Microsoft drops all DRM.

''After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again.''

But what if I have no internet in the first place?

Xbox fans must be the most forgiving people on this planet. Do they really believe Microsoft give a slightest crap about the customers? If they really do, why would they bring this pile of dog poop in the first place, and behave like 12 years old, saying stuff like "Don't Internet? Stick with the 360."

No, they did this only to save their own skin.

You can say MS backed off because they care about their customers (heard it loud and clear and responded) or back-tracked because they don't care (save own skin). It's all on how you want to spin it or where you are coming from (allegiance). Many are going to believe what they "want" to believe as no one here has been in those corporate board meetings at MS to know for sure what the motivation was.

I get that but if they've changed it before the product has even gone on sale I don't see how its too late. What MS did wasn't THAT outrageous, the console gaming world just wasn't ready for it yet. It might not even be the next gen after this upcoming one but some time all consoles will do what they did i'm sure.

I think part of the problem is that consoles are an area where we're not used to seeing this level of restriction. Microsoft is the gatekeeper for everything on Xbox One. Sure, most of my PC games are Steam purchases, but I still have the option to purchase from Origin, buy Humble Indie Bundles, or even buy directly from the developer.

MS should have at least concentrated on the fans instead of rushing production for money AND 5$ a month. Bill being supercalifragilisticexpialidocious rich would be satisfied on how much the cow has been milked and would soon buy a Bugatti Veyron for every person in the world allowed to drive legally.

You are mixing MS and Bill Gates, Bill isn't involved with day to day MS decisions. Actually:

"According to Reuters, the Microsoft founder has given away more than a third of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, which focuses on global health and development and U.S. education."

I think the Gates foundation has given away something like $28 "billion". Give credit where credit is due. Yes MS is a powerfull and influential company, but as any company they are in business to make profit. Most companies walk a fine line between decisions on profit (share holders) and pleasing their end customers. It's not a black and white issue.

You managed to post this so I'm sure you'll be ok ;)

Just found the perfect music to thank Microsoft everything they done.
I'm glad that drop all DRM.

Once again Thanks Microsoft, XBOX ONE will be a success.

I found the perfect song that fits fanboyism over video game consoles: El Chombo - Chacarron Macarron.

How many internets do I win now?

So is spynect still mandatory? No DRM is not enough. Don't wanna be spied by a creepy box.

There is so much misinformation about this its unbelievable. Almost makes you think people are doing it on purpose ;)

Xbox One's Kinect camera and microphone will not record or upload your conversations, Microsoft says in a newly published document designed to address serious privacy concerns on the console that requires the camera accessory to be plugged in.

"You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear," Microsoft says. "By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. When Xbox One is on and you're simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded."

Microsoft adds that Xbox One owners are "in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused."

Users will be instructed to set "key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used" during set up, Microsoft says.

"If you don't want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. When the system is off, it's only listening for the single voice command — 'Xbox On,' and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you'll need to turn it back on for these experiences."

Microsoft says user data, including facial expressions, photos and videos, "will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission." The company also confirmed that Xbox One owners won't be required to use Kinect gestures to operate the system. A controller, remote controls and "smart devices" will also be supported.

Spynect isn't still mandatory, because you don't have to connect the system to the internet any longer.

As you can see it never has been mandatory to have it on.

So then only one question remains. Its a pretty simple one to. Why cant it be unplugged?

As I see it Microsoft really want it to be a success and devs are more likely to develop games and apps that use it if they know every X1 will have one connected. By making sure everyone has one they can ensure it has the best possible chance of success.

Think how much more effort devs would put into steering wheel integration in racing games if they knew every single console had to have a wheel connected to it?

Well, about "Microsoft really want it to be a success" they need to acknowledge some people like me will NOT buy an Xbox One only because of that. I just don't freakin want it, just NO.

Call me paranoid, but I just could not trust what MS says no matter how many times they may repeat it or anyone in support of them tries to reassure others. They were a big help of PRISM after all, they've lied before and they will lie again.

Even if it was perfectly honest, I just personally don't like the idea of a camera in a room, seeing webcams on friend's computers just makes me feel uncomfortable being in that room. I'm always willing to bet that hackers will be hard at work to see if they can sneak past MS's security and see what they can do (which when looking at Windows and it's plethora of viruses, does not provide a lot of confidence).

They must be fairly confident that they can be successful without people like you. And considering the X1 is back above the PS4 on the Amazon pre order chart since the no DRM announcement it's looking like they will be.

But why do they need to hand walk this product to devs and consumers? If it was this great tech that was a real game changer it wouldnt need to to forced on the consumer or the developers. They would pick it up on thier own and run with it. MS are showing a real desire to put one in every home despite the fact that the market has no intrest in the tech. Motion has been out quite a while now and thier is almost zero intrest in it.

It's only an opinion dude. And certainly more chance of being correct than them wanting to spy on people.

And considering the X1 is back above the PS4 on the Amazon pre order chart

It is? I thought I had been reading that the PS4 is still the console of choice, but because it's listed as several bundles, that's why the Xbox may show as having more. If the PS4 only had one purchaseable bundle on thier site, then it would have shown it's true position on their best selling chart.

I'm open to being corrected.

Just reporting what I have read.

http://www.t3.com/news/xbox-one-returns-to-top-of-amazon-pre-order-charts

But hey if you need PS4 to be more popular that's cool. I'll be buying both so makes no odds to me. Just sick of seeing all the uninformed smack talk that has infected the interwebz recently.

Completely unnecessary dig at nothing.

That's exactly what I just did. Post E3, I can't find anything, anywhere that says the Xbox pre-orders are outselling PS4 pre-orders. As I said, the PS4 come in multiple choice bundles, the Xbox does not. You need to add the different PS4 bundles together, and then make a comparison on numbers.

Where do you get those statistics??

Bestseller Lists:
Amazon.de:
1. Ps4
.... 19. Xboxone

Amazon.uk:
4.PS4
... 63. Xboxone

Yeah sure, it's rocking :ouch:

And console not spying on us:
This gen already heavily spied on us. Just put a logger in your internet connection, and you will see that both Xbox and PS phone home quite often and quite an amount.
I don't want to know what happens when mic and cam are connected. Whatever the company says.
You know cigarettes are not lethal. The company said so, so it must be true....
