I so need this but it's such a lot of money! Have already shown the wife Raudi's video and she didn't flip so it may be possible over the coming months. I currently have a Benq 24" PC monitor and can pick up a couple of decent iiyama 24" monitors for a little under £300, so quite reasonable. Can anyone confirm that a 3 x 24" setup will not be a let down considering I currently use a 40" Sony Bravia.

And just to add a big thanks to all that have contributed to this thread 👍

IMHO 3x23 is superior to 1x32 or even 1x40 as I recently tested out a Sony 40HX800 3D LCD, a Panasonic 42GT25 3D Plasma and an LG 32LD450 LCD with my Setup. If the Multi Monitor support had not been added in the latest patch, I was going to keep the 32" LG as I preferred it for a 3ft viewing distance attached to the Obutto cockpit.

It is a substantial investment, but with 3 screens the immersion is so much more convincing and being able to look to apex is a big plus!

In SPECTATOR mode the only options for views are the timing screen, which is the same that is in B SPEC and the TV Replay and race info again, same as B SPEC mode.

I guess having a realtime replay and timing screen would be good for groups of fans racing together at one location and with others watching.

Hehe, didn't realise about the arcade.

Yes the real-time replay and timing sounds really nice. But I guess when you have 3 monitors you rather use them for more views. Wonder if you have 5 screens, you could keep the 2 extra for live timing and replay?

IMHO 3x23/24 is superior to 1x32 or 1x40 or 1x42 - Thanks to Fry's liberal return policy and some killer sales I recently tried out a Sony 40HX800 3D LCD ($799), a Panasonic 42GT25 3D Plasma ($699) and an LG 32LD450 LCD ($349) with my Setup.

If the Multi Monitor support had not been added I was going to keep the 32" LG as I preferred it @3 ft viewing distance attached to the Obutto.

It's a huge inverstment but I go to track days as well, so in the grand scheme of things it's cheaper than a new set of Race tyres for my car - LOL :sly:

With 3 Screens - the immersion is so much more convincing and being able to look to apex is a big plus!

Thanks Raudi, put my mind at rest. Just got to decide if it's best to buy new PS3's or second hand now.

Hi, I have 3x iiyama 2407HDS.
Great screen for the price and slim borders makes it easy to overlap the centre screen.

I would agree with Raudi about a large single screen. I also owned 1080p projection using a 80" screen at 5ft distance, which was nice. However triple screens is more impressive and immersive. I remember back when Forza 1 released and I ran triple Samsung 19" TFTs which were £500 each so things are not so bad now at all.

Got a 60GB PS3 at the weekend.
Although £190 CEX do offer a YEAR warranty so made since to get from them than buy from an online auction etc for a bit cheaper and its also cheaper than a new slim one. Plus you can trade in against it.

Also tried this with two screens tonight.. whilst I await the third PS3!

Looks good but noticed that when in Online lobby mode, and racing in a track editor generated map, it's a no go!

So this wont be useful in online modes when were racing on randomly generated maps! Which I have to say i had a ball with the other night, some of the tracks it through up I wish I could have saved they were excellent.

p.s. if someone finds a way to make this work please correct me :)

I might be forced to get a few people together and start having weekly multiscreen parties.. :) I can't justify buying 2 more PS3s just for myself though, I wish it would output to multiple displays at a lower res.

Could I do two monitors (my tv and my PC Monitor).
And how long would that take to set up and put back.

It works for online races, just not for "Track Editor" tracks, right?

I wonder if it would be possible to buy 3 pc monitors and remove the casing around them to eliminate the big edge between the monitors... Or take off the frame and modify them so that the edges that will go into another monitor will be removed and then use something like silicone as isolation. That would be really cool!

Great multi monitor videos!

I noticed most setups seem to use a monitor angle of around 150 degrees instead of the recommended 120 degree angle which can make the side monitor images look a little distorted though.

Never been a fan of cockpit cam because the FOV is just too wide (to try and frame the dash and steering wheel within the available TV space). The Logitech G25 I use in is my hands - not up on the screen. You feel like you're sitting in the back seat driving the car from cockpit camera. The triple screen setup just seems to exacerbate the problem.

The dash cam (or bumper cam as it's known) looks hands-down the best way to play with a multi monitor setup. Seriously considering investing in a triple monitor setup now.

