NTSC U/C version... 50-billionth attempt... 0.433 seconds behind the Gullwing with one 5-second penalty botching my pass on the SLK... if i had a puppy, i'd have kicked it... :ouch:

We undertand your pain.

Deep breaths...count to 10...or, 123.

Seriously, though, you are THERE. That's what I kept telling myself when I got under the 3 seconds mark. The rest is just luck; it's only a matter of time before you hit the beatiful lap that you deserve.

If I was to practice with the McLaren outside of the Mission(just to avoid the wait), what grade Sport tires should I use to replicate Mission 34? It seems like when I use the stock tires it comes with, I get better grip than when I run the Ring from within the Mission. Also is TCS/ASM on, within the Mission?

i believe it was Dori who suggested using Sports Hard tires front/rear with the ASM set to 0 and the TCS set to 2... the Sports Medium tries are supposed to be the car's default tires for the mission, but yeah--the car behaves very differently... :banghead:

i been using the Sports Medium tires with the ASM and TCS set as suggested and pulling off consistant 7:04s w/o intentional mowing or wall-riding... it should be enough, but i've been having a hard time controlling the car w/o both hands around my throat (choking), and have gotten as close as my new personal best of 0.322 behind that cursed Gullwing... :scared:

i'm wondering which'll be more cost effective: my bills for therapy and anger-management courses, or moving to a PAL-region and getting a new PS2 and copy of GT4... :grumpy:

Mission 34 is a real difficult one to beat.

I had the offical guide and that said use the crass at certain parts of the course... after sutdying that I went out for another go and got him over the line... actualy felt sick as I was sweating that much... ages ago since I passed it but very beatable.

Cutting the crass could be called cheating but it seemed like the only way to win. The Skyline one was another hard one but after countless hours at Tosk Talk and her found the trick to winning..

In actual fact I think it was Daan and Famine that helped me the most... never got chance to thank them actualy.

ah finally i passed that mission (without wall riding or lawn moving.)

and now its time to finishs the game, just one Formula GT race left (then its 100% done)

Sum1s2pid; yeah. But if you were in PAL region you would probably hunt a sub 9:04 in PAL M34 so that you would know you could win NTSC version of M34 too.

This has been discussed earlier, but I think you should be able to get concistently 7:01's flying laps with the stock tires and 7:04's with one step harder compound. Then you can be sure you will win the mission.

yep... i know i've gotten good enough to get my times down and beat that mission cleanly, but i just couldn't take it anymore... so i cut the lawn twice and rode one wall intentionally to "pass" it by 1.127... now that i have the luxory of knowing i don't "have" to pass it, i can go back and do it clean, and with less self-imposed pressure... it was a bittersweet "victory", but i'll let the R89C and black F1 help me deal with my guilt... :embarrassed:

10 THINGS TO DO WHILE WAITING FOR M34 TO START:

1) Make a sandwich.
2) Get a beer from the fridge (take advantage - it's only virtual driving)
3) Walk the dog (it's a small dog, it only needs a short walk)
4) Mow the lawn (you're going to have to in the game, why not do it for real?)
5) Clean the pasta out from those cracks beside the cooker
6) Watch The Lord of the 'Rings
7) Take a power nap
8) Call your mother
9) Take a leak
10) Call your mother while taking a leak

 LMFAO

If I got a beer from the fridge every time I restarted M34, I would wind up driving backwards and wondering why all those idiots are so far behind me.

In the replay I recorded, the song playing during the 123 seconds was "So Long Baby, Good-bye" by The Blasters? Every time the song hit that phrase, another AI car would leave, as if to taunt me. It was pretty funny, actually.

I come to this thread to expresse my pain about mission 34 I did that ****y mission during 5 torturing long hours (not folowed) and I was getting better by the minute so I was able to catch the A.I lead, but my problem is that I can't do a clean overtake on this bastard and I was loose by less then a sec.
I'm starting to have suicide wishs
Those 🤬 idiots on P.D shal have horrible deads by making this mission into a torture

ONLY 5 hours?

Ahh... you have the PAL version :sly:

LOLL

NTSC took me about 10-12 hours spread out over 4 days. I can't take PAL players seriously anymore.

J/K, I know it's still a damn hard mission...keep trying! :)

The PAL version is, in fact, damn hard.

However, that makes the NTSC version REALLY damn hard. :)

Anyone who passes this mission (any version) is a master nonetheless.

5 hours? 10-12 hours? Seriously? I just started it, my first run I finished 5th, 19 seconds back. :dunce: I was thinking I'll beat it within the hour, but now am not so sure.

I can't see why everyone makes such a big deal about this mission. Yes, it required a bit of practice, but most of the time I spent on that mission was actually learning the Nurb. Once I knew the track I passed it pretty quickly.

I thoroughly enjoyed the mission too.

