Go Karting as in something like Mario Kart??
What?!
I thought this was about racing cars and stunt tracks, what?!
But who cares as long as it doesn't make the gaming experience crap.
Maybe they should have made more premium models, maybe...

Have you been go-karting?. Arguably more racing than taking your road car for a track day. Which is what alot of the early part of GT is.

Yes. There are several real life test tracks examples that work like that (almost) and allow a large variety of layouts to allow driving in the most diverse conditions.

The problem I have with this, other than hordes of people coming out with dumb layouts, is that the GT series has always been about the driver and his cars in a semi-realistic setting (pseudo-realistic modifications, fixed tracks, real life or semi-realistic locations, etc). The ability to choose a scenery, and completely altering the ground and the track at user's wish kind of ruins the "magic" for me. It would be like putting in a "car creator" where you choose your engine, a generic body (with some extents of customization, but not related to any real car model), transmission, etc, à la Ridge Racer or similar games. This too would "break the game" for me, if you get what I mean.

*shrug* if you don't like someone's track, then don't download it. It says "create and share your own tracks." No where does it say that every track made will be forced upon via an update. I mean, with a track editor in GT, you'd have millions of tracks to choose from. I'm sure there would be one or two you'd like.

If we get a full-blown track editor I challenge all retired EPR players to (try to) recreate Löwenseering. It would be a curious twist to play that track in a Gran Turismo game.

PS - Just a reminder of one of the greatest fictional tracks ever. Ever since the track editor info surfaced I had this idea of re-creating this particular "skypath".

I'm not saying go karting is crap but weird in a game like gran turismo.

Most racing drivers come from karting. So it is relevant. I think it will be very fun since you can be brutal with them and if you have a wheel it should be great.

Actually I don't think I would enjoy it to much without a wheel.

I wonder with you guy's!!who cares about Track editor.....Gt5 should be a Racing-simulation game !!!it would be very stupid by PD losing time to implementing this crappy track editor and stunt tracks while they give us 800cars upscaled from gt4 without a cockpit view+crappy engine sound!!

How are you supposed to race if you dont have tracks?
The more tracks there is, the better! Cockpit is secondary at this point.
If i were to race against people on a unknown, totally fictive user-created track, i would most definitely use the Exterior Behind the car Cam! ;) (Using my Pad of course)

Cockpit view and driving using my Cockpit setup will be reserved for time trial, and just enjoying the experience between friends.

+1

I'm going to love this.

Then we can all go and test out karts to see if the physics is realistic! (For the teenagers/people who don't own a car on GT5)

Exactly.

To anyone who did not get excited about this potentially being true... check your pulse.

If we get a track editor, there will be endless fun. Just imagine the possibilities for point to point rallying.👍

When he says stunt arena he probably means Gymkhana or something similar. Why not?👍

Go karts needs to be a no brainer. This is where so many racing drivers started. It makes perfect sense and am so glad to hear that it is in. If nothing else, it will be a great addition to license tests and the new driving school. 👍

Weather confirmed, kinda saw this coming, but it is great to hear from another reliable source. I cannot get the image out of my head of driving down the Nurburgring at night and it starts raining. Oh man:dopey:

@Jordan
By the way, I thought the same thing when I saw this. I figured they moved up the release of some info for strategic reasons.

In the end I'm just glad to hear about anything else. Everyone needs to stop being a broken record. "It" has been discussed.:)

If anything, the track editor will let you create autocross tracks in a parking lot looking space. Not getting my hopes up with this game again.

GT5, the real Orange-Cone-Placing Simulator ! :dunce: :dunce:

For all of the doubeters, IT'S Shuhei Yoshida! Executive producer for Gran Turismo. He is in the know, and it's HIGHLY DOUBTFUL he would give out false information. He is not just some random SONY employee talking about GT5.

Yeah, because we've never been baffled or screwed over by poor translation when it comes to GT and PD.
No reason to get out hopes up again. This is GT5 we're talknig about.

I would love a full blown track editor to be true, but the logistics of it and the lack of mention or show up until now really makes me think we are setting ourselves up for another huge dissapointment with all this speculation as to what it could be. At this point in the game I am not even sure I trust the quotes from bigwigs anymore.

That should be the motto of GTP.

Track editor doesn't excite me really. If the tracks in ModNation are anything to go by, it'll just be a pile of tracks that people have spent 5 minutes making and not even bothered to drive around to make sure they're not full of cock ups or even fun to drive.

We will surely have tons of garbage to deal with but if LBP is anything to go by, we will see some ingenious tracks. Sure, they will be few, but dude... it's more awesome tracks to race on... and they may never stop coming.

Depending on how detailed this track editor is, the game will be epic just because of it. I can't get over how mind-blowing a track editor that allows you to model a track in 3D modeling programs like CAD or Maya would be, even though it's not gonna happen. We have the next best thing and that's incredible already.

I'm curious to see how this will play out. I think this is the most information we've gotten pre-release for GT yet. But then again it could be my imagination. I'm cautiously optimistic about the track editor and go-karts...stunt arenas don't fit in with the spirit of GT imo and are more suited for games like Flatout.

Third tale says that

for the first time ever skypaths will not be just solid and already known but that new skypaths will be built by birdtamers from the parts of existing skypaths.

I am glad to hear the track editor is in, but based on amar's prophecy I don't think we will have as much freedom as MNR. I would believe the rally stages in GT5 most likely random generated or user-created.

-> I think we should modify the track selection to this:

Think about this for a second. GT mode has been changed to GT Life correct? What if they either do away with the licenses and instead have you go through a series of kart races to get licensed. Or keep the licenses and still have you go through kart racing to progress on to bigger races. What if ALL the races are staged in more of a career like format. For example you start with kart racing move on to club racing, then to another series etc etc, see what I'm getting at? All the while having to compete and possibly finish the previous series before moving on to the next.

Who knows maybe Bathurst is already on the game. I kinda find it curious it isn't already honestly.
