the AL Central and first title since 1987 when they were in the AL East. I stayed up to watch the whole game. No better feeling when your team clinches a playoff spot. So excited for the team and Fister, wow what a difference he made since coming to Detroit. He got no run support in Seattle and now he has won 5 in a row for Detroit. Pretty good 1-2 punch the Tigers have I'd say. Can't say enough about Inge. Got sent down and worked his way back up and now he is playing the best baseball of his season. Any Tigers fan will always remember Magg's homer to send the Tigers to the Series. I hope to see the same theatrics in this years playoffs. Detroit Tigers!

Looks like if all goes well, the National League will be without... the Houston Astros. The sale of the Astros would move the Astros to the American League. The only real bonus to this is that the Astros/Rangers deal will be more of a proper rivalry rather than an Interleague showdown. I do hope that if we do really become a proper American League team, I absolutely hope we can get some proper offense worthy of American League baseball.

Commentary from the Houston Chronicle on the move to the Astros' move to the AL: http://www.chron.com/sports/justice...to-American-League-would-be-great-1685070.php

If the NL will lose the Astros, who will the AL lose to even out the 15-team league deal? I'd certainly miss the Astros going to lovely stadiums like AT&T Park and others.

By the way, we're now 51-99 on the season after losing in 12 innings at the Cubs. The worst season in Astros' history (other than one of our very first seasons) is still sadly ongoing. I freaking hope the Astros don't stink this bad EVER AGAIN!!!

Enjoy this weekend's games. Goodbye.

I was fairly impressed with the game myself. I can't wait for the playoffs again, I'd really like to seem them make a run for it and give Detroit something to lift it's spirits.

Yay! 100 losses for my sorry ass 2011 Astros! We lost 2-1 at the Cubs to go to 51-100.

At the start of the month, it sure looked like the September playoff picture would be a wasteland of as-good-as-clinched division leads, but Tampa sure is trying to claw its way back in. They still have about a 15% shot at best to win the wild card considering the sizable two-game deficit and the strength-of-schedule disparity (seven games against the Yankees whereas the Red Sox get seven against the Orioles), not to mention the fact that Boston is almost certainly a better team. But I would really, really like to see them play to at least a tie on the final day of the season.

There's a possibility for a three-way tie for the AL wild card. How awesome would that be?

Magic number for the D-Backs is 1. đź‘Ť

Would be awesome if we could clinch it tonight, but I'm actually hoping we lose tonight so that we can clinch it tomorrow with Kennedy on the mound. Oh, and I'll be attending that game too.

Dang, hopefully the Marlins win out the remainder of the season. If they can do that while everyone else in the NL East loses, (Except the Phillies-- they need to win.) the Marlins could have some hope for a wildcard spot. Or maybe not. Who knows. That huge losing streak really killed the season.

We had a few of thoughts leading up to today. Can't believe we did it!

(Except the Phillies-- they need to win.)

Unfortunately they haven't been very good at doing that lately.

12 games to go and we needed just four wins to have the best season in club history, a lousy .333 win percentage. Now it's just six games to go and we still need four wins.

Unfortunately they haven't been very good at doing that lately.

Me thinks they are just cruising until the Playoff games. No reason to injure a star player before then.

Good weekend for the Diamondbacks, completed a very nice sweep of the Giants including a 15-2 win on Saturday night while I was attending the game. đź‘Ť Hopefully Justin Upton gets better soon after being hit in the helmet with a fastball from Lincecum in Sunday's game. :ill:

I was watching ESPNEWS last night, when the NL playoff races were featured. In semi-typical Always Hate Houston fashion, they shown the 100-win Phillies... then shown my 100-loss Astros. We stilll won our game 5-4 in 10 innings, but I'm still damned sick of my fail-tastic 2011 Astros.

Elsewhere, I read from ESPN's Bottom Line that Ozzie Guillen (yeah- him) will reportedly be the new coach of the Marlins in a four-year deal. Ozzie to South Beach and to the National League! Brace yourself if this is true, Miami!

Ol' Jack is still the man. Should be fun with Ozzie right in the heart of Spanish Florida though.

One triple crown winner:

Ks, Ws, and ERA - Not to mention pretty much every sabermetric stat.

Matt Kemp posing the closest threat to a hitter's triple crown in something like 40 years and, though he won't get it, he should be a lock for the MVP. Kemp has put up historic numbers and lead the team to a winning record despite being 14 games below .500 after the All-Star break. If the Dodgers maintained their second-half record for an entire season they'd be 101-game winners.

Bodes well for next year, barring trouble from McCrook. I'm proud my team hasn't given up in the face of this fiasco. Let's just hope the judge sides with MLB at the October hearing and orders the sale of the team.

"What's the Word?" on PTI had Wilbon describe my Astros as sorry despite the fact we beat the Cardinals last night. Oh, like your Cubs are playoff contenders. We have the worst record this season, but there's a difference between sorry and pathetic. So shut the m:censored:f:censored: up, typical Houston-hating biased m:censored:f:censored: b:censored: ass s:censored:heads! I'm not any ESPN fanatic for a reason. Not even "liked" the Facebook fan page for ESPN. Just go back to b:censored:ing on the Red Sox and Yanks.

The 2011 Astros are a total disappointment, but please... spare us.

Chill out for a second, John. He's getting paid to entertain and it's easy to bash on last place. Those are the punches you have to be ready for when you root for a bad team - I know the feeling but the teams I like get more hate. More people want to hate the Dodgers, Notre Dame (lots of ND haters here, this is USC country), 49ers, and so on because they have a long history of success (and more recent track records of failure).

