Not even close. The SLS is a hideous design. It's an unharmonious blend of unrelated shapes with no unified language. The headlights and taillights in particular have nothing to do with each other and the various grille shapes in the front don't either.

While I'm not a fan of the SLC's taillights are are also randomely shaped relative to the rest of the design, kind of like the S-Class Coupe, the rest of the design is much more harmonious. The lower front and rear facias echo each other well. Overall the entire car is fluidly shaped in every way, unlike the SLS which has awkward blockly shapes here and there.

The SLC is clearly a product of Mercedes's new design language which is much improved over the last generation of cars which weren't even slightly pretty. Did they hire a new lead designer within the last few years?

Nope. SLS is better. One of the best looking cars of the last 20 years I'd even go as far as to say.

Both the SLS AMG and this AMG GT are beautiful. There is just more character to the SLS AMG, especially up front and on the sides. I always considered the rear of the SLS AMG to be its weakest element. That Edition 1 AMG GT would give the car substantial character to its design. Even if this car seems more Porsche-like than Mercedes-Benz like, I still think find it much better to look at than LaFerrari or the Veneno or something.

i saw the new one in real life at an event last week. It looked pretty sweet, but I still aren't feeling the back lights all the much

Less hideous than the SLS...

But...

The front is all wrong. It looks pretty good from the rear, but the front looks like its had part of it chopped off.

Won't they be about the same price though? One is a cruiser and one is sports, for sure, but I'm not sure which would classify as "higher up"

In the UK the GT will be in the £90-100k range, an SL63 nowadays starts from just over £112k. Plus the GT is targeting the 911 and V8 Vantage crowd, whilst the SL is aimed more at the DB9 and Bentley Continental.

-> I just want to know out of curiousity, what is the AMG GT's chassis code? Is it C190?
