I recall seeing a video of PD recording the sounds of the Nissan GT-R, so it's strange how it still doesn't sound like the real car.

...
The Loctite also sounds the same as the Mobil 1 and Raybrig ones, and the ARTA sounds the same as the Castrol Mugen.

In regards to what they sound like, it seems like they just made the Mobile/Loctite/Raybrig sound like the '03 Takata Dome:

More or less, which sounds the same as it did before this update (and sounds the same basically as it has since GT4). No idea whether that's right or not for those three (it seems somewhat close to the NSX videos I've been able to find from the era), but at the very least the ARTA and the Castrol with that "baby-tyrannosaurus-from-The-Lost-World" exhaust from the Ferrari V8s is even more wrong than before.

All the NSXs should sound vaguely similar, and they should sound something like this:

Or this, if they're running a single-exit exhaust:

What were they recording it with? Did it look like one of these?

I see. I could only find a couple circa-2001 videos from the ARTA team, so thanks for those.

Well, I've just happened across this, from around 2001, and they sound suspiciously, although not quite, like the second of "my" examples, so either they rev much higher, or they ran a single exhaust briefly at that time. I previously thought they only ran the single exhaust on the 2009 (ARTA) car, which inspired Honda to do the same on the HSV-010.

So maybe that muddies things a bit. Anyway, the samples in the game are still a bit naff in comparison to the real thing(s).

The Gran Turismo franchise will no longer be a factor I will consider when I decide which next-gen console I'll buy. This sound mess-up was the last straw. Horrible, horrible job by PD once again. I hate those idiots. Aren't the Japanese supposed to be accurate and clever? Then what in the world explains all these random updates, stupid errors and unintelligible design choices game after game, update after update. Damn Kaz, where's the magic?

A little harsh there, but i get your point. The stupidity mainly lays with how driven they are to perfectionize certain aspects like the physics, only to neglect other aspects which are just as important (race format, AI and sounds)...

+ We've been crying for those changes since the first GT was released, only to fall into the ears of a deaf man.

GT6 will be the last chance i give them, if the same story continues with the negligence from their part, there's a good chance my money will go to Xbox and Forza for the next generation, as that one is almost at the level of GT regarding physics but has good racing and sounds.

Forza has great physics!I have played all pd games.
I played more then 5 years just with gt4.
Had many great moments and a great time.
And then...Gt5 was finaly released.I had so big hopes. The sounds are so annoying.
It takes away from the overal experience.
I love the weather, time changes, the camera angles, the car rooster is a dream for me...
but the **************** sounds from the ps1 era killed it for me.
When i heard forza 3 by a friend for a first time.I was instatly sold.Ok its over distorted in a couple cars. But the rawness and the power of the sounds takes that game to a whole another level. It looks nothing close to gt.No matter what fanboys say.And yeah..no weather no night driveing. And i cant say that i ever felt a car so myn like i had in gt.
But alone the sound make the game so immerse. And the physics are great to.Quite hard to be at the top.Tuning is great to.You feel every little change on the car.
I loved gt since i touched the original on ps1.
I still love it.And i still comme here every ****** day to see something positive. Some change that brings me back to the game. But it getting worse :(
I dont get my hopes up.I still want that old gt feel. When i couldnt put down the joy,and raced the 24 hour races with my dad, without sleeping.Buyd all the cars to have them and drive them all.And make them feel all myn.
I hope they will make some improvement and then i will come back gladly.
Until then.Im sold to forza.
Peace

What is going on at PDs sound department?

We have multiple cars that doesn't even sound like the right configuration.
PD chooses to change the sample of cars that managed to sound somewhat authentic!

I understand the need to use one sample for multiple cars given the amount of cars in the game, but there is no consitency whatsoever.

There are many good samples in the game, certainly enough to give each car a realistic sound, relative to configuration, displacement and aspiration.

When a 5 litre crossplane racing V8 changes from what was credible sample to something resembling a cross between a straight four and a flat plane V8 while my V12 McLaren F1 GTR still sounds like a Type 35 Bugatti supercharged straight 8, someone needs to be called into the office.