I'm also a fan of the LA Clippers - how do you think that feels? Easily the worst sports franchise of all time while living in the same building of one of the most successful franchises of all time.

Anyways, I understand your frustration but Wilbon does have a point and it's practically irrelevant as to whether his own team is having success or not. He's a Cubs fan - do you remember the last time they did anything?

Tonight is the final night of the regular season. And you know what? I'm actually going to watch this my Astros for the last time this season. They're still my team even though we have 100+ losses on the season. I think any fan of any losing team (for that season) should see them one last time. After all, they are still your team even if they aren't going to anybody's postseason.

Enjoy these final games of the regular season, and best of luck to your teams.

How 'bout that walk-off Grand Slam last night?

I actually missed it. After I listened to us go down 1-6 in the top of the 10th inning, I gave up and shut off the radio. Didn't learn that we had won until an hour later when my brother checked the MLB app on his phone. The Dodgers pretty much handed us the win with a few mistakes, but we'll take it. :D

How 'bout that walk-off Grand Slam last night?

I was watching it. That loss falls 100% on Blake Hawksworth and I believe (by the look on Mattingly's face) that was probably the last inning he'll ever throw in a Dodgers' uniform. No excuse for not hustling, no excuse for dicking around the strike zone. Javy Guerra didn't belong in that game. There were no runners on with 2 outs and Loney made a great play to get the 3rd out but Hawksworth wasn't covering 1st - commence unravelling. There's no excuse - even Vin Scully was admonishing him for it.

I was livid.

Never have I been more depressed as a sports fan than tonight. It almost seemed like the Astros fans just... gave up on the 2011 Astros. There was more cheering for other teams than with the Astros. My boys, meanwhile, fail to put up any God-forsaken fight as we failed for the 106th time this season, an 8-0 loss to the Cardinals. So that's how my Astros finish- 56-106.

I hope in the Astros assessment that they stop f:censored:ing around and start f:censored:ing winning. I'm disappointed as Hell in how this season has gone. This was an injustice of a season for a team that will celebrate its 50th season in 2012. Who the hell wants season tickets if the Astros put up a (to quote Bart Simpson) craptacular season for 2012 like they've done for just about 2011? Only true fans will want season tickets after the 2011 Astros put up the most bulls:censored: season ever. Even more bulls:censored: is how the Astros haven't made the playoffs since that 2005 run. Even then, they put up a hell of a lot more fight than the Astros of this season have. And most of the Astros who made that 2005 season happen are not with the Astros. They've moved on and have better chances of making magic happen with other teams while my sorry ass Astros are a sinking ship with hardly any chance of floating back to surface. If anything, get Ed Wade the hell out of Houston so we can rebuild. If it means getting rid of more people so we can stop being a doormat, so f:censored:ing be it. I'm just... I stopped caring for this season a long time ago, and tonight shown why. When all you can manage is two hits after being pounded 8-0, that's several things giving up. This is one of those wake-me-from-this-nightmare moments. I'd rather gouge my eyes out than see this terrible performance tonight. At least that would be more fun than seeing the Astros get pounded by the Cardinals.

But... I still love the Astros. I just hate the 2011 Astros. I hope s:censored:ty seasons like this NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!! Now I can focus more on the Texans. Unless... they fall apart like the Astros have done all season long. Rant over. Congratulations to whoever wins all the playoff series this season. I'm done. Only divine intervention can help my Astros become actual contenders again.

Epic finish to the season. Absolutely epic. The Cards and the Braves went into last night tied for the wildcard spot, while the Red Sox and the Rays did likewise. Now, through most of the season the Braves seemed to have a lock on the wildcard and the Sox had an eve bigger lock not to mention having spent a fair amount of time in first place.

Earlier this month the Braves had an 8 1/2 game lead for the wildcard, and the Sox a 9 game lead.

The Cards rather easily dispatched the Astros, as noted above. They're now guaranteed at least a one game playoff for the wildcard. The drama, however, was in the other three games.

The Phillies trailed the Braves through most of the evening, 3-2, and that's where it stood going into the ninth. The Red Sox likewise had a 3-2 lead over the Orioles going into the bottom of the ninth. And the Yankees had a 7-0(!) lead over the Rays going into the bottom of the eighth. Kimbrel and Papelbon coming in to close out their respective games; two of the best relievers in the majors. It's looking like a Braves-Cards one game playoff while Sox win the AL wildcard, right?

But no! Kimbrel blows the save, sending the game into extra innings. Phils score in the top of the thirteenth, and the Braves don't respond. Game over, season over for the Braves who held the wildcard spot since some time in May.

Meanwhile in Tampa, the Rays come up with six runs in the bottom of the eighth to draw within one, then tie it in the bottom of the ninth, forcing extra innings.

Meanwhile in Baltimore after a rain delay, the Red Sox go with John Papelbon into the bottom of the ninth; another of this year's great closers. Three outs and the Red Sox win it, right? Nope, Pap blows only his third save of the season (ending 31 for 34) and takes the loss for good measure, on Andino's single to left that scored Reimold from second beating Crawford's very weak throw to the plate for the walkoff win. And back down in Florida just four minutes later, Evan Longoria drills one just over the wall in the left field corner in the bottom of the 12th for the walkoff playoff berth clinching win.

As one of the TV announcers said, you couldn't make this stuff up.

The Phillies won 102 games, their best ever. This is only the third time in a club history going back into the 19th century that the Phils won 100 or more games (101 in 1976 and 1977). Meanwhile manager Charlie Manuel took his 646th win as the Phils' skipper, eclipsing Gene Mauch's 645-game club record.

Let the playoffs begin!
