Congratulations Parnelli.
Light up that cigar.
PAL going back on shelf...:)
I want that guide. I WILL need that guide.

Same here. Nothing is better than the story behind the victory.
Isn't it a weird feeling after you won? My win was so close that I was in shock that I even pulled it off. When I finally came to my senses I felt like I had just achieved 100% in the game . . . Nothing in the game was sweeter than that.

Congratulations Parnelli Bone!!!!!

So what was the margin of victory? (The image is pretty small and I cant read it.)

Uh...not exactly a cigar. :nervous: More like a weed that has been harvested & dried to perfection :D :ill::eek: :lol:

Oh yes it is. On that final straight as i passed the 300SL, i stood bolt-upright and saluted! Then i screamed! And then i found the nearest thing i could throw around, which happened to be a plastic jug! I was like: YES i am done!

My win was so close that I was in shock that I even pulled it off. When I finally came to my senses I felt like I had just achieved 100% in the game . . . Nothing in the game was sweeter than that.

Well, i had a very strong early run. It wasn't sloppy ....even as i cut the grass in that first area (sorry, dont know the names yet) it looked intentional...

And then i was like a low +1:49:000-ish for the first marker.

From then on, i had low times (but not the lowest i could possibly make). After the second grass-cut, i stopped paying attention to the split times....i figure that's just going to psychologically screw with me if i'm doing well.

But i passed the first car going up the hill to Karussell, and that was good.

2nd car i passed, i forget exactly where, but it was an easy pass--on a straight. :)

And then there's that area where theres's a hard right...with lots of sand on the left. I screwed up here! What happened was, i just can't find a good braking point for this area (since there's a jump involved with the braking point) so i over-compensated and steered in too hard and too early....and found myself running into the grass on the right-hand side and even tapping the wall! No penalty, tho! :scared:

I passed the 190E very early down the looong straight...so i knew i was still doing good. I decided to check the split time finally:

+14.xxx!!!! Cool!

And passed the 2nd-place car (whatever it is) before needing to really start braking down from 180-ish mph...so then i really knew i had it.

Finally, as i made the final grass-cut (jeez it looks so professional....i got it JUST RIGHT with a dual-slice thru 2 sets of grass and no wall contact!!!) and the Gull-wing sat just before me, i nailed it and stood out of my seat! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa!!!!!!!!

aww man this mission is so hard. It took me a little under an hour to complete the first 33 missions but this one seems impossible.
No cigar for me

Definitely read the thread if you haven't already. At least take a glance through it for advice and videos; they'll be very helpful.

And I have to assume you meant it took under an hour to complete each of the first 33, because I'm fairly sure that even if you won each mission the first time (and that would be quite a feat in itself), the elapsed time of all the missions is quite a bit more than an hour.

In case you aren't grass-cutting (yet), i recommend it. Dont' feel bad, like you're cheating or something...i started M34 the "right" way, but after 2 days of +8 seconds behind, one smashed dual-shock, an unidentified creak in my brand new controller (from twisting it between both hands) and deadened sensation in my thumbs, i swallowed my pride and started grass-cutting in the 3 areas most others have done it.

No wall-riding tho...i dont see how that is even possible without a penalty or raised lap time.

Remember: you can do it if others have. 👍 You've come this far, you will get it. Lots of practice. Use the chalk on the road (or sometimes even a shadow from a tree) as braking points, because some of the brake-points are otherwise too vague. Try not to get mad. Just keep trying to improve. You'll get it.

I DID IT!!!!!!

Whoo, THX to paragon for posting that vid... I did almost exactly what he did but I narly retryed when I saw at the kink in the end straight that I was farther behind but I flew across the grass on the left perfectly onto the ending esses cut the grass and was almost side by side the old merc begining the small straight... whoo!...

I got picture but in my excitment to see my shiny new R89C I forgot to save the REPLAY GAH...:dunce:

got a pic though...

And parnelli you can ride the wall at the first Karussel, it's ify though sometimes I got a penalty other times I did not...

I still wonder is this even possible clean? PD must of not tested it if so...

Yup, I did it with no more than two wheels on grass and no barrier or AI contacts. It took a couple hours , but it can be done, and it doesn't need to be perfect. Yes, I'm NTSC. :) Maybe I can take a video of it.

Nice job. 👍

ill try although i dont know how itll make a difference since i seem to pass the 1st car right before the long straight:ouch:

ohh ya sorry, when i first started doing the missions, it was 11 pm. when i turned off my ps3 it was like 2 am. so i w\am sorry, it took me more than an hour to do all the missions.👍👍

Congrats on beating 34!!! I used that video to see where the most reasonable areas to cut through were. You definitely beat it by a larger margin than I did.

Well done on cheating. Go you!

Clean, NTSC run

Kudo's to who ever made that run. I had a hard time adjusting to how the car was set up.

Well, I wouldn't call it cheating. How about . . . making use of every available, drivable surface to complete the mission. :D

Besides its really PD's fault. They increased the time making it considerably harder to beat in the NTSC version. I'm sure that if the time hadn't been changed, we could have beat it cleanly.

