Shuffle Mixer Track Day
__________________________________________________________________

We'll use the car lists Traffic, Legends and Retro.
Previous week's podium decides the list used in each race.
Track vote will take place at event start. Then all 5 races
will be at the voted track!

See you there! :)

Series 24 will utilize Luxury, Classics and one or two other lists (TBD based on prize pick choices.) I'll be using snow's picks of Luxury at Nürburgring Type V and Classics at Bathurst in the first round.
Prize Picks!
While you're free to pick whatever, list choices other than Luxury, Classics or one or two others will be utilized in Series 25.
@Patrick8308 :
One (1) car list & track combo for a shuffle mixer race.

I'm back from vacation! :)
So I'm happy to be racing with you guys this week.

I'd be glad if my following Prize Pick could be used on Events 1 of Shuffle Mixer Series 24 this Wednesday:

Retro @ Trial Mountain

This would expand Series 24 by Retro (besides Luxury and Classics). 💡 Seems like a good mix in my opinion but of course final decisions are reserved to the host. ;)

Great races at one of my favorite tracks! Now if the weather would allow a scenario like this...

So much for my attempts to get into at least one of last week's events.... On Monday, there was an issue with getting the new, high-speed Internet set up, so that had to wait till Wednesday, exactly when you guys were racing. On Friday, just before trackday was about to start, I had to head out, and run some errands. Hopefully, this week will be better. Well, Friday at that time doesn't normally work for me, but it just happened to be open last week, or so I thought. This Wednesday, I should be free, providing nothing comes up.

Hopefully it works out, @terrordog1490 .

Next Round! Sorry for the late info, folks.

Series 24 -- Event 1
Wednesday, 17 June 2015

2:30 pm US EDT / 11:30 am US PDT / 7:30 pm BST / 8:30 pm CEST / 18:30 UTC

Race #1: 6 laps @ Monza (no chicane) // Jaguar XK Coupe Luxury '07 (Heavy Damage, 1 pit)
Race #2: 1 lap @ Nürburgring Type V // Luxury
Race #3: 4 laps @ Trial Mountain // Retro
Race #4: 7 laps @ Brands Hatch Indy '80s // Retro
Race #5: 3 laps @ Mount Panorama // Classics
Race #6: 3 laps @ Spa // Classics

Good choice @Patrick8308 .

For those who missed out, you can check out the action below. Btw, I noticed that in a few of today's races, I finished the race with a considerable amount of tire wear compared to the rest of you guys. I'm not sure if it was me, the cars, or both. I feel like I might be driving a bit more aggressively after GT Academy. I noticed, especially in this particular race, the way I took some of the corners was exactly how I did in GT Academy. Well, At least turn one of lap two looks pretty good, though I did hesitate a bit on the exit.

Great video @terrordog1490 ! 👍

There was plenty of track action in this race at Spa. As can be seen tacom08, @terrordog1490 and me had some close fighting for the lead throughout the race.

Awesome idea of @amarynceos before the race to pick cars 7-11 of Classics list. :) That made this breathtaking fight Miura vs "Yellowbird" vs GTO possible.

On lap 1 tacom's Miura was trying to break away badly directly next to me going into Eau Rouge so I lifted the steering and had to cut the corner a bit. I was chasing @terrordog1490, catched up and managed to pass at Bus Stop chicane. Sadly my line through following La Source (turn 1) was horrible and I had to let both the Yellowbird and the Miura pass again at the beginning of lap 2. :grumpy: Going into that long lefthander (Pouhon corner) we were extremely close together. I was on the inside and the bad angle made my GTO slide heavily. I was afraid to bump tacom but somehow he managed to avoid that. As @terrordog1490 was sliding aswell again in his "Yellow Beast" tacom could pass both of us and was able to gain a lead. On turn 1 of lap 3 I did a bumpy overtake on @terrordog1490 so I was slowing down to let him pass again. It seemed he wasn't aware of that and hit my rear twice instead of passing me on the right - clear misconception. :D I cutted La Source then and had to lift the throttle a bit to not take an advantage of that. Meanwhile @amarynceos was getting relatively close behind me due to all the action in front of him. I managed to pass @terrordog1490 again afterwards and was pretty surprised when a struggeling Miura appeared in front of me. I was able to avoid a big crash and was in the lead.

After watching the video I have to admit that I'm a bit disapointed. It seems I gave away the win because of my fairness. :odd:
I wasn't able to take Blanchimont corner clean and lifted the throttle to not take advantage. I let tacom and @terrordog1490 pass and tried to counter in the Bus Stop chicane which didn't work out. Now I have seen that both of them didn't take Blanchimont clean aswell I'm a little frustrated. :boggled:

Nevertheless it was hell of a fun race!

But we should not forget track etiquette even if our main stewart @watermelon punch isn't observing this at the moment. ;)

EDIT:
I watched a couple of more times. tacom was clean through Blanchimont on lap 3.

I actually noticed you slowing down for the contact concession, but when I went to pass you on the right, your car moved to the right with me. Then, I went to pass on the left, and you moved back over. After those two bumps, I finally managed to pass on the right. You can't exactly see it from the camera angle in the replay.

I tried so hard to make that corner clean, but the tire wear caught me off-guard, and the car got squirly. So, where I was cutting through the grass, I basically had no choice, b/c I was trying to straighten the car, and regain control of the rear. I was actually off the throttle at the time. Of course, then I had to turn again, and my speed still hadn't dropped enough to make it work, so I flew across into the grass on the outside. It may have looked like I was going fast, but that actually slowed me down quite a bit. So, I never even considered that to be a dirty overtake. I thought my win was quite miraculous at the time.

