MISSION STAGE 8 / 6 Blue Moon Bay Speedway HOW?????

I did it differently for gold

Subaru Gr.3
Roll on fuel 6
Racing hards

Draft the first McLaren right on his rear bumper and the car infront of it as long as you can (until they pit). If you are right up their chuffs for the first 11-12 laps, you will have a 9-11 second lead on the Subaru when he leaves the pits. Push like heck and dont make any mistakes. We are so much faster than the AI in the final corner that will help.

If you havent made any mistakes, you should win with a 2 second gap. If you have, block them like crazy for 2-3 laps.

IT CAN BE DONE!

Edit: oh yeah if it isnt clear, dont pit lol

Thanks oskierox, your strategy worked for me (even then, took a few tries to get the timings right, and actually ran out of fuel once)! Really do have to keep on Fuel 6, draft perfectly, then manage fuel carefully afterwards, I didn't have as much as as a buffer on lap 12 onwards but managed to block, and somehow reclaim position after letting the WRX slip by on lap 18.

(Had to start recording the 2nd lap since I hadn't changed PS4's default 15 minute recording time)

Do NOT, under any circumstances, try to overtake the AI on the outside of turn one. You'll be put in the fence quicker than you can say "Rubbin's Racin'."

Just had my third attempt ruined on the second to last lap by the exact misfortune...

Anyway, here's my strategy, that should work, if you don't get squeezed into the wall:

  • Subaru WRX Gr.3, starting on Front Softs and Rear Mediums
  • Pit on lap 10 for all Mediums, fill with 11.0 laps of fuel
  • Once the leaders (Viper/WRX) come out of the pits a lap after you, draft the Subaru until the end of the race. This should give you a gap to the third place car.
  • Divebomb that sum:censored: into turn 3n, which should give you a nice run to the line.
The WRX is easily the best car around BMB in terms of handling. I'll take another go at this tonight, hopefully with good results.

I tried this race 6 times last night, and the best I can do is 3rd place, with first and second far away enough I can't get in their draft. It seems I spend a lot of laps with nobody to draft on, running in 4-5 place early on.

This *-ing race! I must have done it 30 odd times now trying all different strategies. I've got all the golds on every challenge, circuit, and driving school test but this one and I'm so fed up! I even tried to write a complaint to Polyphony that this challenge is broken and not at all an accurate simulation of proper oval racing. Ug! Surely this is not what they intended. Right?!
Anyway, thanks to all who've posted their strategies. I'm walking away disgusted for now. Until, that is, my completionist ocd kicks in again and I have to wipe that 99% off the mission challenge counter. Either that or I take up smoking again.
Peace out.

Edit: Finally!!! Huge thanks to GordonS for the no-pit video strategy. It took a couple of tries but it really was the judicious use of the fuel mix to keep me in the draft that worked. That and sheer luck with blocking on the final laps. Good luck everyone. It IS do-able!

3-4? which one was that?

Not 3-4, rather Mission 34 from GT4, arguably the hardest event to do in the history of GT. And certainly thee hardest non-license test in the history of GT. The one and only flaw in GT4 in my opinion.

@SZRT Ice Thank you so much for your report. 👍:bowdown:

After spending all day yesterday on this mission with 291.2 miles in the WRX, 269.7 miles in the FT-1, 173.8 miles in the 911 and in desperation, 15.6 miles in the Viper...all I had was a second place finish. I really studied your video and saw where I was losing time in turn 1 and turn 3 and yes, I wasn't drafting well enough to close the gap to 2 seconds as I entered pit lane on lap #9.

Maybe it was the 1.05 update or a good nights sleep but I was able to gold it on my second try today! I wasn't quite as quick as you and I had to flight off the pack for the last 6 laps as I was unable to build up the two second lead by lap 13. I really thought they were going to spin me out on the final lap but I was able to block and kind of stay away from them at the same time...:crazy:

I tried many suggestions/cars without success but your suggestions did the job for me...at least I got the King of the Ovals Trophy as well.

Man the frustration, I'm like a lot of guys here, tried all strategies and yet to get past second. Had the Mustang harassing me in one race, then the green Lambo decided it was his turn. Was 4 seconds behind the two leaders in this race and could not make any impression on them when he decided no matter what I did he could fly past me on the straight and make me go around him in turn 3. He started bashing me and I got sick of him so tried to introduce him to the fence but we had a major bust up and I ended up having a chat to the fence myself.
It's also a pain seeing my friends and others winning in 15.36 minutes and me doing the same time and being beaten by 5 seconds after getting to within 1.2 secs of the leader and see him gain 4 secs in the last 4 laps.
And don't get me started on million dollar rally cars that try to turn themselves inside out trying to pass VWs that can nearly outpace them and go around corners at nearly the same speed and not even go sideways!!!

after you completed 8-6, was 8-7 and 8-8 easy?

