Aside from time, I guess one of the biggest factors in achieving S-ranks is not getting into alert mode?
Go for perfect stealth if you can - undetected, with no kills. It's worth 10,000 points. Plus, try for some of the bonus objectives; they're worth 5,000 each (if they're the two named at the end). Avoid using reflex mode as well (though sometimes it's scripted, so it won't count); you can turn it off in the options menu. Headshots and tactical takedowns (CQC and headshots from outside a weapon's operating range) help, too.

Now that I think on it, getting more S-ranks might boost your chances of getting S-rank soldiers.

I'm still not finding that many S ranks, I might find maybe three or four per side op sortie I do (which usually means 2-3 side ops in one go), so levelling up my FOB has proven vital because I had a lot of A++ R&D guys sitting around, I think my FOB is at 3/4 for R&D now and maybe the same for Intel (because there are a few guns that require a high Intel level too) and I've met the requirements for almost all grade 6 weapons now. Grade 7 will take a little while longer, I reckon the grade 8 stuff will be difficult to research without doing a lot of FOB invasions.

You think I use Reflex Mode? I am hurt :(

Joking aside, I'm finally starting to find actual S rank soldiers. Got 3 today.

I've been thinking about my theory that S-ranking missiond produced more S-rank soldiers. I recommend trying the following missions, which are pretty easy for S-ranks (if you know where to go):

- "C2W"
- "Over the Fence"
- "Angel With Broken Wings"
- "Lingua Franca"
- "Footprints of Phantoms"
- "The White Mamba"
- "Aim True, Ye Vengeful"
- "To Know Too Much"

A high-level M2000-D tranquiliser rifle will work wonders. It's ridiculously overpowered, of course, and it chews through your supplies of Golden Crescent and Digitalis, but it will help a lot.

I'm pleased to read that, I was beginning to think the same thing. I just mopped up an Eliminate Heavy Infantry side ops that definitely had no S-ranked soldiers in before (I started it and didn't have time to complete it so switched the 'Box off).

I returned to it this evening and two of the three soldiers were S. Hope they liked balloon flight... :D

Thing is, I've been focusing almost exclusively on Side Ops, and I only have 4 missions completed with an S-Rank. So not sure why I'd suddenly start getting S-Rank soldiers now. I've been getting people boasting about being S-Rank for quite a while though.

I heard C2W is only possible to S-Rank if you haven't already destroyed the AA Radar?

What exactly are the benefits of the M2000 over the smaller bolt action tranq rifle?

That's why I think you need to pick up more S-ranks. Replay the missions and aim for an S-rank; it might help.

Possibly. I destroyed it as part of C2W, so I can't say for sure.

It's much more stable without pentezamin, has a very durable silencer at higher levels, and the scope has a better reticle and comes with variable zoom, making it easier to score headshots against soldiers with helmets.

I'll give it a shot. Cheers for the advice.

So are you going to continue playing the game now that you have the Platinum?

I'm going to take a break for a while. The only thing I'm really missing is a handful of codenames and emblems for neutralising enemies with various weapon types. I've also got my eye on Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, and there's a lot of stuff that I need to do for work. So I'll probably revisit it some time in the new year and go for a total subsistence play-through - minimal development, all weapons and equipment OSP. But I will definitely be holding onto the game; the only reason I traded in my HD remaster of Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater was because I upgraded to the XOne.

That actually leads to my next question; will any of the XB360 MGS titles be backwardly-compatible?
I have no idea. But if you do have an X360, see if you can get your hands on the HD remaster. They might be much more linear than TPP, but I do miss things like needing to manage your battery life and carrying minesweepers and the way your loadout has weight that affects your movement speed. Too many secondary functions got condensed into buddies.

Plus, TPP is missing a lot of indoor environments. There are some, like Lamar Khaate and the Lufwa Valley, but they're very simple. Especially compared to the likes of the Granin Design Bureau in Snake Eater.

