Who angered the New York Mets? Are you kidding me? 17-0 beatdown hosting the Philadelphia Phillies. Wow! Helping the Mets win by two touchdowns (and two point-after-touchdowns) and a field goal was Robert Gsellman with the win. Jake Thompson was the loser for PHI.

Including Saturday night's aborted comeback, the Mets scored 25 unanswered runs against the Phillies.

The New York Mets and Miami Marlins are going to play in mere moments in Miami, but I am very moved by the emotions and the atmosphere with the loss of José Fernandez. All the Marlin players will wear the Fernandez jersey and also wear number 16 tonight. I would normally say something like this is a GTP inner-forum rivalry with Blitz24's Mets and Omnis' Marlins; but tonight takes on much greater significance and has a much deeper meaning overall, especially on the Miami side. After tonight for Miami, no one will ever wear #16 again.

Good luck to all of your teams as this regular season winds down.

That had to be the most touching tribute. Both Mets and Marlins stood for moment of silence, then both teams came out to embrace before the game. The embrace lasted around 5 minutes.

Reds/Cards game just went final. 15-2 good guys. I believe 4 Redlegs got at least 3 hits. Steve Selsky had his first career multi hit game...going 5-5.

This should be good news for the Mets and Giants. Hopefully the Reds can continue to play spoiler and keep the Cards out. 'Cause we all know if they sneak into that final spot, they'll go all the way, and I'll be mad. :grumpy:

The Houston Astros are basically going to need to win both of the remaining series to help their cause of returning to the playoffs, starting tonight with their series hosting their final home series of the 2016 season against Seattle. So far, so bad. It took 11 innings for Seattle to defeat my Houston Astros 4-3. I don't think the Astros want to make the playoffs this season the way they've been failing at this crucial part of the season. Drew Storen was SEA's winner, and Nick Vincent got the Save. A sad Houston locker room saw Luke Gregerson take the loss for HOU. It's almost must-win the remaining two games for the Astros to have a chance to make the postseason this season instead of having to settle for the 2017 season. So we go again Tuesday night.

Elsewhere...

I didn't see the game, but I can only sympathize with Miami on their loss of José Fernandez. This had to be a very emotional game. Miami won the game 7-3. The win for MIA went to Mike Dunn while Bartolo Colon took the loss for NYM.

Congratulations to Monday's other winners, including whomever made Cincinnati go Beast Mode at St. Louis.

Dee Gordon made me cry over my chicken wings tonight. One of the most beautiful moments in sports history.
I started tearing up when I saw it, too. Dee's emotion really drove it home. That will go probably down as one of the most important home runs in the MLB ever.

The Astros can't afford to lose too many more games. Tonight, we helped our cause by doubling up the Seattle Mariners 8-4. We basically need to win this series and the final series of the regular season while also getting help from other teams in the AL Wild Card race to have any hope of our season being extended. It was a win for Jandel Gustave for HOU. "King" Felix Hernandez was dethroned as he took the loss for SEA. One more go of this series, and this series ends tomorrow afternoon here in H-Town.

Congratulations to all other winners from Tuesday, including the Detroit Tigers showing they ain't never scared- just ask Cleveland getting hammered 12-0 in MoTown tonight.

Looks like the 2016 Houston Astros may have to settle for next season to return to the playoffs as they lost 12-4 to Seattle. We basically had to win this series and the final one to have the best hope of making the postseason this season. And unfortunately, we didn't do that after this series. A cool story, though, is Bill Brown calling his last game at home. Congratulations on 30 years of calling Houston Astros baseball, Bill Brown ("Brownie"). Even Vin Scully offered him some kind words apparently. This still doesn't take away from the fact our season is, for all intents and purposes, over. The winner for SEA was James Paxton. Doug Fister was HOU's loser. The Astros are now 83-76. May just be time to move on to the Texans and Rockets if you're a Houston sports fan.

Final series for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... the team that almost swept us in this home stand is where we'll be to end this season- at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Congratulations to all winners from Wednesday, and better luck next time for the losers from today/tonight.

Whew! The Reds hung on to a 2-1 run lead to beat the Cardinals tonight. Last game of the season between these two teams tomorrow. Hopefully we can win the series and deal that much needed blow to really knock them out of contention for the postseason. :mischievous:

Mets have clinched the top wild card berth following their 4th win in a row. Tomorrow could be ridiculous as there could be a lot of ties needed to be settled.
If San Francisco loses and St. Louis wins, they would have a 1 game play in on Monday (winner to face NYM).

As of right now, there could be a 4 way tie in the WildCard for the AL. If Baltimore loses, Toronto loses, Seattle wins and Detroit wins (and then wins their makeup game Monday), they would all be in a spot where each team would play Tuesday, the winners would play Thursday.

One interesting caveat. If Detroit loses tomorrow, but Boston wins, the Tigers may still have to play the makeup game.

