My T500RS "Even Stiffer" Brake Mod

I will be using a calibrated pressure sensor to measure several different types of pedals in the near future and will post the results in the "sim brake throughts" thread when I am done.

However, with regard to this, you might want to take another look at the orientation of the bushings in the pedal... Thank you for the graph though as it confirms what we are feeling even though the bushing orientation is different. A steady progressive feel to the brake pedal.

While I haven't measured it, it does FEEL quite nice and works very well. So far so good.

My sentiments exactly, and I own both. Although, in all fairness, this is partially because my V.1s have the tuning kit installed, whereas the V.2s have no counterpart from Fanatec yet.

Also, The brake pedal travel is a less configurable on the V.2s because the brake arm pivot is mounted one notch higher by default than the V.1s due to the RC shock. The V.1 tuning kit also provided alternate length/hardness foam inserts and metal rods for the brake.

Some V.2 owners have stated that the feel is improved by substituting the spring in the RC shock with a stiffer one, I have yet to try that.

I didn´t get the tuning kit for the V1 but I believe I got some extra rod or rubber sent by Thomas. Anyway my little tweaks did help a lot. Running with damp socks did solve this slippery as soap feel and still let you dance around the throttle a bit that did wonders actually. Brake pedal I am quite fine with and I can now match the lap times on the T500RS. Confusing times this which do I preferr lol.

Just to say thanks, the bracket you sent made it all the way to me in London. It looks miles better than my old credit card that was starting to bow out. 👍

I've had some significant time with the brake mod and can still say I love it. It's so good that I don't even think about it when I'm using it. With the Thrustmaster 'Real Brake Mod' I was constantly thinking about how I didn't like the feel and has the sensory reminder every time I felt that metal grinding sensation, the last thing I should be thinking about while racing. I still switch back and forth between the 78 and 73 to get a feel for which I like best (whichever I am using at the time is the one I like best:)). I will probably stick with the 73 a little more going forward and put the plate on eventually. Are there any others with two different durometer bushings? What are your thoughts?

You who run with single bushings how do you get them to stay in place? I noticed mine like to turn around. If I am lucky in vertical position and then it still performs quite well. Honestly I have only noticed it when I pulled them out but I recon since at the end of the travel the bushing is pushed down when in vertical mode I would get less max resistance perhaps.

I've never had mine move on me but I put it in in the verical position. Is there a reason you start yours horizontal? It seems to me vertically it matches up perfectly with the brake arm and the forces that are being placed on it.

I put my bushing in vertical position when I first got it, but it kept always turning horizontal so I gave up playing it in vertical position. I didn't notice any difference and have been playing it in horizontal position since day1. I love this mod.

I think I get what you guys are saying... Strange that it would rotate like that? though I guess it wouldn't matter much.

So you still have it in there so the hole in the bushing is being squished closed, it's just that your bushing is basically rotated 90 degrees from what I show in my photo. Correct?

My only fear in having it horizontal is that it may buckle and flop over so the hole is facing the pedal. If that makes sense.

Yes correct.

Easy solution would perhaps be two 60 bushings. Would these be significantly stiffer then one 73? Wonder about drilling easy to keep the holes circular doing that?

You can try finding to 60a bushings though they seem tough to find. Maybe you could try just cutting two pieces of sponge (like a kitchen sponge) and putting them on either side of the bushing... that might work. You wouldn't noticed whether or not the sponge was there.

Did another session. Checked back and yes it was perfectly horizontal again. I never noticed the switch or anything though. Gonna leave it like that and see what happens :)

For the guys who are having the problems with the bushings turning, do you have the real brake mod plate in the position that Pilmat shows here, the long throw position, or do you have it closer to the brake? Just to be clear I'm asking about the T500's plate, not bashers.

Just got these from Mrbasher. Ran around some nascar short tracks for an hour and can honestly add to the others that this is a great mod on a couple of different levels. One is just mechanically, the spring binding feeling is gone. And this improves the mental part of using the brakes to no end; now its just pure sensation of applied pressures with nothing else present. Like going from AM radio to FM. If you have the t500, youre gonna like this mod.

RipTide makes a bunch of different durometer bushings, one of which is 60a. They have shown info on bushings down to 45a but I don't see any on their site. I will contact them and see what they offer.

45a is EXTREMELY soft, like... taffy lol

I emailed riptide about getting some sub 60a for the heck of it. :D Wish me luck.

Also... excellent avatar pic!

LOL, I can guarantee most here were in strollers when that was taken. Old school tracker trucks!

No way I would have imagined using bushings like this back then. LOL.

Nice! RipTide has 4 different 60 durometer bushings:

67.5 a
65.5a
62.5a
60.a

RipTide responded and stated that they thought my application of the bushings was very interesting and will be contacting me. :) I also have another bushing type I am going to try out this evening.

Here is the new bushing I want to try out. It's quite a bit larger at 1.6" diameter (the skate bushings are 1") Thus it will require some fiddling with the mounting. However, I'm hoping that it will facilitate a little longer throw. We shall see.

At the end I squish it closed. It does take a bit of effort, but it's not horrible. I'm curious to stick it in the pedal..
