I'm not downplaying Kaz's "greatness". All I'm saying is, he's not the one behind this advertisement. It's certainly arranged by guys at SIE, and other than the product they're advertising, he has no connection with it.
There was a glum atmosphere at the SIE offices. Mr. Yamauchi had once again snubbed the team to take one of his most dedicated fans out to dinner.
"Doesn't he know that we're the ones doing all the work here?" complained Shinji. "All that guy ever does is post on a messageboard, and not even a Japanese one! We're here busting our humps putting together this amazing showpiece to advertise his game and what do we get? Nothing!"
Tama had been working there the longest, and he had seen young employees go through this before. The realisation that they wouldn't get recognition for their work hurt. And that all their hard work would be attributed to someone else always hit them hard.
He spoke quietly. "We do this because it's our job. We do it and we do it well. We recognise for ourselves the value of what we have done. We don't need others to tell us that what we do is good, because we have faith in ourselves."
"The things that Yamauchi does may have nothing to do with us. Don't be so arrogant as to think that his every action revolves around you, or that you understand why he does what he does. Be proud of your work, and don't diminish it with jealousy about the personal relationships of others."
Shinji sat in silence. It was a hard truth to bear. He had always looked up to Yamauchi. Everyone wants their idol to validate their hard work and look at them with love. Unfortunately, that was a privilege afforded to only a few.
