Motorstorm PS3 - Mega Thread

lol, how long does it take to finish?

80% of the races i can do on 1st go. 15% in about 3 goes and 2 races took me an hour each . Rain God Messa in a Buggy up against heaps of other buggies and Tenderizer on an ATV agaisnt mudboggers, racing trucks and big rigs. Both of these took me at least an hour each. 1 or 2 others took about 15 - 30mins, but cant remember them off hand. Apart from that it didnt take too long. I could probably finish it in a day now. Especailly because i know all the tracks. all the 1st half are really easy as the AI leave you alone and dont drive aggresive but the last few you really have to know the tracks and boost at the right places.

Anybody else finish this game?

Great game for sure one of the best PS3 games. I think that turbo boost is to big of a factor but then again the game is built around the use of turbo.
Would really like to see a true off-road game based on this format except with turbo (nitro boost) etc. being much less of a factor. Some Baja type of courses with perhaps dozens of differnt paths per track. Mud is great along with ruts etc. I am not sure if any of the courses have water since I just bought the game yesterday. Anyway hopefully Motorstorm will be a huge sign of things to come from future racing games.

"MotorStorm update in May"
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=75814

"Dirty racer MotorStorm will be pulling into the pits in May for a catalogue of minor fixes.

The most significant change is to the player ranking system, where some people were apparently exploiting a bug and being falsely listed. The cheats. And because of this Sony and Evolution are having to reset the entire leadberboard after the fix to ensure it's fair and accurate.

Online stability is also being looked at, and Game Status is being added list in the lobby so that you join games and race more promptly. There's also going to be an auto-start feature added, fixing a start time for races to cut-down on waiting around in lobbies.

Those of you who are popular will now enjoy a bigger friends list of 50 people, and there's a flurry of other minor bug fixes and tweaks.

MotorStorm launched alongside the PlayStation 3 in Europe. It's a great big muddy mash-up of a racing game where you'll smash and crash and bash and dash."

Colin McRae DIRT is coming soon and will offer Baja racing with more probably more realism and less arcadeyness aswell as basically all other off road sports...

Motorstorm v1.2 updates....

For its next official patch, slated to release on June 7, the game will add a brand new Time Attack mode that allows users to race against their own ghost in an effort to best their most efficient times.

As an added bonus, the fastest ghosts will automatically be uploaded to the global leaderboards so that others can compete against them. Additionally, phantom opponents aren't limited to just one -- in total players can race against seven different specters in a single race; these ghosts include ones made by the user, the previously-mentioned "best time" ghosts, or special developer-made "Evolution Ghosts" made up of a range of different skill levels.

More improvements...

* Game List Improvement - "Game Status" is now displayed with the game list in the online lobby making it easier to find a session where you'll be able to join and race promptly.

* Host Identification - Within the game lobby the host is now clearly identified by a 'host' icon visible to all players and updated during host migration.

* Boost Exploit Fix - A bug involving the boost system that allowed a player to use boost in an exploitative manner has been resolved.

* Buddy List Size - This has been updated to support up to 50 friends.

* Text Cut-off fix for SD - When playing in standard definition, all messages will now display as intended.

* Improved Stability Online - Online gameplay stability has been improved.

* Audio Fix - All known issues with 5.1 / 7.1 surround have been fixed. Audio issues within the front-end have been resolved.

* Player Ranking Reset - Players were found to be ranked incorrectly due to a bug. Because of this all online rankings will be reset and the ranking system should now function correctly (Evolution and Sony apologies for this measure but it will result in a fairer and more stable system).

* Auto-Start - Races will be forced to start after a fixed countdown which should dramatically reduce the waiting times in lobbies. Hosts may delay this countdown up to three times.

* Save Data Corruption - When quitting the game using the PS button it was possible to corrupt the save game data. This will no longer occur.

* Lobby Information - Upcoming track and current lap details will be displayed in lobbies.

* Vehicle Damage Reset - When restarting a single-player race during a death camera the damage wasn't always reset at the start of the next race. This has now been resolved.

* Missing Audio - Audio effects were missing from the death camera, these have now been reinstated.

* Name Tag Toggle - Added ability to switch the player name tags on / off during online races using a single button press (L1).

This is what i love about nex gen.

Games can now improve with downloads just like PC counterparts. No longer stuck with the same buggy game, never to be fixed.

