Kojima and some of Koji pro folks tweeted yesterday that both GZ and PP are MGSV, this means one game and that it will be available for PS3, PS4, X360 and X1
That's good to know, now all I wanted to know is the release date 👍

lolol, what's the "PC race"?

Anyway, I'm doing what I did with MGS 4 and keeping myself in the dark when it comes to this next MGS. I don't want to see any trailers, no story details, screens, plot points, villains, settings, nothing. That way, I can just dive straight into the game for full absorption and mind****ery clear of assumption and specific anticipation.

Just needed to know whether it was multi-platform or not.

Hearing that it's not, and seeing that most Japanese games aren't either anymore, makes me wonder why there're Sony exclusives at all. Not to go off topic or anything, but does Naughty Dog get bags of money from Japan or something?

Naughty Dog is owned by Sony. Hence the exclusive games.

Ahhh, a quick Wikipedia trip could've solved that mystery. Thanks for letting me know.

I guess then MGS IV was exclusive to Sony out of the kindness of Kojima's heart.

I would assume that Sony has paid them money over the years for the franchise to remain exclusive. On top of that, I believe Kojima said that a 360 version of MGS4 would require too many discs?

Which begs the question how many discs this game will be on for 360. Two or three each for both chapters?

Being that the new Fox Engine seems so versatile, i'd say two at the most: One for Ground Zeroes and one for The Phantom Pain.

Knowing the size of your average Metal Gear game, and assuming they don't compress the sound into oblivion, my guess would be 3 per game, too.

The engine may be versatile but I believe most of the data for MGS4 was lossless un-compressed audio and the myriad of cut scenes. So I guess the 360 version will be cut down a lot by using lossy DD audio and lower quality cut scene videos. Either that or Kojima will finally make it more game than movie.

I just checked actually, MGS4 BR is 33.1GB, 27.1GB for the game itself. So I guess with the above compression they might get it on three DVDs total.

Ah, but I don't think MGS4 was on the Fox Engine (was it?). Also, we're not sure how compression (if there is any) is handled with this new engine and game. I'm not saying that it'll be one disc for the 360 (if it is, just wow), but i'm just not expecting it to be something over 2 or even 3 discs. Granted, it's true that lossless audio most likely will happen, I still feel two dual layered discs will suffice. I think.

Oh, that's a relief. I thought the graphics looked a little rough. I'm not being sarcastic either, with the recent advances in particle tech (like Lara Croft's TressFX hair in Tomb Raider, for instance) I thought it was odd that things like the horse's tail looked so static. Also some of the models had some rough edges that I wasn't expecting to see, but whatever, it could be 8-bit for all I care.

Just found this in the internet, release late this year could be possible, just look at this tweet:
Debut @VGA world premier teaser followed by tech presentation @GDC, trailer and actual game presentation @E3, online mode beta test in summer, exhibiting @Gamescom, game play available in multiple occasion in fall, and release yr end. This is the trend of game promotion in western market.

That isn't quite how MGSV went but that's rather cunning if what he's done there is actually reveal the schedule for MGS whilst masquerading it as an observation on gaming promotion in general.

I'm secretly hoping some of the elements of Peace Walker will return, I know a lot of people hated it but I really enjoyed it. Well, in any case, we'll get some sort of replay value and detailed game mechanics of some sort for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing what the multiplayer is like too, Peace Walker's was great. Co-op, anyway.

The camera (was it ever good? :P) and the cutscenes weren't that great, but the rest was more than decent.

I've heard a lot of people didn't like the management sim part, what with the collecting of enemies and the endless grind needed to get enough S-rank personnel to boost the various departments, but - apart from the grind - I liked it.

I wouldn't mind if they scrapped the emblem thing though, as in the ones that were awarded depending on your weapon usage levels and they encouraged you to unlock all of the emblems, but they never actually indicated what your weapon usage levels were so you had to keep track of it yourself (if you cared that much). To further complicate matters there were online-only emblems and the whole thing was a massive pain in the arse, I attempted to keep track of my kills and weapon use but gave up after one level. I'd gladly trade that system for MGS4's system where you just get them by fulfilling various (known) criteria.

The Fulton thing was great though, I really liked that you could use people you find in actual missions. Co-op was awesome too. I didn't mind the cutscenes either, you can appreciate that PSP hardware and UMD storage wasn't quite up to the standard required for proper cutscenes so they're forgiveable.

Just typing about it is making me want to play it again...

PW was a fantastic title, though the grinding did get boring to get those uber S-Rank soldiers and weaponry.

I have a feeling we'll be doing less of that Fulton kidnapping thing in MGS V. But Kaz did say we have to get more recruits to fight Cipher.

I hated all of that management stuff from PW, really hated it. I certainly hope it doesn't return.

PS the thread title could do with changing. What we're discussing now is really Metal Gear Solid V : The Phantom Pain.

I have a feeling this upcoming title will be a lot more field work than actual management.

Hope we can play as other soldiers besides Snake.

Sorry, what!? You haven't played any of the other Metal Gear titles, have you? Have you even seen the trailer?

Yeah I played all titles except the Acids and Portable Ops, and yes I've watched the trailer too, but I'm not following what you're getting at.
