Muscle Cars?

lol i got my monte for $750 lol canadian.. i also beat a few 305s and many civics before i started having heating problems.. i'm acctually trying to blow the engine cuz its just a v6 at the moment.. i hate it.. i need more like i said 400 or 454 i know it'd fit and work well too cuz i've seen in, the 87 and 88 monte carlo ss came with a 454 in it. HEHEHEHEHE

that cars only got a 3800 in it:eek: man i fell for ya. i drove a regal with a 3800. the time it spun the tires was when i was trun'n on a dirt road. it was very slow. i think you should go with a 383 for your monte. i really think you should stay away from the big blocks. the sbc's should make enough power for that monte. what tranny do ya plan on use'n?

not sure... still alot of planing.. the reason i want big block is i'm trying to stick to a monte carlo ss engine... also i love the sound of a big block.. they sound so good

yes and those were frigin fast too.. my friend has one with a 305 HO and yikes it can beat a 327 vette.. i was surprised.. but 87-88 had the 454 and i'm kinda wanting that

thats a lot of work. the small block way just seems so much easier to me. i mean a semi built 383 should move that monte just fine and it'd be a pretty good sleeper too. as for the tranny i'd go with a turbo 400 overdrive tranny with a 2500-3000 stall on it cuz id put a huge cam in that motor so id get that super-dupper cool V8 sound.

well the car is just gonna be white.. with the original pin stripes on the side like it is now.. i will have a nice cowl and ss nose cone.. and then the spoiler on the back.. but the white will still make it look like a sleeper till you get close... i was even thinkin of doin ghost flames.. that'd be sweet.. just off the front wheel wel

Well, you guys are trying to compare new Muscle to Old. Its Beauty and Beast.

Beauty: Sleek lines, powerful engines, really refined. Ex. Viper, Corvette (new), Saleen's, Camaro, etc...

Beast: Somewhat Chizled, tuff look, loud powerful engines, kickass exhaust note. Ex. Charger's, Camaro's (old), Chevelles, etc...

no no no... if you watch american muscle car they even say although cool the new viper is not a real muscle car.. like i said.. i the 60's the cars were atleast 350 hp and got up to a good 450+hp stock without any computer crap... don't get me wrong i like computers i loved the Buick Grand National anything that can give a 427 corvette a run for its money is a great car.. but once again there is computer stuff on it that just screws everything up if you want to work on it... the average joe off the street couldn't work on one of them... also.. get this the viper has a computer chip that ups the hp i mean come on.. thats so dumb and cheap... if i can't go to a junk yard and find a part to put on my car that beef it up a tonne after cleaning it up its not a real muscle car.. cuz muscle cars were made for people that didn't have much money but wanted to race their ass hairs off.

Edit: You posted a picture. Doesn't do anything for me, I'm afraid. But to each their own.

for 750$ you could get a monte carlo in decent condition, they are pretty cheap.

the car is a 1981-1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, base model. 200" long, 108" wheelbase, 72" wide. around between 3200 and 3400lbs. i'll just list most of the engines.

V8 5.0L gas - Chevrolet (normal and high output)
V6 3.8L gas - Buick (1981 had a turbo option)
V6 4.3L gas - Chevrolet (or was it a V8? I forget.)
V8 4.4L gas - Chevrolet 267ci

V8 5.7L Diesel - Oldsmobile
V8 4.4L Diesel - Oldsmobile 262ci

this is a great site to learn about 1970-1988 monte carlos.

LOL, instead of including the link in my post i just read the whole site, hahaha.

no. the 4.3 ltr. motor is a V6. its a 350 with the last 2 cylinders choped off. the 305 is a 5.0 ltr GM motor.

there are two 4.3Ls, one is a V8 and one is a V6, which is the one you're thinking of.

the V8 4.3L i believe is a de-bored 350. L99 it's called, i think.

I don't have a car, i'd like to get a cadillac of some sort, though.

305ci is 5.0L, the 4.3L V8 is 262ci, iirc.

okay okay.. i want to hear all your guys dream cars.. i have more then one so send a pic and tell all.. though i know its hard, try to keep it at one if you can.

 I just found out i'm still a junior member:lol:

Yeah, it would add HP. It controls the Fuel, traction control (If I remember correctly the new Vipers have TCS) and other things. Anyone can work on a car that is controlled by a computer. I can. You just need the right equipment (which doesnt always cost a pretty penny). The ECU can tell you what's wrong and you can fix it :)...

wheres the fun in that lol.. jk.. yeah i know.. i just like the old classic muscle more.. and back then there was no computer stuff in cars like that.. i just think its not fair that i can't afford to ever own a viper either.

Yeah I know what you mean.

There are some tricks of the trade that still work. If you have a car that is misfiring but you dont know what cylinder it is, there is a trick my dad taught me. Take out one of the spark plugs and turn on the car. If the car runs differently without it, that cylinder if fine. If it runs the same without it, you have found your misfiring cylinder (dont know if you guys already know this trick, you probably do)...

i like older cars because of the sound, look, and there easy to work (most are), but new cars are nicer, smoother riding and easier to drive. my dad tought me a trick on how to clean a ford carb. you cross to of the spark plug wires and rev up the motor. the motor back fire out the carb blowing all the dirt out. don't know if it will work on carbs but i know it works on ford carbs.
