Massive Changes Coming to Gran Turismo 7 in Response to Fan Feedback

Yeah, okay Kaz... Action speaks louder than words and half promises. Also, I see this more of a "Alright, we **** up" approach rather than PD doing this out of the kindness of their heart. If that was the case, than they would remove the MTX, online only functionality, and other issues that hindered this game hard. Plus I don't consider this as "massive changes". That would be what I've JUST mentioned.

But as always, everyone and their mother are going to jump in glee thinking PD are doing this out of good faith. Not me though. What I WANT is for PD to feel more pressure to redeem themselves! They're not off the hook just yet. It's a looooong road ahead if they want most of the community to trust them again, especially after the controversy that PD (and Kaz) sparked up! I'm not kissing Kaz's ass like I would back in the GT5 days, and neither should anybody else. Nice attempt at damage control though Kaz, but sorry. I don't think this, and adding new content, isn't enough to get me playing GT7 again. Maybe? Who knows. They've already destroyed every last bit of trust I had in them, as well as ruining this beloved franchise that I will never forgive them for.

I hope this stops some of the haters from piling on this game.

Haters? To me the haters are the apologists lashing out at people voicing valid complaints. Not a vey constructive mentality.

GT Sport had so many monthly content updates, anyone who expected GT7 to be different is delusional. The game hasn't even been out for a month yet. I guess salty "gamers" have infiltrated this series as well. I will happily take 1m bonus credits and continue racing and enjoying the game.

… But it is different? Anyone who expected GT7 to have a terrible economy and to release with fewer events than GT Sport after its final content update is a psychic medium of some sort. It wasn’t really in the cards after Kaz recently said this during the GT7 State of Play:

“We think of it as our most complete GT to date”…

That's like your opinion if you think metacritic review bombing did nothing. Like really. C'mon dude, United Fan outrage is the sole reason that PD has changed their strategy and are saying they are going to give you such new content that we would all like. Without all these hardcore GT fans screaming, yelling, complaining, bashing and whining at PD we would not have gotten diddly squat in the next update. Look at the facts of what just happened with this news, enough with the backpedalling about "oh yeah nah PD was gonna give this , the fan outrage didnt get Kaz to make a statement, no Kazjust did it randomly". There is no reason to go backwards and change their strategy on the implementation of microtransactions to appease fans. The fans here did all the work of just talking about the game's faults honestly and with passion.
I was specifically talking about metacritic, I don't think review bombing affects purchase decisions for many people. I also said, if you cared to actually read a little further, that forums like GTplanet are what spurred the decision. A lot more than metacritic.

Also, I said the EXTRA RACES (read - not the economy changes for payouts on current races, not the ability to go over 20 million, and not the ability to sell cars) were coming our way anyway. I said this on this this site a bunch of times before this announcement, because PD said they would, and they have in the past with the last two main titles - 5 and 6. So there was plenty of evidence that was going to happen.

Only time will tell. I too agree that more could've been addressed but remember that 6 had MTX as well that was made completely redundant by Seasonal Events and 250% Daily logon bonuses. The same thing could eventually happen in 7 and I see it as a big possibility with cars that are going to be over 20M thanks to Hagerty.

It's my favorite franchise personally and of course I agree we should keep the pressure on but to give up all hope is just as bad as licking their boots and defending them. Sometimes you have to fight for what you love.

Well I'm not sure what to say about this except "good". While the server downtime was an annoyance, the game economy is simply predatory so I'm glad we're getting a rebalancing and hopefully some grander rewards in the form of gift cars for these new events. There is still a tremendous amount of credits to be spent on legendary cars so scripting still seems totally warranted honestly. None of this changes the fact that I'm enjoying the game as a whole and will surely enjoy more challenging events, endurance races, etc.

One key thing about keeping a playerbase happy is communication. Even if statements on upcoming content have to be vague because the content isn't compiled yet, give players something regularly to keep them satisfied. A lot of this backlash could've been avoided if expectations were properly set but ultimately I'm glad it happened because we've earned ourselves a much needed rebalancing.

These are all very welcome changes. I would like to see more, of course. But this looks to be as good a start as was feasible all things considered. I hold out hope that we will one day be able to create our own championships (with commensurate rewards to their in-game/curated equivalents). For now though, feeling rather optimistic for the future direction of the game.

The higher end races will double on average, so it's not the same payout reward. If we have varied events and get the cars in roughly half the time, isn't that what we wanted? If I know I could get a 20 million dollar car in somewhere around 8 hours, I'd say that's quite fair, and achieves a decent balance between difficult to get but still obtainable
The most expensive car in a game taking 8 hours to get via pure grinding is still not good enough. You people really have no idea how much time 8 hours is. Where I'm from, 8 hours is a full job day.

