I cannot for the life of me catch the green Mclaren, and yellow Corvette.... any suggestions on beating this stage??

This one was a nightmare for me. This is what finally worked for me.
-Buy the Gr.3 WRX and use that. I tried several other cars I owned and this car was the easiest to get the power down coming out of turn 1 which was crucial.
-Start race with Softs on the front and Mediums on the rears. You can really abuse them on the oval track and going through turn 1 and 3 fast is key.
-Draft when ever possible. Duh. Be aggressive, you want to pass each car as quickly as possible and not hang behind them longer than neeeded.
-Pit on lap 11, switch to full softs and put in ~10.5 laps of fuel
-Get back out there and be aggressive again on those fresh softs.
-Once you get in first place, block like a mad man. Screw the etiquette videos, AI doesn't abide by them why should you. Be careful not to get spun out.
This was the only mission that required over 10 tries for me. It was awful, un-fun, and teaches you nothing about oval racing.

If you are right up their chuffs for the first 11-12 laps, you will have a 9-11 second lead on the Subaru when he leaves the pits. Push like heck and dont make any mistakes. We are so much faster than the AI in the final corner that will help.
If you havent made any mistakes, you should win with a 2 second gap. If you have, block them like crazy for 2-3 laps.
IT CAN BE DONE!

I also had a very hard time with this one. Try all the different ways and see what works for you. I used the Porche 911 R, fuel lean 5, like the others have posted, draft, draft, draft, as close as you can. I also used manual instead of automatic (which I usually use auto). Didn't have any trouble with them catching me until the last lap and blocked successfully to get the win. Watch your gas carefully as I leaned to 6 beginning of last lap and then took lean off completely at the end. Good luck!

So max I managed was 3rd place... Did try all the things, even to use map 6 in order not to get into the pits... It is sad to see that same cars have different power and weight ratios, meaning the AI, even on fuel map 1, doesn't matter what car is it, AI will pull off without draft... This is uttery bs...

- Fuel Mapping on Power the ENTIRE TIME
- Get to 6th pos by LAP 4, and 4th pos by LAP 6! (should be rolling with the lead pack by lap 9, 1st place is possible at this time!)
- PIT ON LAP 9 before LAP 10!
- Switch to RACING MEDIUM TIRES
- FILL UP COMPLETELY ON FUEL
- You should come out RIGHT BEHIND/WITH THE BACK of the PACK!
- SLIPSTREAM WHO YOU CAN, WHILE YOU CAN!
- 7th place by LAP 12, 1st place by Lap 13! If not, it can still be close! Be ready to battle!

This ******* idiotic PD AI programming... *** do AI drive? They are like stone, and when they hit you you are like feather... *** is this enjoyable to anyone, how can someone learn something from this? Only thing I learned till now is frustation and nerving...

Hi, the following tips are one method which worked for me golding it
- using Subaru WRX Gr.3
- all default car settings
- default ABS
- all other assists off

- last corner slight lift off, no brakes, shift to 5th, full throttle
- drive smoothly, drafting as much as possible at every available opportunity
- rinse and repeat driving like this for the whole race
- pit end of lap 10 (should have just below half tank fuel left)
- change to RM tyres, fuel for 13 laps (or fuel to 3/4 mark on the fuel gauge)
- change to fuel map 2 when exiting pit
- will be exiting pit at position 16
- will be just ahead of the other rocket Subaru when it exit pit on lap 12
- will be 1st at start of lap 13
- drive smoothly, keep checking mirror for where other rocket Subaru is
- last 5 laps, make your car as wide as possible ie apply a few doses of gentle sportsmanship blocking the rocket Subaru as it stars drafting you
- fuel tank will be just about empty at the checkered flag
- and watch out for a fast approaching Mustang and Viper that might steal your win

I did it on RH seting the fuel map to 4 (and a bit of short shifting)- following the M6/650S/Alfa (lap times round 45s)for as long as possibile. After the leader exits the pits you will have a 4-8s lead and enough fuel to go back to fuel map 1 for the last two laps. Works with every car- I've done it on third try in an GTR.

Finally i've made it too, after "a few" tries. 
Tactic was like this:
Took the Subaru with soft tires at the front and mediums at the rear.
Pushed it hard towards the end of lap 9, ending up in 2nd place.
Pitted, changed it to medium tires, filled up fuel completly, coming out of the pits in last place.
Driving the next rounds with all slipstream i could get.
As the end of lap 12 came up, everyone had pitted.
I was in 1st place with like 4 seconds advantage over the 2nd placed car.
From now on just staying focussed, driving fast and don't give the AI your slipstream.
At the end of lap 21 i won it with like 0,4 seconds or so.
No fuel saving, everything driven at fuel setting one.
Controller, manual shifting, TCS set to one, but i don't think that's important.
Did it twice like this, to beat the time of my friend and won both.
1st try the AI Subaru was struggeling, so i could hold a 3 seconds lead up to the finish line.
While i was only coming 4th into the pits at the end of lap 9.
This way it seems to be a relativly save win ...

I finally did it, after trying various strategies, with the GRX. Started on hard tyres, used fuel 1 for the whole race, pitted on lap 12 when I meant to put on soft tyres and put on medium by mistake! They seem to provide more grip for longer, where the softs have a tendency to go off very quickly.
Came out of the pits in P1, and managed to stay there for the remainder of the race, eventually winning by 0.5 seconds. Stay to the left of the track on the straights, to stop the other cars getting a tow - no blocking necessary!

I tried all kind of methods to get this done. Ended up simplifying it all, Ferrari 458, fuel map 1, medium tyres. 11 lap stint followed by 10 lap stint. 1st in 15:35.5, only a couple of defensive moves just to cover off the opponent's line in the last 2-3 laps

Here's what I did - and a big thanks to some people in another thread for this one:

- On Turn 1, brake at the 100m sign and slam the car into 4th
- On Turn 3, coast into the turn (lift off ~100m sign) and get back on the gas at 155ish MPH.
- Do NOT hit the walls. The lost time is amplified on an oval.
- Start with RS/RS.
- Push yourself as hard as you can, catch up to the top cars. You should get within 3 seconds of the top three.
- Take your pit stop at Lap 9.
- Switch to RM/RM, full tank.
- Keep pushing. You should catch the rocket AI on lap 11 as they leave the pits, or you'll be ahead of them. That depends on your pace.
- Don't be afraid to draft and block the AI - but if you did everything right, you should be able to get a one second lead. Use that space as much as you can by maintaining pace.
- You should finish in 1st on lap 21 - you may or may not have an angry mob of AI immediately behind you.
