I don't know if people are complaining so much about the news itself but rather the likeliehood of it living up to expectations. I mean lets face it, so far GT5 has managed to be pretty impressive at setting expectations and then startling you with how reality doesn't measure up.
Well, some people go out of their way to spread dissatisfaction too. Just sayin'. ;)

Heck, I hope it's all true. After all, karting is the very beginning of motorsports. Being able to make our own tracks, whether it's for the karts and/or cars, whether it's a track creator or a street/course linker, I'm fine with either. It's just one more cool feature to keep us playing for years.

Well, some of us... ;)

Dev, the constant pessimist. Don't we have an emo thread just for you?

This is great news. I love karting and plan on doing many kart tracks. One of my bored-at-work hoobies is doodling karting tracks. It gonna be great to actually drive some of my doodles. Every GT game has been better than the last so the higher the bar gets set by GT5, the better GT6 will be and so on and so forth. But there I go being the constant optimist again.

If you've followed GT5 for a longer period of time, there's no way you wouldn't go pessimistic on it.
Assuming the best possible result to be implemented in GT is only going to set you up for some major disappointments. Right now, it seems more reasonable to assume the worst and be positively suprised of you were wrong, if you're asking me.

Chuffed with the weather and karting news, weather moreso as I'm looking forward to tyre choice, pitstops and their associated effects on our setups to really start influencing races on another level. Adjusting brake bias etc in race for certain 'damp areas' anyone?

With regards the track editor I purely think (and I haven't a clue of course!)this relates to mix and matching different existing layouts of tracks, rather than moving bits about. If a track has three or four layouts in game you can choose which bits you use, providing they join up and make sense of course, maybe using all three. If it's more detailed than this then get me a nurse. And Kleenex. And Red Bull. In that order.

you mean like the new Silverstone Circuit?

As much as I hate to agree with this guy (Sometimes your posts are border-line troll if you don't mind me saying), he's right.

We shouldn't just accept this most recent news as solid fact. We should be sceptical about it, because we have not seen anything about it. I mean, day/night cycles were not confirmed until E3, because that is when we first saw them.

Weather is also still not confirmed to be in the final release. Every time KY has been asked in an interview, the answer has been a maybe.

Although I think to some extent, a lot of the members here, including myself, put PD on a pedestal of sorts, and expecting far too much of them. It really puts it into perspective how big this game really is.

That track editor is going to be awesome....I would love to mix elements LeSarthe with the nurburgring. I also hope there are sections of roads that are wide enough for 2 cars only. I would be awesome to re-create a Touge track. Or maybe even a Point A to Point B top speed battle on a section of highway, something among the lines of tokyo highway battle.. This will be an awesome addition to Gt5. wow the possibilities are endless..

I'm cautiously optimistic. After all, that's why I posted, "I hope it's all true." Because with so many things about this game, there are still huge question marks, which won't be answered completely until possibly TGS in September. And these are pretty big question marks. But, the source gives me hope that they're in. As with all things GT, we'll see. ;)

I am almost 100% sure the translation was mixed up with gran turismo and ModNation! Karting?? Track Editing? Hmmm? I will just ignore this for now...

Why is tagged as unconfirmed??

The track editor and the weather are great news, what excites me more is the track editor, i hope is a complex thing pretty much like Forza vinnyl editor or LBP editor were only the skillfull can use the potential and recreate great things, in this case real tracks.
That would be unlimited replay value.

Because it sounds too good to be true. It also sounds like maybe bad translation. It also sounds like they put GRAN TURISMO 5 when they should've written ModNation Racers.

I believed all of this at first as much as I believed that F1 would return to the United States in my home state of Texas. I must say... most, if not all, news bits here just made our smiles a little wider. The only thing I'm questionable of is that of stunt arenas. I mean, are we talking about (for lack of a better term) Saturday night at the short track? If that stunt arena thing is true, I wonder what that is going to entail.

Weather and karting are two interesting aspects to me. I am someone who believes that you can learn how to pilot some of the most amazing race cars by being in a go-kart. It's the same train of thought one fellow named Memo Gidley (you've probably heard of him) thought long ago in a Road and Track magazine. I'm not sure what karts COULD be in store, but I do find this very interesting. This can be anything from proper kart tracks to superkart racing on longer tracks (can you imagine a superkart race around Grand Valley or Suzuka?). If there are kart tracks, that may also open the door for drifting courses. I've had an old edition of Sport Compact Car magazine featuring drifting in Japan around a kart track.

Weather has always been an uncertainty. We've had things like snowy/icy roads and wet tracks, but never any weather conditions. I think what becomes a misconception is that weather mostly pertains to rain and snow. But really, weather can pertain to a LOT of things- warm and hot weather, cool and cold weather, fog, mist, windy days, sleet, freezing rain, dust storms... things like that. The thing people will say right away is that fog is so 1990s gaming. However, fog is definitely an issue. I remember seeing highlights of a (then) JGTC race around Fuji or Sugo in 2003 with a lot of fog around. You can do fog without making it seem like a PS1 game running on a PS3.

Nonetheless, quite the megaton announcement!

If is any of those things i propuse to bomb the person who make the mistake for tease us with something that good.

Yoshida decides what 1st party games get made and when they release. I'm prety sure he's worked in the states for a number of years as well. Plus this is on Playstation.com, I doubt any translation errors.

Wow, this piece of news is too good to be true! :D

That means we can get as many tracks as we'd like to, as long as there are people who are good at designing tracks or re-creating real life tracks that PD hasn't work on them yet. 👍 Looking forward to this game even more!