About 4 hours is the optimal balance. You need to remember that you are going to have about 10 cars costing ~20 million. That would already be 40 hours of gameplay, which is the same as a lot of AAA games with their story mode or even 100% completion.

The total cost of cars is, so far, ~400 million credits, and you are going to have more cars as DLC, and some of which are also likely going to cost tens of millions. And there's also tuning to take into consideration, which is also very expensive on this game.

If it's 8 hours of natural gameplay to get 20 million credits, that's fine. 8 hours of pure grinding the same race over again, is definitely not.

With that said, the current payouts being DOUBLED (which is what 100% is) is still not going to be nearly enough, in fact, it's going back to the beginning of the game before 1.07 which was already bad enough.

The WTC 800 in Le Mans lasts about 22-23 minutes for the average player. The current payout is 70.000, 105.000 with the clean bonus.
What's 140.000 or 210.000 credits for every 22-23 minutes going to do? Nothing. That's a measly 500.000 credits per hour, which is still useless.
In fact, those figures wouldn't even allow you to fully tune one of your JDM road cars or supercars. And this is a race with pit-stops and that takes a bit of time to complete.

I am more fearful of the Endurance races being put in the Missions menu. This will mean that you can only get the payout once.

Another thing I am fearing is the ability to sell cars. If they limit your sales to the cars that cost 1.000.000 like they did in GT5-GT6, then this is going to be a bad implementation.
Or nerf your re-sale value to absolute joke values (like 1/10 the car's value when new or worse).

I mean, guys, don't get your hopes high or start praising PD just for this announcement. The only thing you can be happy about all of this is that they actually heard us and are acting.

However, this is all still promises that we are yet to be seen being done.

And let's not forget that most of this stuff they are going to update in the future should've been on the game on day 1.

Also, someone here asked what the payout should be for a 24 hour (real time) race should be. Easily over 5 million credits (without clean race bonus). Which is still 1/4 of the most expensive car, but it's fine. GT4 had the same payout for their 24 hour races, but it did have B-Spec which you could finish in almost 3x less time and you wouldn't need to lift a finger.

Yes, but that's not the point. I'm not a Destiny player, yet his articles reach me. That's the point.

I didn't even know Tassi a D2 hardcore until you said something, I just read the occasional article he posts on whatever current BS is going on gaming.
Let me repeat myself. We don't want a game as a service like Bungie does them.

What PD did with GT7 is nothing compared to paid exclusives and macro transactions like Bungie does them.

I know GT6 had MTX, but I was never pressured to purchase any of its credits. Plus, if we had Daily Logins and Seasonal Events that had incredible payouts, I might've started playing GT7 again. But I really don't know with PD anymore. I know giving up on hope isn't the answer, but at this point, I really have no faith in them at all.

Yep, exactly what I meant. I despise grinding. I just want to have fun with the game and every 8 hours or so (provided I'm not spending hundreds of thousands on stuff In between every hour) be able to afford a high end car. I think your assessment of 4 hours grinding would work, for the sadists out there who are determined ;)

Coming from GT Sport's economy and game design, I think a lot of us thought that it would be very similar to Sport's end of life. A massive selection of events that pay decent as well as MTX pricing that is more reasonable and didn't hinder the game economy. But what was delivered was very different from that. Also very different from the State of Play's claim of being "most complete GT to date". We lack events for a large section of the cars, and with such a little amount of events it is hard to fully enjoy racing the variety of cars they've given us. I will forgive the payout reduction when we get more events that will, hopefully, payout better than 15k, and offer more variety.

I get you 100% And you have every right to have no faith after this mess. I'm of the (hopeful) theory that because GT7 was unfinished race content wise and little thought was given on how you'd obtain the end game cars is the reason it's like this currently. Of course that was no excuse to hide MTXs from reviewers or nerf payouts after launch.

However if they bring these events and they pay extremely well than much like 6 the MTXs will no longer be such a forced option like they are now. Right now I'm 50/50 on what I think based on what I've seen. My heart says they'll do me right but my brain says "you're a naive child" for thinking that.

All we can do is wait I suppose.

I'm being optimistic and hoping they're saying layouts to not confuse people with music 'tracks'
Not to burst the bubble, but I really think they refer to layouts as new variations of existing tracks. GT Sport had content updates that brought new layouts for existing locations, like Dragon Trail Gardens. Then the next month they added a proper new track location. GT7 may continue this pattern.

Yes. We've both been talking about metacritic. Did you know that?

I don't jive with your opinion in the previous post. You came off as dismissing the issue and then claiming here that I repeatedly didnt read you right. Well ok then.

I do find it interesting how you keep saying how you keep predicticting things and they keep hapening. As if. You don't routinely predict anything wrong. So did you predict that these races would dropin April because that's the plan all along? Or was that too out of your predictions? Pick a strawman and stick to dude

I understood his comment to say that Metacritic’s user scores won’t have a big impact on sales going forward, because most people can quickly see through the heat of the moment rage caused by just one annoying aspect of the game. At least that’s how I see it. I personally wouldn’t rule out that review bombing has influenced PD’s latest move, but it wasn’t the only thing that moved the mountain an inch or two.