That looks too extreme compared to many rigs or PC configurations. Compare it to their 5 screen diagram. The two options would show the exact same content on each and the diagram for 5 screens looking at the centre 3 screens seems more the norm. Most triple screen cockpits like the Rennsport have the outer monitors almost in horizontal line with the steering wheel. This is evident on FM3 setup at E3 in 2009 and the recent 5 screen GT5 video posted plus numerous others I have seen.

Ideally you want your setup no matter how big the screens you use to work with that principle. The simple reason is that then your seating position will be in good alignment and distance for a non straining peripheral view. To have multiscreens with bigger screens and sit so close to them that you only see 1 and a bit screens at a time may be what some want but thats defeating the purpose.

GT5 allows you to alter the cockpit FOV to your own desired taste. This determines how close and how much of the cockpit you see. Additionally you can then also select the FOV feature that offers STANDARD/NARROW/NARROWER to further alter the FOV.

Im currenty experimenting with settings because no matter what size of screens you use what they show will be the same 16:9. Its finding a FOV that looks realistic but at the same time with some cars cockpits ensuring the borders in between the screens dont split the cockpit up on mirrors or somewhere that makes the cockpit look a bit weird.

So far using something around the 100% - 95% setting and on some cars and then using "NARROW" instead of "STANDARD" gets around the screen borders ruining some cars cockpits. Different cars work better than others and of course its down to personal preference.

Ive decided to do a full blown review including an extensive guide with "good photos" and maybe some videos. Will have it up for the weekend guys.

That would be very much appreciated and I look forward to it 👍

Looking forward to your review Mr. Latte, I will be getting a triple screen set-up, but probably a year or so from now. This thread has me very excited.👍

Ok, those of you with triple display setups - do you have to have ips displays? I don't think I'm going to set it up @ 120 degrees. I don't sit that close. This would be my 1st choice but it's too pricey.. .

Any recommendations for other monitors with thin bezels?

I prefer IPS displays for gaming and specifically ordered (3) NEC EA231WMI ($260.99 @Amazon) for my Multi Monitor setup since it is a 1080P IPS monitor 👍

Been tweaking my Multi Monitor settings to work best for my setup and viewing distance:

Monitor Frame Border - 8%

Angle of Screen Curvature - 35

Adjust Angle of View - 80%

New Video (Lap 1 - Cockpit / Lap 2 - Bumper Cam)

Nice video...

I think that car is one of the cars with a graphics bug.
Ive found 3 so far that seem to show a clipping of what I think is the helmet supports on the drivers seat.

They appear on the outer screens with the FOV set to 100 and also at 95. So I set those cars to "Narrow" to avoid that issue.

At 80 FOV I found it was too close cutting too much from the view of some steering wheels.
Noticed on above video your wheel display was only visible under braking with that car as an example of what Im referring to.

It is worth tinkering with though as everyone will have their own preferences and some may want to see more of the wheel and others have a closer FOV.

* The FOV only effects the "Cockpit" view as well making no changes to other viewpoints

Hello Raudi,

Congrats on the setup!!!

Can you please test the multi-monitor and the Playstation Eye and tell me if it works ok? The head-tracking is one of the features that I like most when driving to practice...

Appreciate the feedback and looking forward to your review!

My main focus has been to get the edges to line up better, it's still a work in progress - hopefully some others will post their settings as well to compare with!

I had a PS EYE but returned it after it was determined that it only worked in practice mode....I doubt that has changed with the latest patch but it sure would be nice if it worked in A spec or online!

So wish there was a way to do this with 1 PS3 and 3 monitors... I wouldn't mind shelling out for a few TVs or monitors, but 3 PS3's is a bit much...

Aww well that kills a lot of the draw for me...

Yes, it hasn't changed, still only working in arcade mode, but hopefully it will work some day.

That's why I wonder if it works in a multi-screen scenario.

Thanks anyway!

No you don't since this will make you want 3 PS3 anyways. First I tried to run triple screen on my old PC with a 9800GT card. All this did was cause me to buy a new PC to handle triple screens in order to run games at a good frame rate.

P.S I don't like using TrackIR with triple screen on PC. It's not needed since it's more natural to turn your eyes instead of your head anyways.

Does anybody know on a multi-screen setup if the individual TV/ps3 have independent sound? Example: Will the left most screen project sound if you are passing/passed on the left and vice versa on the right?

I'm looking into setting up a multi-screen for gt5 and this makes a difference if I buy a monitor with no speakers or a HDTV which has integrated sound.

thanks!