Well, that's exactly why people make a big deal about this mission. Having to learn the course. Clearly it takes longer for some. I haven't had one run without a 5 second penalty yet, everytime I go to pass the 5th place driver, he seems to have this unstoppable urge to turn directly into me. Closest I've been is 4.xxx seconds behind. I'll keep at it tomorrow, I think my brain hurts a little right now. :dopey:
MilitantMandy
Yeah, it is pretty hard, but not the hardest of the missions.
No? Which did you have the most trouble with? This has easily been the hardest for me. 👎

Now that I have passed mission 34(with wall riding on the karrussel and 3 shortcuts) by 0.8xx :dopey: sec I can talk without stress :).
This is not the hardest mission altought it's the more frustrating so by being the most frustating it's the hardest psicologicily(is this well spelled?)
The hardest missions:
1- Mission 18(altought we can cheat a lot in this one :dopey: )
2- Mission 34
3- Mission 11
4- Mission 13
5- Mission 15

The easy ones:
1- All the slipstream battles
2- Mission 20
3- Mission 31
4- Mission 14 (I killed the Buick by 3 secs :sly: )
5- Mission 17 (the Bently drives like if it is in a ride:dopey: )

Feel free to disagree

By the way... can some one tell me if my game has the bug that we can't reach 100%? :scared: I'm at 98.9% and I only have to do 4 enduros :sly: :
Circuit de la Sarthe 1
Circuit de la Sarthe 2
Fuji 1000km
Infinion something something :D

I found the drafting with the skylines to be much harder and even more frustrating. At least 34 is hard beacuse it's hard if you know what I mean. The skyline one was just stupid. Once I got the leapfrog technique down it was fine, but it just seemed disproportionately hard for what you were actually being asked to do.

well this mission has claimed a controller life my controller is in little parts all over my room after losing this race by nothing more than a .100 sec after 8 hr's of just doing this mission
this is the last driving mission i have too do
i was wondering what car do you win for all driving missions complete

 I think this mission has claimed more controller lives than any other. My closest loss was by 0.034 seconds. I literally jumped up at the end and screamed, "YES!!...NOOOOOOO!!!!" It was tough, but take comfort in the fact that once you are that close, it's only a matter of time. I beat it by 0.062 seconds two or three tries later. (No screaming, just stunned silence.)

For completing Missions 30-34, you get the Nissan R89C, one of the Le Mans Prototypes. There's not many races you can't win with this car. Although, if you are in the market for an LMP, the Toyota Minolta 88C-V is a better car, IMO, and far easier to acquire (El Capitan 300). I race the Minolta and brag about having the R89C. ;)

Hey, I just joined the forum. I found the site while searching for a downloadable copy of the new Vision GT press video. I just found these 1-lap magic races and I love the concept, plus, I love Nurburgring. I even raced the entire 24 and 4 hour endurance races a-spec so I think I have all the fast lines learned and now I'm going to try to tackle this mission, wish me luck.

Welcome!

M34 is the toughest challenge in the game, especially for the NTSC version. The other 1-lap magics are cake compared to this. Godspeed!

yeah, I read through the entire thread and that's the general consensus everyone here has about this mission.

I've just come off some intense races using the Formula Gran Turismo. It's always hard for me to go from the super grip of the Formula car down to a production car, especially now using sports tires while trying to blaze a trail through Nurburgring.

This blows my mind - I have read similar comments quite a few times now. Having finished every Gran Turismo so far, all 100%, all golds on each - I was expecting mission 34 to be tough, but it just wasted me. I spent a week and a half, probably 50 hours (maybe more) trying to pass this mission. No other license test or mission even comes close to comparing with the difficulty of mission 34 IMO. "a bit of practice"? Holy banana peels man - you are blessed to be so skilled!

eh... i passed that mission at 9th try.

most of mine probs caused the way how AI drives. its hard to pass them because they drives "zig zag" even at the straights. :scared: (i wonder if they are bit "drunk" or something)

Perhaps it is in your experience. In my experience IA16 is the toughest challenge in the game, as I have spent 2 days golding that test. I passed M34 on my third try with a few seconds to spare on no.2. But on the other hand.. M34 is one of the toughest Missions.

Note to PAL users: Read this ENTIRE THREAD before you post ANYTHING here. You coming in here and saying "this mission isn't hard, i beat it in [enter single-digit number of attempts here]" is like walking into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with a beer and saying "Man, this beer is delicious! It's a good thing I can stop whenever I want, becuase otherwise, I might drink 12 of these!"

Did you win by 13 seconds? If not, you weren't fast enough to beat the NTSC version. Read back through this thread. The differences between the PAL and NTSC versions are well documented. My comment "M34 is the toughest challenge in the game, especially for the NTSC version" was directed at someone in Virginia, who will have the same problems with this mission that all of us North Americans had.

And I golded IA-16 in three tries. :)

M34 isn't hard not even in NTSC if you know the track.

Myself have the both versions, and you can only say that PAL is a warm-up for a bit more crazy-run for NTSC, but then again you can beat NTSC without too much trouble as long as you have perfect knowledge of Nurb. Take a notice on word "perfect".

That is the one and only key to M34.

If you just think you know the track, then you'll blame the SLR for having no brakes, you'll blame the tyres, you'll blame the suspension or transmission - all wothout any sence - but one will never blame himself. Shame.

You have to know how SLR behaves and how to use that very specific behaviour to propell trough the Nurb. But you have to know Nurb first. No guides can help you, no "take this curve in 120 kmh" advise will teach you, you have to master it.

M34 is a "jewel in a crown" of every true NurbMeister (©a212 :)) and I just can't wait GT5 with some similar type of mission involving 15-20 cars instead of 5. That will be a true Paradise in Hell. :)