It just takes time to get use to the car and track together. (grass cutting or clean lap) That is half the battle right there. Go out and buy the car, then run the first race in Schwarzwald Liga B for practice. It is a good race to run for practice against other cars, and if you win you get a few more credits.

.

Actually, they decreased the time for PAL gamers. :grumpy:

Oh, I thought that they increased the waiting time. (That's what I was refering to.)

That's why i didnt feel so bad cheating (finally) a bit on that one. :guilty: I prefer my sanity. And full sensation in my thumbs. And my brand-new dual-shock not becoming another casualty. :)

Congratulations!

I found the skyline mission to be the hardest one to beat.

Ever tried mission 35? ( not actual mission but really hard 1 )

Mission #35

I went thru most of this thread but didn't find an answer so.....

I bought the SLR & put on a set of hard sport tires so I could practice & learn the track, the problem is the car in the mission handles nothing like my practice car.
The stock car is no race car but the one in the mission is a Fu(%!N pig!
I'll practice for a couple of hours & go try the mission & I'm all over the place.
What settings do I need to put on my practice car to make it handle as poorly as the one in the mission??
I have the same exact question! Help!

That's hard to say. Apparently the mission car is on sport medium tires with TCS=2 and no ASM, and I believe that, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that PD has adjusted something in the suspension, LSD, or whatever, that makes the car handle worse. It's possible also that when you try to race the mission as opposed to practice in free run, you just drive too hard, past the capabilities of a 600 HP FR tank on sports tires. But if there are adjustments other than to the TCS, I don't know them, and I don't think anyone else does, either.

Got gold in S16 last night; so tonight I start working on Mission 34. With the advice from here I'm hopeful to make it.:nervous:

Just buy an SLR McLaren, turn ASM off, turn TCS on 2, but leave the rest as is (no additional parts are needed. S2 medium tires are good). Do lots of laps with ghost ON till you're able to make it around the track in about 7:04-7:07 consistently, and keep trying the mission. You'll notice the mission car drives sliglty different from the SLR you bought, but this should be okay.

It took me about 2 weeks till i passed 34. But during that 2 weeks, i took breaks many times to keep from getting frustrated. EVentually, you may find you'll need to cheat a little. don't let this bother you...PD made the PAL version of GT4/Mission 34 easier than the NTSC version. And since PAL comes after NTSC, i figured they did this because even PD thought they had the bar raised too high. There are 3 key areas where you can drive across the grass (read this thread to find out where). Even after learning how to do these areas, you still might find you'll barely pass mission 34. It's that hard! :ouch:

I was gonna write a guide to mission 34, but at the moment i've got so many other projects. I'll get it done someday, tho.

Thanks for the advice, Parnelli Bone. My plan indeed is to buy the SLR and practice with it. Don't ask me where I have the info from (simply don't remember) but I heard that I should even leave the aids unchanged. Can you confirm your settings of ASM off and TCS to 2 (stupid question, I know, but I'm curious)?
I expect to spend some time on this, I play for about an hour every night. But I don't mind, the ring is actually fun to drive.

If you read thru this thread, you'll find opinion varies about how the aids should be set. Some people think TCS is set at "1", and a few think it's set at default (5, i think). But the combined opinion overall is TCS set at about 2, ASM off (understeer and oversteer both off). Some people would disagree, but i'd set TCS at 2. That's close enough.

Like i said, the mission car drives slightly different than an SLR that you buy no matter how you set TCS. That's good that you like driving the ring. 👍 That helps alot.

I thought I could find something about it here, but I was too lazy to go through those 1000 posts. :guilty:
I got my run time with the SLR (everything unchanged) down to under 7:09 last night. I'm pretty sure I can get it under 7:06. But I need more consistency and less bumping. I don't want to see that wait time of 2 minutes too often. Guess I will see it more often than I want to anyway. :ill:

update one night later:
turned off ASM and set TCS to 2 for the 2nd night and it was like driving a completely different car. After 30 minutes I started wondering if I waste time getting used to it just to find out that the mission car behaves differently again. So went into mission 34 and indeed it felt again totally different. The mission car feels much lighter and breaks out much faster. To make a long story short I decided to work on the mission itself right away. I got four laps in and my time went down from +28 seconds on the first attempt (many penalties) to +7.3 seconds (no penalties). I still think I can do it; it just will take time to get that one lap w/o any error. I'm still having fun. :)

Wow, that was quick. In comparison, i went from about +14.xxx to -.113, but it took me 2 weeks to get there. :grumpy:

It is a great feeling tho. Not to have to do any more missions.

Yeah, it was faster than expected. But if you count in my 18 month long A-spec hunt it wasn't that fast after all. I can only recommend doing a lot of other stuff first before trying mission34.

i tested to drive it, i came like 20 seconds away from the start and then i crashed :P lol, but i havent played GT4 for about 1,5 year, so i am keeping up good anyway :P
