Can't, unless you have a capture card to capture the video as it plays out of the PS2. The replay file is not a video file.

You have to nail a perfect lap to win this one, took me a while because I never used to have a wheel.

What I meant was that you can't have any spins/crashes that will cost you 5 seconds or more.

A perfect lap is not enough on this one. You need a perfect racing line, too. One little mistake, and you are off.

The only thing that seemed to throw me off was the 2:10 wait at the start of the event. It just seemed to throw off my concentration. Made me feel I needed to rush through every corner to make up the lost time.

When in reality as Codename L stated, you need to concentrate on your track line.
(And jump the occasional grassy nole if you are like me)

When I beat GT4 the first time, it took me 1 year to beat, because it took me ages to beat this mission! One of the most frustrating attemps resulted in this:

1: Mercedes 300 SL Coupe 9:03.473
2: Mercedes SLR McLaren 9:03.474

I passed the finish line and thought I have won, but then it comes I lost by...1 thousandth of a second!!!! That's less than the blink of an eye!!!!!!11!!!!!111111

FINALLY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ran a completely-clean 9m 11s .924, finishing less than a second ahead of the 300SL. Damn.. for the first time in 3 years I will be racing an R89C I actually earned :sly:.

Have fun with that car :dopey: I've beaten this mission by only two tries :sly:

This mission is utterly impossible... Better get used to the fact that YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS.. EVER... That is - Unless you put hours of practice into it.. The SLR is a slippery sucker with way too much power and way too little grip - so practice, practice, practice, then try again, fail - and then practice some more... Best advice I can give you - Brake early and coast thy turns young Jedi !...

This is truly the test of tests in GT4 - master this and you pull almost anything off ;)

Btw.. There's a couple of hints as to where it's possible to cheat and use a little more grass than necessary.. it's possible, but not recommended should you decide to participate in the WRS at some point ;) They may be found by using the search button..

Good Luck !...

yes you will. read my post in the main GT4 forum. you'll see 3 ways to solve this mission
💡

Or any of the nearly-thousand subsequent posts in this thread. Flerbizky's post was made more than 3 years ago.

you have to be careful when driving on this track with this car. i suggest gathering enough credits to buy the SLR McLaren. then, go to arcade mode, get the car, equipt it with sports tires and drive it around that track till you master it. but first, i suggest doing the mission (if you somehow win, may luck be with you) again and writing down the time of the lead car. this way, you know what time to beat.

awesome eh?

Not really, considering Posts #9 and #12 in this thread have said and covered exactly what you've suggested.... over 3 years ago.

You might as well have come here and suggested this brilliant new thing you invented, called "the wheel." :sly:

After reading all these posts from the beginning to end. I have picked up a lot of tips. Practice practice practice! And keep my kitchen knives out of reach. Glad I still have 5 other mission left before 34. And the rally races esp. the one for the Escudo Dirt Car.

funny. well it just so happened that i came within 0:00.986 from winning, so what i said works!!!!!!!!💡

Captain Obvious.

As Smallhorses said, that had been posted before, as it was a very good way to easily improve your skills and finally win this mission; gathering experience from those steps.
Or you thought he was saying "that will never work"?

pretty much. at first that's the same thing i thought. but it is obviously not so.

Yay I did it but with cheating. I have teh PAL version of GT4 and it took me 20 tries. By the time I was on my 15th try I couldnt stand the 112 second wait so I resorted to cutting corners and wallriding on the karussel corner. On the try I finally beat it, I hit the SLR very hard on the final corner so I got a 5 second penalty but the SLR was bashed off the track which meant I was able to win it.
My time splits were
1.41.1
1.33.998
1.25.192
1.13.797
1.01.575
51.125
37.351
30.113
23.063
13.336
5.102
My final time was 9.18.245 with the SL coming +2.467 second behind.

Also I wish in the driving missions in next GT5 they completely remove the countdown timer and when you start the cars in front are already whatever number of seconds in front to you.

really, cheating is the only way to get past this challenge. there are a lot of places where cutting through the grass is much quicker.

That is completely false. For more casual players or those that don't have the patience to sit through the waits to get a lot of practice, then yes, you're correct. But it is very possible to beat the AI by several seconds, even in the NTSC version, without cheating or even touching AI in any way.

Watch the video in this post, which you'd've found if you'd bothered to read any of the rest of the thread instead of making little 1 line throwaway comments.
It's clearly not necessary to cheat.
Seriously. Heed my advice about actually reading these mission threads before you post in here again.

The more I read about this mission the more terrified I become. Might be best left to the kids with 80 golds...

what is that?

Please listen to what people tell you. It's a great way to find out stuff you don't know. I know the thread is long, but jump to practically any page in it and you'll find the answer to your question. Or would you rather be spoon-fed? I'll be nice and point you to the bottom of post 12 this time, but really, what the moderators and other members are telling you is good advice.

I found this to be frustrating, but Austin343's videos did help a lot for showing a DS2, NTSC player how it's done. I have yet to legitly finish it (i managed the first few times by cutting grass, including a rally-esque powerslide through the S-turns before the first real straight :P), but after a couple tries I got within a few seconds.

I don't see how this would be hard for the PAL guys if the requirements are truly 8 seconds easier.

It's still kinda hard, because the SLR Mclaren is slower in the PAL version, and the 8 seconds difference evens out somewhat. From what i've heard, anyway. Believe it or not, I found this easy compared to some of the S-Licences. The first run I kept the car fully on the track, I won by 3.2 seconds. Knowing the car is the key 👍

look, the only thing you'll get from not cutting through the grass and wallriding is a 3rd place finish. i'm not just saying these things to say them. this has acctually happened to me. many times. and by the way, the other posts aren't very helpful. they are just complaints on how hard it is. if you can point me to some tactic posts, please do.

Are you the best GT4 player on the planet?

I mean it sounds to me rather like you're saying no-one can do it cleanly and your reasoning is that you can't.

Of course it is possible to beat this mission cleanly and the thread is full of examples of people who've done this and where you can obtain videos of just this kind of thing. I know I did it cleanly and I'm pretty sure I'm not the best GT4 player on the planet.

You're still not reading any of the advice offered here.
In my last post here I went to the trouble of finding the post which contains a YouTube video of a clean run for this mission in the US (NTSC) version, and I even put the link to that post within my message.
If you can't be bothered to read the advice and help we're offering you and wish to persist with your line of reasoning that "If I can't do it, then no-one can" don't expect any more favours here.
You've just received an official warning for continuing to post false information, and yet in the face of video evidence to prove that what you're saying is untrue, you're still trying to say that it cannot be done cleanly.
Think very, very carefully before you make your next post in this thread.

alright. there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding here. so let me clarify. I have to cut through the grass and wallride on this mission because I would never get through this mission otherwise. i'm just trying to get as much help as possible. the videos are nice, but they won't be there with me when i play this challenge this afternoon. i apologize if i made it seem as though i'm putting off the impression that if i can't do this, noone can. but the truth is, if i can't do this, it'll never get done. especially as hard as the Mercedes Showdown is.
