As long as your processor is reasonable and you have no problem installing the card it should play fine, I manage to play GT4 easily on a monitor with a P4 / 2.0 and no lagg whatsoever, whereas my mate has an Athlon 1.3 and it is really jittery, both bought the same TV cards and they only cheap ones at £30 each 👍

Good luck :)

Noob question...

What do I need to transfer my lap times from my ps2 mem card to my pc? What brands seem to work best?

The simplist and most commonly available device is called a Max Drive, which is available usually at Best Buy stores or Video game stores like EB Games and such. There are also Sharkports / X-ports, but they have been discontinued and are probably going to be somewhat outdated for OLR evntually. AR Max is also available, but you have to have your own USB drive to use it, the Max Drive comes with one in the package.

Once I got through my ignorance of not 'ejecting' the USB drive, Action Replay Max has been quite easy when it comes to transferring files and getting them onto the computer.

Their documentation is pretty bad, but once you figure it out, it's fairly simple.

I'd say go for the Max Drive though.

Thanx mate, just got the card you suggested, picture quality is great!

no delay at all, unlike the adaptec one i got from dixons.

Only cost £25 plus £1.50 for a 3.5mm-2xrca cable!

WELL CHUFFED!

Mr P
load GT4 replay theatre and find the replay I was after/ memorize the thumbnail picture that goes with it /exit GT4 and remove from PS2 and boot up PS2 in browser mode with memory card in only/ find the picture you memorized before and transfer it to the empty memory card / Then booted up xport with new mem card in and found the file I was after and posted it 👎 .... talk about going the long way about something :yuck:

I also use that method to get the wanted replays transfered to the other memory card.

Next phase is to distinguish the files on the PC. I carefully note down the file size of the selected runs. This week I was able to download 3 files at one time. At the card they used 28, 30 and 32kb. On the PC they were 25, 27 and 29kb. Still very troublesome, but much faster than downloading them one at the time.

That's an idea!

was thinking more about file transfer, and forgot the simplest solution.
However what format are replay videos for verification accepted in, as the haupage card i have laying around only records in avi?

File transfer is more apropriate for weekly racing series proof. If you like you can transfer best lap (ghost) replays (or any other file that's on your PS2 memory card) to your PC with either a sharkport or an X-port. Search the forums for these words and you'll find loads of tips.

I have the X-port, it's a USB cable with a little adapter in the middle, and 2 disks with software (one for the PC, one for the PS2). It has it's quirks, but it will do the job.

Have fun.
Rolf

edit: I really think video's aren't really apreciated for verification, because of the size they tend to get. I think CFM will have to clean out his mailbox every 5 minutes if people started submitting AVI's (DivX is the smallest b.t.w.)

This new card will record in avi/mpeg/mpeg2 so file size should be quite small.
just need CFM to let me know which he would prefer.

Plus it can record in a resolution of as little as 352x258 ie vcd, still verifiable but small in size! That is, of course, assuming that i ever get quick enough to require verification!

Hey, i just got a sharkport and it says the the computer does not recognize the USB when i plug it into the computer. It says unknown device. I just realized the sharkport says 2002 Interact so is this the reason why it does not work???

Did you install the driver software for your PC? It should have come with 2 discs, 1 for your PS2 to run while doing the transfer, and 1 to install the drivers on your PC. With out the drivers, your PC won't know what's going on.

Edit: I've merged 2 different threads here since they are both about the same topic for the most part.

GTP doesn't really have the capacity to host videos, you'd have to find a place to host it, or use a website like yousendit.com or whatever it's called. Sometimes a member of the WRS will be nice and will help out if necessary also.:)

Yep thats what I use 👍 I record the replay in AVI format and then convert it with Dr Divx to less than 10mb in size :) as long as people have the divx codec installed they will have no problem viewing your hosted replay 👍

This is what I need to transfer lap times to PC? I already have a USB and a PC, just need something to get it there. Would this work?

Yup. That's a fine price for one too.

Go for it.

Happen to have a link to the proper codec?
I have a bunch of divx vids I can't watch. :dunce:

Can I ask a question here?

I have a MAxDrive and I've transferred a few saved ghosts from you guys to it using my PC (no problems there). I've thrown the PS2 disc into the PS and plugged the MaxDrive in ... and - using their menu system - successfully determined that the files are in place and even looked at the files on the PS2.

BUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, when I select a file (any file) and COPY it to another location (MD to MC, or MC to MD), the screen goes blurry (looks like a purposeful graphic effect) ... the music keeps playing ... but nothing happens. The load bubble appears ... it looks like it's meant to be doing something, but nothing happens ... it just sits there.

Does this file transfer lark take hours rather than minutes or something?

A slight followup on the lines of Kolyana's question.

Can we load eg NTSC replays onto PAL machines and view them?

This may be a silly question, but I've never been one to avoid those :sly:

I tried to load hot604boi's winning lap from week1, but although the file was uncrushed from the MaxDrive, it never appeared on the replay theatre list, but others I transferred at the same time worked ok.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Paul

Sadly, PAL replays can only be viewed on a PAL PS2, and NTSC replays on NTSC PS2s. There is no way to convert the files.:indiff:

As far as Kolyana's question, I'm clueless. It should start to transfer right away. Maybe check to make sure the little switch on the side of the Max Drive is in the 'unlocked' position and not in the 'locked' position (probably not the problem, but who knows). It sounds more like your PS2 is locking up, having a hard time reading the disc or something like that by the way you describe it.

Thanks CFM, that's not what I wanted to hear, but at least I'll not waste my time trying to get non-PAL replays to work.

Keep up the good work,

Thanks,

Paul

I just got a reply from the MaxDrive email support and will have to wait until tonight to try this:

<quote>
Please ensure that the switch on the side of your Maxdrive is in the unlocked position. Saves transferred form the PC will automatically be crushed, so uncrushing them is the appropriate action to transfer them to a memory card. If you still encounter this problem, try formatting your Maxdrive before transferring again. To format your Max Drive plug the device into your PC, open up the software and right click on the word “Max Drive”, then choose “Format Drive”.
</quote>

The drive is UNLOCKED (I told them that, but they chose not to read it), but I'm going to try the formatting option first and maybe do things through their software on my PC ... I initially opened it up as a regular window and drag'n'dropped save files onto it, but maybe you can't do that

Kolyana
I'd just like to say that that little utility freaking works like a charm ...

Yup, works for me too! Well, it does when I remember to uncrush the files to memory card instead of just moving them... still new to this MaxDrive stuff! :dunce:

This thread is now a merged thread regarding the topics of Max Drives, Game Saves, and making video files of GT laps. PLEASE post ALL similarly related discussion in this thread. Help keep the WRS forum tidy! Thanks, CFM:tup:

On a second note, big thanks to Cardude for "injecting" my save with a trillion dollars. No need to worry about running races over and over just to get cash. Now it's all about getting 100%.:)

I'm a newbie here as well to this AR Max Drive concepts and while I've just recently picked up, installed all the necessary software....I thought there was a way to be able to view the replay using either WinAmp or Mediaplayer?

Am I missing something here or is that process accomplished using something else?

Thanks!

you need to plug your ps2 into a capture card that is installed on your PC and "tape" it, thats how it works :)

Ahh..that's it eah?

Thanks for the heads up there Small_Fryz! Much appreciated!

I have a question....

If I buy the max drive from play asia.com, I know I can get it to upload pics and replays and such.

However, would any normal usb device that I can buy myself at a computer store do the same thing? Does anyone know of any models that they use and work well for transferring photos and replays?

a lot of models work for transfering pics, but none work for replays.

And the max drive doesnt work for pics , only replays.