Both are a lot easier compared to 8-6 imo. You have to drive as fast as you can and pit in the right lap in 8-7. 8-8 is just driving around the Nordschleife for 3 laps without crashing. The AIs are a lot tamer than those in 8-6.

I don't understand the difficulty everyone is experiencing with this event.

The VW VGT or the Renault RS01 make this event a walk in the park. I cleared the event on my 3rd attempt.

The VW VGT is (pre patch 1.05) the fastest car around the track on a single lap but lacks a bit of top speed where the Renault has a little more top speed.

Draft the opposition and by lap 5 you should already be drafting the first 4 cars. If successful, you can overtake them using a draft before they make their pit stop and you should have enough fuel to do an additional 2 laps after the AI pits.

After your pit stop you should have a lead of at least 20seconds and now it's only a matter of driving clean laps until the time runs out. (I cleared it with the Renault and did it again in the VW a couple of days later).

My advice:
- racing hard tyres
- fuel map on max power
- use the renault
- pit 2 laps after the AI

Edit: removed a big typo, lol.

Hi Retiree,
Same stories here ... but I made it finally.
Hit the leading Subi exactly when exiting the pits and squeezed him a bit wide in turn 1 :D, leaving him completely shocked and unable to follow me.

Worked 2nd try for me :) thx (first try the subaru passed me last corner o.o)

When coming to lap 8,9: you can put on mix 4 or 5 to catch up the mclaren

I almost pulled it off my first try and have not tried since. My strategy was DO NOT PIT. It almost worked. Starting on all softs was my downfall as I had no RR tire at the end. I blocked my butt off but I was very slow due to being all the way on the lean side of fuel. Eventually with a couple of minutes to go, I wrecked myself trying to block the AI.

Can we change the tires we start on? I may attempt this strategy again

Wish I had seen this thread before attempting this challenge.
Have so far been on it for an hour or so and finished a close 3rd (1 sec off 1st) everytime.

Using the FT-1 VGT as I saw somebody got a T10 time with it.
GOD knows how, because it just doesn't have the pace.

Going to try the WRX and hopefully that will work!

First run out in the WRX following the tactic below has seen me beat the mission, finishing with a 4 second lead :)

- Soft fronts / Medium rears
- Pit lap 11 (was right behind front 3)
- Put Softs all round on, fuel for 10 laps
- Draft where possible, I didn't really need it for most part though if you take turns 1 and 3 quick enough as you can gap the AI by about 3 tenths a lap until the final few laps.

Thanks to those that provided this tactic, you the real MVP's haha

Keep at it mate - you'll get there in the end

I understand everyone’s frustration as I have been trying this mission for LITERALLY A WEEK and I have finally found the solution and I just got gold. You need the VW Beetle Gr3 Car, and use racing hard tires front and back. Start with fuel map 6 for the first 10 laps. Once you hit lap 10 you will have enough fuel to switch to fuel map 1. Now here is the kicker - YOU HAVE TO USE MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND NEVER PIT. I REPEAT: MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND NEVER PIT. Short shift and don’t let those RPM’s get too high. You will have to keep the WRX behind you with precision driving at the end but it’s very doable.

Well miracles do happen guys. Thanks to JEasy34 I finally beat this nasty critter. First try I ran out of fuel on the 19th lap and thought here we go again, but I decided to have another twirl but this time after 10 laps I only cut the fuel down to 2 and the whole race didn't let the revs go past the gear indicator. Got the red fuel light on the 20th lap and thought, bloody lovely I've done it again but crossed the line to get the finish flash and thought how did I do that? I looked at the time, 15.06.767 mins. That's all you have to do, time it to the last 6 seconds!!:lol:

So glad you got it! Congrats!

I just can’t do this. Best I can get is 3rd. I think I must be doing something wrong on turn 1.

Time is coming in at 15:16.421.

VW Beetle Gr3 Car
Racing Hard tires all the way around
Fuel Map 6
Switch to fuel map 1 on lap 10
You should be taking turn one in the 125-140 MPH Zone and brake at the 100 meter sign mark
Use manual transmission and never pit

Here's an easy strategy.