Of course not every game will be like this but im sure the big main ones will be.

Dirt made me sick, seriously I just didn't think it was good or any fun. It looks good, but that's only because it has an extremely well done cockpit view. Everything else, as far as I've seen thus far (from the PC version) was simply not up to snuff.

I don't see any sense in comparing Motorstorm to DIRT. They're two completely different types of games. One's a sim racer, the other's an arcade smash-em-up. I just had to explain this to an ijit on IGN, I didn't think I'd have to do it here.

Anyway, I just picked up Motorstorm. Finally.. hehe. It's been a long week at work already, so I probably won't get to seriously play it until this weekend sometime. Rocks pretty hard from what I've played so far, though. :)

IGN
June 13, 2007 - When it was released in March, MotorStorm cut a huge muddy path of racing carnage across the PlayStation 3. Set in the off-road tracks of a large desert festival in Monument Valley, players had access to seven vehicle types, ranging from big rigs to dirt bikes. With the only rules of the competition being that there are no rules, racers could bump and crash their way to the finish line. However, one of the largest complaints lodged against the game was the limited number of tracks that players could fly through as they tried to collect the event tickets during the game.

Watch that curve -- it's a long ways down to the bottom. All of that is about to change, as Evolution Studios and Sony Computer Entertainment will be rolling out new downloadable content for MotorStorm in the next few months. The PlayStation Store will soon provide brand new game features, modes and vehicles for MotorStorm racers to take into Monument Valley. It will even unlock new festival passes, such as the Coyote Revenge VIP Pass that will give completely new tracks and races. Instead of simply telling you minor details about the upcoming content, we managed to get a video interview with Paul Hollywood from Evolution Studios, who breaks down some of the new items that you'll be able to download. Check it out below, and as soon as info on the upcoming content becomes available, we'll get it posted.

I don't have a PS3 yet but I thought you might like to know anyway.👍

No, it's not available. Apparently, they found a last-minute bug that killed the system's network, so it's been delayed. Possibly only a few weeks, but no one knows for sure.

Has the Time Attack mode been added yet? if so how would I go about downloading it?

Quite strange as we have it in PAL land.

I downloaded both the 1.2 update and Time Attack mode this evening and it seems to be working fine. I've tried the TA mode and viewed the on-line leaderboards, also ran a few races on-line and have to say that the lobby changes have made a huge difference. Simply being able to see the status of each race before picking it and having a race start timer are a massive improvement (not to mention the fix on boost cheats).

Hmmm, I've just put in MotorStorm and it dies on me... the screen goes black and the PS3 falls silent and I have to reset... :grumpy: I don't know where to get the 1.2 update either...

You get the 1.2 update simply by going online with Motorstorm (as in to race online), once you do it will prompt you to download it (you may recall you had to do the same the first time you went online for the 1.1 update).

To get around this, delete off your 1.1 update data, load up Motorstorm and download the 1.2 update and then download the Time Attack.

Should be fine after that (and then you can kick my ass on-line - no seriously I suck at this game - but I do love it).

So has anyone in the States tried downloading the Time Attack Mode off the UK PS Store to see if it works with the US version without update 1.2?

Has anyone else had issues with the D-Pad and some buttons cutting out while selecting a vehicle? It has happened twice so far to me.

Not had this problem, but will report anything if I find it, I did notice the loading time for the actual cars and bikes and stuff, is a little quicker or is it just me. :dunce:

Yeah, turning the system off and back on has fixed the problem. I don't thing it's a Bluetooth (though that has happened once or twice) issue since not all the buttons are gone and it only happens in Motorstorm.

I have a question.

Is there any particular advantage of selecting one vehicle over another within the same class? Let's say Racing Trucks. Is one any better than another, differences in speed, toughness, etc? Or is it pretty much a question of preference and which one looks cooler?

Someone made a great thread regarding this, with full stats. Its in the ps3 sections but I dont know where.

There it is, its a good and very helpful thread, I've not had much time to play MS as of yet, I'm still only on ticket 3 or something. TBH I'm still playing RR7 and Oblivion, and every time I think I've made some ground on RR7 it just gets bigger and more races that are really hard pop up.

RR7 is a good game IMO, its very fun. UFRA(?) events are a nice addition but no new cars or tracks.
