Hard question: When is the last time a supercharged car appeared on the grid at the Indianapolis 500?

Easier question, but less trivial: When is the first time a turbocharged car won the Indianapolis 500?

Answer either question correctly and win! (Please give year, driver and car/engine)

I'll bet there was a supercharger as late as 1959.

First win? Not sure if the Cosworth DFX ever had a turbocharger but I'll say 1980.

The forum seems uninterested in pursuing the question further, so I'll award @TheCracker the win and ask him to move us on.

Most of guys here are more knowledgeable on Euro Motorsport, you'd probably he the same reaction on a NASCAR question. We won't be able to answer it very well.

I'd forgotten about this and never got around to finding the full answer. :dunce:

Q) Which was the final year/season that NASCAR was actually based on the equivalent road car chassis?

I believe this to be the correct answer. @TheCracker

I believe it is!

(Oops. Forgot I'd asked a question)

Turns out there isn't a definitive answer to my question as it was a gradual change over to space/tube-framed chassis. Some privateer entrants were still using unibody (street car based) chassis into the 70's. Further complicated by the fact that tube-frames were made mandatory on the quicker ovals at some point in the late 60's (67 I think). But 66 was the season that Holman Moody introduced the tube-frame, which is what I was thinking of when the question was posed.

GTPorsche's turn.

Seeing as though it's been three weeks since the last question was answered, I'll revive this thread with a question if @GTPorsche doesn't mind?

In the history of F1, which are the only two consecutive years where the calendar of races has remained unchanged? (To clarify, I'm looking for the two years where there were no changes to number of races, countries where races are held or the order the races are held)

OK, here's my question:

Name the five world drivers' champions who drove for Ferrari, but didn't win a title with them.

Nigel Mansell
Mario Andretti
Alain Prost

Uh.. did Giuseppe Farina drive for them too? And Vettel, of course.

Edit: God damn it. I don't know how I missed Alonso!

Vettel doesn't count. He will only count when he takes the start of a Grand Prix driving a Ferrari.

I'll exclude Vettel seeing as he hasn't actually competed in a Grand Prix weekend for Ferrari yet, but @Jimlaad43, you're the first to get all five:
  • Farina (1950 World Champion, drove for Ferrari from 1952-5)
  • Andretti (1978 World Champion, Ferrari driver for 1971-2 and the 1982 Italian and Caesar's Palace Grands Prix)
  • Mansell (1992 World Champion, Ferrari driver for 1989-90)
  • Prost (1985, '86, '89 and '93 World Champion, Ferrari driver for 1990-1)
  • Alonso (2005-6 World Champion, Ferrari driver for 2010-14)

How many Italians have scored a podium at the Italian Grand Prix?
If you'll allow me to brainstorm out loud:

I'm sure of
Fisichella in 2005 or 2006
Alboreto in that famous Ferrari 1-2 in 1988
Scarfiotti won his only championship GP at Monza
Bandini 3rd in 1964
Fagioli and Nuvolari won Italian GPs during the interbellum

I'm fairly confident that Farina and Ascari both won or at least earned Italian GP podiums in the early 50s. Who else? De Angelis? Patrese? Musso? Villoresi? Taruffi? I really don't know. I'll guess 15.

Serafini shared the 2nd place Ferrari with Ascari in 1950.

Farina was a winner in 1950.

Ascari scored a 2nd in 1950.

Fagioli took 2nd four times.

Bonetto shared the 3rd place Alfa Romeo with Farina in 1951.

Villoresi finished 2nd with Ferrari, 1952.

Castellotti scored a 2nd for Ferrari in 1956.

Bandini finished 3rd for Ferrari, 1964.

Scarfiotti scored a win for Ferrari, 1966.

Alboreto scored 2nd for Ferrari, 1984.

Patrese was 2nd for Alfa-Romeo, 1985

Fisichella 3rd for Renault, 2005

Does this question go back only to 1950, or does it go back to the first Italian GP?

Are you satisfied with a wild guess, or do you prefer names and data?