WRX not required.
Extreme record breaking pace, also not required.
No incidents, no dive bombs, no blocking and best of all,
not a "rocket car" in sight.
Funny how slow the "rocket car" and his mates are when you've got tyres and fuel left as well.

Found this strategy hidden deep inside GT Sport of all places, think it was filed under video tutorial or similar.

Followed that strategy above with the NSX. Caught up to the sonax beetle and then put the fuel map to 5/6 to stay with it. Pitted on 10 with around 50% and put in 82-85% fuel. Came out and set to fuel map 1 and when the WRX rocket car was coming out the pits I took first.

Final lap of blocking the car with me in first the stupid AI put maneuvres me...raging.

Here is my video, I have passed it and see that still people need tips for this race so that I wanted to share my strategy and video just for you.

I used subaru wrx gr.3 and started with racing soft tires both. Entered pit at the end of lap 9 and changed tires to racing medium and filled my fuel tank 88 lt and pit out. I used map1. Then after pit stop just for 1 lap I used map4 and then 11-21 laps used map1 again. Keep away your car from your rivals drafting zone. Good luck.

NOTE: I am using ds4 and automatic gear

Struggling with this one, I've tried various cars and strategies. On one attempt I was 9 seconds in front of the WRX. I was in the RSR, problem was I was 2 laps short on fuel. I've tried drafting the BMW or the Beetle, most of the times I try the car behind joins us, tries to overtake and causes me to lose time to the leaders before I try an undercut stop. I end up less than a second in front of the WRX who promptly spins me if i try to block.

If I pass the BMW/Beetle I can run as high as 8th before stopping, but the fuel fuel usage makes for a slightly longer stop and seems to mean the leaders run a faster pace.

I have noticed that compared to some of the videos the cars are in different order and gaps between them also differ, I wonder if it got altered in 1.05 update?

Edit: Nevermind, managed it. WRX, medium tyres, power 1, caught up to 9th/10th/11th which were the FT-1, GT-R and Ferrari, power down to 3, followed the Ferrari, lifting off on straights until lap 9 when I passed i the last corner, pitted the next lap, 5.5 fuel left, medium tyres again, refuel to 12.5 laps of fuel. Power to 1, ended up behind the WRX but caught and passed him lap 13, had to block for a couple of laps but he then fell back to 1-1.2 seconds behind and didn't gain on me. fuel down to 2 for the last lap as it was getting rather tight.

I think the big difference was using the controller and upping the sensitivity, when I was using the wheel I had to turn it 180 degrees in the first corner, I just couldn't turn it fast enough to turn in where I really needed to. I guess setting the wheel rotation to say 180 degrees might help.

Here is how I did it, after over 10 tries.

1. Start out front-soft rear-medium, FT 3, draft like mad.

2. Pit in at 10th lap, change to medium, fuel to 13.x/14.x laps

3. switch to FT1 and race like a mad man, you should have 5 - 6 seconds ahead.

4.1 There are 2 ways to finish, you can slow down a bit to block them so that the race finish at lap 20, if you intend to do that, you could fuel up to 13.2 laps when you pit, but believe me, its hard.

4.2 If you don't want to do much blocking, and race hard, they should be within 0.2 seconds behind you at lap 21, depends on your luck, if they don't attack at the same time, it's quite easy to finish first this way. At this point, I would run a late apex to force them to slow down at turn 1.

I eventually golded this event by ignoring all the advice/tips (as good as they are btw) as I still couldn't do it. What worked for me was pitting twice, I started on RS tyres and fuel on power mode. The 1st stop was for tyres only on end of lap 6, again RS tyres, came out in 13th place and perfectly drafted all vehicles up to 4th, stayed with them till cars 1 and 2 pitted but stayed with 3rd place car (now 1st place) till it pitted where I followed it in, switched to RH tyres and fuelled for 10laps (I think), came out in 4th place and drafted past 3rd and 2nd place cars. The trick is now NOT to pass 1st place car till the RED FINAL LAP warning comes up, you draft that car for the next 4 or 5 laps, the 2 cars behind won't be anywhere near you - so no blocking needed, then on the FINAL LAP there are two corners where the AI is slower, try to pass the 1st place on the slowest corner then you'll win the race by nearly 5 seconds, or for that nail biting finish, pass it on the inside final corner in 5th gear and win it by the width of an eyelash