One of the reasons I like Mother Base is that it reminds me of MGS2 so much, minus the seagulls. And yes, even in Subsistence TPP you don't get that bare-bones feel to the missions. And, dare I say it, popping out of cover and going full-mentalist seems a lot easier in TPP until Extreme missions.

That's the thing about the M2000D - it's massively overpowered.

I like going in with the Burkov tranquiliser pistol and a custom G44MG modified to .308 calibre. No weapon on your back. You get about ninety rounds in total.

Patch 1.06 is out, mostly FOB/Online changes from what I can see and a couple of new guns. Online resources can now be sold offline (useful for GMP I guess).

There's one thing not in the patch notes that's being reported by gamers.... serious spoiler for those trying to get to the end of the game with no hints...

After losing Quiet there was, until now, no way to get her back. This has apparently changed.[/quote]

I'm not a fan of that.

A huge part of the game is about legacies. Where the characters were once fighting for an ideology, those ideas have been corrupted - for example, Miller has to watch on as the idea of MSF gets appropriated by others and reduced to a business venture - and now they are fighting to preserve their place in history. Quiet is the only character who breaks that cycle. She carries out a heart-breaking sacrifice, and is promptly forgotten by history. There is no evidence of her existence on Mother Base except in the player's memory. She is the only character who gets any closure, and in making her choice becomes the only character who truly fights for what she believes in.

Bringing her back undoes a lot of that.

So with the new update came a whole raft of Level 6 and 7 Security tech for your FOBs. The one that will prove to be a real pain is going to be the new Anti-Theft Devices. As soon as they get tripped either by fultoning a shipping container or by stepping too close, since it adds a field sensor, two dudes will spawn in and will immeadiately see you.

It's a pain, especially since they added a multiplyer to resources gained from completing a FOB misson for a while. The idea of being able to getting up to 3500 Purpurpea Digitalis from a Medical Platform mission is way too temping to do once you see how many Digitalis the later Tranq guns use. And currently I'm 0/3 on that task.

The few I've done have been by sneaking without taking the guards on. Training on your own FOB helps to figure out where the different core entrances are on each platform, as I learnt the hard way.

Also; what difference does having a nuke make to the FOBs, can I deploy one against a player who's attacked, what is it for? :D

It acts as a deterrent against other players attacking you. Only players with "Hero" status - 200,000 or more heroism points - will be able to attack you. If you successfully infiltrate a nuclear-armed FOB, you can steal their warhead and you will get better rewards. It's also good for two achievements, and turns you into Demon Snake.

Wait so the new WU carbine has an integrated suppressor? That's super OP for an underbarrel weapon but I assume the development and deployment costs are ridiculous to make up for it. You could even take it as an underbarrel on both primary weapons and take the standalone too... If you were mad.

I prefer the Burkov, myself. It's easier to aim while moving.

Ever since I got good at 30-50m headshots with the WU I tend to take that instead, but the Burkov is undeniably better when you're spotted but still want to kidnap a few people... But the Uragan is better still, but is entirely useless for stealth. I would like to try the WU CB but at the rate I'm playing now I won't get it until 2017...

Got my MGS V updated to 1.06 just now, and my fuel resources says : 4294941696 :P when opened where it says amount owned, the list says -25600, but I can't sell it anyway, it stuck at 1 ( can't change the value to sell )

While my GMP - 952270, in the red :grumpy: Don't know if it's a bug or just an error

Earlier today I completed the total stealth version of Over The Fence with 19 kills, wearing the battle dress and using the Serval, Hail and Macht SMG, and I got an S rank. Granted I was spotted many, many times, but still. Annoyingly ShadowPlay split the video into two parts and I don't have the technology to merge them, frankly nothing all that interesting happened anyway, I just like that the game is that versatile.

Any particular reason why you feel that way?

Because it feels entirely random. Some mission I can get sent all the way back to the very start, where as others will respawn me back before the maor outpost/base that I died at. It's not consistant.

I think half the time I stop playing this game, I'm left frustrated.

You should be aiming to complete every mission without requiring a checkpoint.

Now that's frustrating.

But satisfying when you achieve......

:irked:👍