I can identify the configuration of 80 - 90 % of the engines i hear in real life.
Half the cars i have driven in GT5 makes me shake my head, and the percentage is INCREASING!

PD is obviously not ignoring the issue, seeing that we have had at least two updates to the sounds.

Is the sound department really this incompetent?

It's so frustrating, it makes me want to descend to name calling...

So they change the sound on a few cars and all of a sudden all hell breaks loose? How does that even work?

Simply because they managed to mess up more cars than they actually fixed. Sad, but true.

On a more positive note (and this could be only me, but anyways). Has anyone noticed that when you floor it (or increase the revs while using low throttle), the engine volume seems to increase more dramatically than it used to? :odd:

I was cruising a stock Mazda Autozam AZ-1 without getting the revs higher than 3000rpm, I kept the volume pretty high because the car seemed quiet. Slowed down a bit, shifted the car into 1st, then floored it. It actually scared the 🤬 out of me!

That has never happened before when playing GT5

The Japanese are clever and accurate, even perfectionists when it comes to working. The most techologically advanced country in the world. It's not a very far-off stereotype at least. Maybe the PD staff aren't those people.

Welcome to GTP  What I want to know is what type of sounds system does everybody has. I would like to know this dearly because it is an important aspect of the sounds.

And they take great pride on the fact, to call this stereotyping would be an insult to their culture.

From what I can hear the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evolution 2 Rally Car now has a new sound as well. Before it sounded like the farting sound plenty of cars can get, but now it gets a similar sound to the CT230R and the FTO STCs old sound...

EDIT: Ford RS200 Rally Car has gotten a sound change too. Previously a similar sound to the 205 above I think but now sounds kinda like the Wedssport Celica's new sound/C-West Razo Silvia of GT4.

Sound in particular has had an overhaul with 2.06, so what cars have been changed?

BMW M3 GTR
Chevrolet Camaro SS RM
Chevrolet Corvette C6 RM
Honda Civic Type R '97
Honda Integra Type R RM
Honda NSX Super GT500's
Lexus ISF Racing Concept
Lexus ISF RM
Lotus Elise RM
Mercedes CLK LM
Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car
Nissan Silvia RM
Saleen S7
Wedssport Celica

You're missing the Honda S800 RSC Race Car '68.

Nooo!!! What did they do to that?!

Yep, sad but true.
Sounds different now :\

The confirmation:
I agree they definately changed that one to a higher piched note, they also changed its start up sound. The RSC S800 used to sound just like the S800 road car.

I dont know if this is a more accurate sound or not, but I prefered the old one which had a unique raspyness.

Since I don't have this car, I'd like to post two videos of that car Both in idle and Revving a well as in action going through the gears. Maybe someone can tell me how close it is.

Must say that in real life, it seems really short.

Wait, I just tried the C6 with the racing exhaust and it still sounds like a 4 cylinder (the ZR1), the Z06 sounds like a V6 as always. Maybe purchasing the RM will make them sound different?}

And what?! They changed the ISF's sample? That thing sounded great, but in all honesty, if it's suppose to be a DTM car(or was), its V8 should sound more 4 cylinderish(DTM's are flatplanes, right?).

But there is still work to do for PD. I'm still waiting for my old Viper to have the same sample than either the stock exhaust of the SRT10 or the Sports exhaust of the ACR.

Others that need a fix that I mentioned before in another thread:

Aventador/Murcielago/Murcielago SV: Share the sample with the Gallardo.
For the Aventador, put semi-racing on it. Idle sounds alot like a V8 but when you are in high rpms. Oh my god, it sounds glorious.

Hello Everyone, I`m new here, I complained about the sound changes on ANOTHER forum, and I was either told it was non-existant or they haven`t driven in a while and would have to test.
But I think I`ve found out where the Real Gran Turismo drivers hang out...

I just compared that to the S800 with the racing exhaust. Then I compared it to the S800 RSC.

...

It was closer before.

That's PD for you!
Sad how this last update seems to have ruined more than it fixed :(
