I forgot to ask...

Did I appear to lag to anyone? My car looked to be ok on Tavilha's videos.
My new internet connection seems to be relatively stable now, with just the occasional reboot, but I of course can't tell how I appeared to others. I didn't see any lag from anyone else which is hopefully a good sign.

It's currently settled with the slightly slower download and slightly faster upload speeds, which is a comprise I can live with. It'll stream a Netflix/YouTube video without problems.
I followed you for a bit...Looked normal, but slower than you usually do. Did you have damage??
 
For the last few laps my wheel was askew after an off road excursion Skip. It wasn't worth pitting since I could just about maintain the gap behind me.

I'm not sure why suspension damage is always represented by a wonky wheel angle, it's very awkward driving like that. Difficulty in turning would be better.
Tip for the day: If you bash the other side equally it straightens it up. :)

Please note the following changes: I have moved @DD84UK and @jefaais to Reserve status (for this championship). @Alex ONei and DD84UK will now race in black as Pro Reserves.

@Kerios will race in future in the same colours as @Tavilha The Vacant driver, when filled will race in Light Blue.



Race Report

I managed a little practise at the weekend with the AI drivers, but when I started qualifying it quickly became obvious that I had been relying on the AI drivers and hadn't learnt any of the braking points as I spent more time off the track than on it. On my third lap I was on for a good time (by my standards), but spent too long looking at the screen and drove off onto the grass on the start finish straight! On the next lap I spun into the wall wrecking the front of the car then did it again while trying to get back to the pits!

I started last and was really enjoying following @John Wells who was driving nicely. Some people were having problems with accidents and spins so I was able to make up some places. I had a couple of spins then allowed myself to relax and not push and got into a nice rhythm. I kept moving over to let faster drivers who had spun get past, but quite often I passed them when they went off track again!

I was very happy to finish 8th and feel that with more practise I could have avoided being lapped, but probably wouldn't have been able to place any higher.

An amazing track - this track has hardly changed in over sixty years and must have been a complete revelation for drivers with its width, length and relative safety compared with other race circuits in the USA and Europe.

This was our 3rd round - in the equivalent race in 1966 the podium comprised 1st Mark Donohue - Lola T70 Chevrolet, 2nd Phil Hill - Chaparral 2E Chevrolet, 3rd Chuck Parsons - McLaren M1B. Pole position and fastest lap were taken by Dan Gurney - Lola T70 Ford.

Masten Gregory "The Kansas City Flash" was 10th in the Pacesetter Homes sponsored McLaren M1B - I was lucky enough to see and photograph this car at last years FIA Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch last year:

John Surtees retired his Lola T70 Chevrolet after just one lap following a multi-car accident. Below John was in fine form when this photo was taken - even allowing small boys to sit in his car to have photos taken by their proud Dads - a great man and a sad loss!

I just tried Laguna Seca and it looks stunning at sunrise with light and medium clouds. Even if we don't race at that time, everyone should try it.
The car seems to like this track better than Road America, but you should still avoid too much curb, especially on the apex. You still need a light touch of the throttle and brakes, early braking, and late apexes seem better because of the car's very light front end and serious push understeer.
 
Cheers @Tavilha for capturing some good battles on the replay (and congrats on the rampant win). Wish we had a live race broadcaster with some authentically posh 1960s commentary!

Great to relive some of the dices with @beachboy6658 – great clean driving from you, waiting patiently for your moment. I quit smoking 2 years ago but boy could I have done with one after 15-odd minutes of trying to keep you at bay!
 
I had a pretty uneventful race really. After a few incidents that befell the the drivers in front of me I'd worked my way up to 5th. And that's where I stayed.
Earlier on I noticed that @joedakiss had also broken through and was keeping a constant few seconds behind, which kept me focused. Then @beachboy6658 caught him up and I think they slowed each other down slightly which let me increase my gap. Not really seeing too many cars I ended up loosing concentration a bit towards the end but nevertheless managed to keep it on track.

Well done to @Tavilha on the win.
I like how he doesn't need the virtual mirror since there's not usually too many cars close enough behind him to worry about. :P

Final Round 5 of 5 from Watkins Glen International GP (dedicated to the memory of Walt Hansgen)

This round we are using Watkins Glen International GP as a substitute for Riverside International Raceway. This round is dedicated to the memory of Walt Hansgen, a very successful Sports Car racer (4 times SCCA champion) who tragically lost his life, aged 46, on 7th April 1966 following an accident during a test at La Sarthe - his 7 litre Ford GT40 MK2 aquaplaned on the wet track and he took to an escape road which sadly was blocked with a barrier.

In the video below Walt Hansgen demonstrates his sublime car control skills in a race at Silverstone, beating saloon car specialist Sir Gawaine Baillie of Leeds Castle by 34 seconds!




I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the ex-Walt Hansgen Zerex Special Lola T70 at last years FIA Masters Historic Festival at Brands.

Below highlights of the 1965 race featuring a field of greats - it is well worth a watch - look out for the rare footage of Jimmy Clark and Richie Ginther in the Lotus 40's (rare because the 40 was not a good car and hence had a very short racing life):

Thanks for the video of Riverside...I have lots of memories of the Chaparral cars and Jim Hall racing there.
 
Guys, I am back working now, and I must be there this Monday all day (one off deal)...so I will miss the last Lotus 40 race (probably for the best). But I will be at Ruapuna in my green and gold Lotus 49 #6 for sure!
 
What’s the deal with this car and the kerbs? It’s like cats and water.
That's a good way of putting it. Except my cat goes out in the rain and snow! :boggled:

At Road America the Lotus seemed to be especially kerb shy, but at the same time was strangely attracted to them. It seems the rear tyres are the culprits. The loose setup may be marginally better.
 
We need to specify start rules ones more. I thought everyone should accelerate:
1. When start line passed.
2. When car ahead accelerates.

I keep both that rules and loosing positions because there are some guys who accelerates before start line and dont wait when car ahead accelerates.

If I missed something about rules please specify.