I have seen you in my rear view and it seemed you were heading to my left side so I wanted to move to the right. But that moment you hit me and I recognized you wanted to pass right. That's why I moved more left again but our thoughts seemed to collide that moment.

I have another opinion on that. If you read through the rules it's stated that you have to get back on track carefully and that you should not take an advantage of going off the track. If you go off the track to avoid a crash or if you'r being pushed out then there's no concession needed. But if you go off track due to car control failures or wrong line decision ( like I did in that specific turn and at the beginning in Eau Rouge) you need to slow down. And by slowing down is not the time meant when being off track actually. I felt like I would have taken an advantage of cutting the turn so I slowed down to let tacom get closer/pass and I think you should have behaved same way. Actually tacom would have deserved the win I think.

EDIT:
That's it on that. If more discussion needed we should follow @tarnheld advice to do it in PM.

I'm going to review that race, guys, don't worry. PM me next time any issues come up. 👍

Sorry for having to leave track day early, my brake issues were starting to try my patience! :irked:

@Patrick8308 , @terrordog1490, i hope you agree that in the last corners of a heated race it can get a little hectic!
Yes, especially with those classics. I really had my hands full the whole time.

I'm going to review that race, guys, don't worry.
Alright. I really hadn't thought this would be an issue. You can see I was trying to slow down before, during, and after the cut. If you feel that I was in violation of the rules after your review, please feel free to show me exactly what I did wrong, so we won't have this issue again.

A note on returning to track after an off:

In the event that you find yourself off track for whatever reason, it is imperative that your first priority should be a safe re-entry that does not interfere with your fellow competitors. This is especially important at a high speed section of the track such as the Blanchimont corner at Spa Francorchamps. If you are well away from other traffic, you should return to the racing surface as you see fit, always provided that no advantage is gained and you are in adherence with the rulebook, but in traffic, rejoining under control and without impeding the racing line is paramount, taking precedence over such factors as rejoining as close as possible to your exit point, et cetera.

Also, please remember in the future that any incidents, complaints, et cetera, should always be addressed in a PM to the race director (me) and should not be discussed in the thread.

I can't believe I went and did that. I was so focused on maintaining what little control I had, and making sure to re-enter close to where I went off that I hadn't even noticed that tacom08 was right there. I even thought I was re-entering off-line so that if someone was there, I wouldn't be in the way. Well, I won't get to race with you guys tomorrow. I'll be stuck at work. I gotta get used to road cars again. They're actually much more fun than race cars. GT Academy definitely made me faster. I could see, at a few points, where my line in the race matched up perfectly with my line in round 3, which is really amazing, considering how the Yellow Bird handles compared to the Zytek, as well as the difference between SM and RH tires, and the lack of downforce. I just wish I had properly accounted for the tire wear. It's definitely not an issue with our slower cars on CS tires, but the Classics will just shred them to pieces if you let them.

There have been some changes in my schedule this week, so I'll be able to make it this Friday, providing nothing else comes up. I'm gonna work hard to make sure I don't repeat that mistake. I've had people do that to me before, and it was extremely frustrating. I know there were no hard feelings, and I'm glad you guys are forgiving, but I'm still gonna kick myself over it.

Heh, we've all done things on track that in retrospect were a little :odd:. I know I have my fair share of boneheaded moves.

Indeed, the Classics really destroy their tyres quickly, along with Luxury and the Performance Coupés. I try to keep half an eye on the wear indicator after a couple of laps, I've been totally caught out before.

Too bad you can't make it tomorrow, hope to see you on Friday.

----

Here's the upcoming races. Note that I've scheduled Classics for one of the Parity races; I know the last time we did that it ended up pretty spread out, so if people think we should run a different list instead, that would be fine as well.

Also, regarding the Round 3 Parity events, I was toying with making them double points. Since we only do 3 instead of 6, that means the same amount of points would be available as if it were Round 1 or 2. Opinions?

Round 2 and 3 Schedule:

Race #4: 6 laps @ Silverstone International // Classics

Weekend Series Revival

I'm starting to get a little more organized and less laggardly in my dealings with the weekday round, so... would people be interested in joining in a series on the weekend as well? I was thinking of the following options:

(a) Revive the Sunday 10 am PDT round (1 pm US EDT / 6 pm BST / 7 pm CEST / 17:00 UTC)
(b) Sunday round at 18:30 UTC slot
(c) Saturday at same time as (a)
(d) Saturday at same time as (b)
(e) a later slot on either Saturday or Sunday, like 1pm PDT (4pm EDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST / 20:00 UTC) -- which would be past evening meal hours for the Europeans, and before the same for those in the Americas.

Thoughts?

Well, my schedule just returned to normal, so I'm gonna miss you guys on Friday as usual too. As for the weekend series, would a Saturday at 0000 UTC (Friday 8pm US EDT) be out of the question? I remember we used to have events around that time when watermelon was running them. It was easily the only time slot that worked well for me consistently. I'm guessing that was changed for our European friends.

I'm already running in an afternoon series (Parity Club) on Fridays, along with attending Track Day -- also, that slot would overlap with dinner, so unfortunately I couldn't host anything at that time. I'd be too worn out after 3-4 hours of racing, anyway.

That Friday evening slot only got dropped because WM couldn't run anything anymore due to real life interfering, and tarn and I were only up to taking over one thing apiece.

Room open!