The Houston Astros Baseball Club completed the 2016 season with an 84-78 record. We're not going to the postseason this season (I'm still not buying the 2017 World Series Champions prediction). Our final series was at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Friday match was an 8-1 win for LAA, a 3-0 victory on Saturday by HOU, and a 8-1 victory by LAA. The Astros failed at a crucial point of the season and could have put themselves in a better position had they won more games, especially in September. But instead... we're going to be WATCHING the playoffs rather than play in them.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... Spring Training 2017 and hopes for a better 2017. Maybe some soul searching. Maybe try to pick up more quality talent in the offseason. Maybe find ways to beat the Texas Rangers for a change. Maybe try to remember what made us postseason-bound in 2015 and apply those methods to 2017. Or maybe just don't do anything and rely on luck in having a better 2017 season.

Congratulations to all winners from Sunday. More congratulations if your team made the postseason. Better luck next time if your team lost, and better luck next season if your team missed the playoffs.

Very fitting end to the Reds' season, blowing a 1 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th inning. The season in a nutshell...:indiff:

At least the San Fran victory today kept the Cardinals out of the playoffs. :)

I can't believe that all the Tigers had to do was sweep the Braves, one of the worst team in baseball, and they couldn't do it. I'm really disappointed with how this season ended. At least the post-season should be somewhat interesting. I'm thinking it'll be the Red Sox and the Nationals for the World Series with the Sox taking it.

I'm frankly not shocked that they missed the playoffs at all since they've been terribly inconsistent and have also struggled at times when they should have been the superior team (like today). Granted, I really had my doubts after the 11-3 drubbing against Baltimore, but they at least didn't finish the season with a dumpster fire record like everyone thought they would midway through the season.

Vin Scully's legendary 67 year career came to an end today. It's going to be quite different to listen to Dodger broadcasts and not hear his voice.

Also, Robin Ventura won't return as the Chicago White Sox manager. Rick Renteria is reportedly his replacement.

The Braves really weren't as bad of a team as they are perceived to be, yes they were last in the NL East but once they started hitting they were a decent team. Since June 14 they went 50-47 and were 20-10 in their last 30 games. I also think that if Julio Teheran was on a better team he would be considered one of the better pitchers in baseball. He gad a 7-10 record this year, but he was top 10 in the NL in runs allowed, batting average against, and WHIP, and 11th in ERA all while being last in the majors in run support.

That being said today was very conflicting for me. On one hand I was glad to see my favorite team, the Braves finish the season on a high and say farewell to The Ted with a W, but I was also disappointed that it eliminated my 2nd favorite team, the Tigers from the playoffs.

Walt Weiss is out as the Colorado Rockies manager. He reportedly stepped down. Link here.

ESPN is also reporting that Arizona Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale and GM Dave Stewart have been fired. Link here.

So the 2016 regular season is over. 162-something games have been played. Only so few could make the playoffs out of the 30 teams. Here are the final standings:

! = playoff team

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE ---
AL EAST: Boston! (93-69), TOR! (89-73), BAL! (89-73), NYY (84-78), TB (68-94)

AL WEST: Texas! (95-67), SEA (86-76), HOU (84-78), LAA (74-88), OAK (69-93)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE ---
NL EAST: Washington! (95-67), NYM! (87-75), MIA (79-82), PHI (71-91), ATL (68-93)
NL CENTRAL: Chicago Cubs! (103-58), STL (86-76), PIT (78-83), MIL (73-89), CIN (68-94)

Tonight is the AL Wild Card game. GOOD NEWS: You're in the playoffs! BAD NEWS: Your playoff run could last a grand total of one day. The parity and unpredictability of baseball makes this one game extremely shaky. You could be a talented team and have your worst game and end up losing. You only get one shot- make the most of it.

Having said this, good luck to Baltimore and Toronto tonight with the AL Wild Card game played in Toronto. Also good luck to San Francisco and the New York Mets tomorrow night in the NL Wild Card game to be played at the Mets.

A fan just threw something onto the field in the Orioles/Blue Jays game while an O's oufielder was attempting to catch the ball. The outfielder still caught it, but Adam Jones got into an argument with Toronto fans because of the attempt to obstruct his teammate that caught the ball.

A walk-off three-run jack by Toronto sent Baltimore packing last night as Toronto won 5-3. This one couldn't be settled in nine innings, though; so 11 were needed to settle the 2016 AL Wild Card. They'll set it off against Texas in their ALDS match.

As of the time of this post, it is scoreless between San Francisco at the New York Mets, Bottom of the 3rd Inning of the 2016 NL Wild Card Game.

From last night, it was San Francisco shutting the door and the book on the New York Mets' 2016 season with a 3-0 blanking. The game was scoreless until the Giants decided to do their damage in the Top of the 9th in Flushing, New York. MadBum (Madison Bumgarner) was the winner for SF. The losing Mets pitcher was Jeurys Familia.

So out of this postseason so far are the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets.

Currently, the Blue Jays whacked the Texas Rangers 10-1 in their ALDS match. Cleveland currently leads Boston 4-2 in the Bottom of the 4th.

Who will be the 2016 Major League Baseball champions? It won't be the Boston Red Sox, as they were swept by the Cleveland Indians 3-0 in their Best-of-5 ALDS series. The Tribe won tonight with a 4-3 win. The winner of TOR/TEX will be the opponents for Cleveland in the ALCS.

Um.... If I'm not mistaken, the Blue Jays swept the Rangers.