It wouldn’t have been far-fetched to predict new content in April when PD released their “future updates preview” on March 4th. They probably wouldn’t have done that if new content was still several months away.

This is probably the first time PD have acted so swiftly to the backlash received so promptly. Granted that this mess by their own hand however two statements directly from Kaz in such a short period of time regarding issues, addressing them, rectifications and goodwill of sorts is a decent step in the right direction. Let's see if PD can keep up this type of communication going forwards.

I didn't "predict" anything. Just going by what's happened in the past GT games. That required little to no effort on my part. The fact that it was right was just common sense. Edit - they also announced it, I forgot to say that as @Nielsen just said

While I'm not one of the people "screaming, yelling, complaining, bashing, whining", I did say that I thought the economy needed fixing. I'm not a blind fanboy. But I still loved the game before this announcement, and would have enjoyed it for a long time. But if we get what PD said we get, that makes the game much more enjoyable.

It is possible that the price of the Ferrari 250 GTO will increase to more than 60m, omg.
Yeah I wonder if that car is the reason why they're doing this. I haven't heard a lot of complaints about 20 million cap before. A couple here and there but hardly enough to garner much attention to PD to cause them to change it.

Thanks to Hagerty. I despise that partnership so much it's not even funny. They literally have NOTHING to do with the game, slap their name on a dealership they didn't even help make and then ruin the prices of those cars inside said dealership with their real world valuations inside something that's supposed to be an escape from reality.

So, the rewards of some events were nerfed by more than 60% and now maybe they go up 100% from the nerf, I don't know but according to my calculations those events will continue to give less rewards than those that were given on day one.

But well, this is better than nothing.

Great news that we will be able to sell cars in the future.
It reads to me that the 100% buff is only for the events that unlock once you've seen the end credits. They are the 70-75K races that are not currently worth doing as you can earn more in the lower end events in the same timeframe. Putting them up only puts them on parity.

So with selling cars if you only have one of them and no duplicates what will happen to your collector level? Will it decrease since you no longer own the car? They should also bring back the feature to turn off mtx like you could in GTS

Last reported sale seems to be 70 million.....terrifying. The one good thing is that my XJ13 is 6-7 million less, as are some other cars that were previously 20 million, probably.

If you have a two of the same car and you bought both of them from a dealer and you 'discard' one of them your collector level stays the same. So with that in mind, my guess is it'll stay the same.

I don't think they did this is in good faith buut they more or less had no choice. This is strictly a PR move. If they were acting in good faith this would have happened before now. While I am glad they are doing this we have wait until April to see how this plays out.

This is false, they said that they'd increase it by 100%.

Why would they when the game's only been launched three weeks ago, chill out. In comparison Gran Turismo Sport had its first content update a month and two weeks after its launch, and that didn't bring many things. And this isn't a promise, it's pretty much confirmed that april will bring more cars and additional layouts in the game. Did you even read and understood the blog?
They said on average by 100%,not an increase of 100%.👍

It wouldn’t have been far-fetched to predict new content in April when PD released their “future updates preview” on March 4th. They probably wouldn’t have done that if new content was still several months away.

New content is bound to happen. Anyone knows that. Literally anyone. It would mean the death of GT7 if no new content would hit in updates. This isnt a unique opinion or prediction actually, Ive even referenced it would happen myself just like GT Sport's monthly free dlc model that was praised up and down compared to forza's offerings. Also GT Sport is a game with surprisingly a lot less microtransactions for being essentially a spinoff title than GT7. Surprising yes? It also has MORE events than GT7 and the pay is way more. For GT7 PD basically doubled the prices. How cunning. .. Need i reference the mclaren F1's GT7 exclusive price tag of only 18 million?

My other issue is Benny seems to have this sneaky habit of talking about a different point with this soft language instead of head on talking about and confronting the thing that's most clear for what it is. An example would how some people constantly defend PD and then claim that now we're getting content, it and microtransation fixes not due to the blacklash." I hate when people here defend PD for such nonsense.

MTX should not have been in GT7 to this degree, period. and now that we're getting some of it fixed (which is debateable how much if at all, as this is an ongoing battle against pure greed) is simply not due to sitting idle and praising PD like some have been content in shutting their critical thinking abilities off because, easy no stress. It's the complete opposite.

After so many steps back, this is definitely an improvement. Let's remember that right now this is just a statement from de company, nothing is yet concrete. These features should have been released from the start, and nothing was said about the always online complaints. Let's see what will happen next.

They are going in the right direction, this shows how relevant this community is, good job everyone!
