The chase got put in after Kenseth won in 2003 just 1 race but won the title..

While I am not a huge fan of the chase I am also not a big fan of the champion being decided 2 to 4 races before the season is over and evident 4 to 6 races before the close. Why watch the rest of the season at that point? Before you accuse me of not being a "twu race fan", I have been watching NASCAR since before the first ever flag to flag coverage of the Daytona 500 back in '79 and had tickets to Indy for ever back in the 70's and 80's. I am not sure what the best way is and nothing is going to satisfy everybody, but the old system sucked worse than the chase.

People aren't watching the rest of the season now, and it seems to me that it is because people don't like NASCAR artificially changing the Championship results so that they are closer (which the success rate of that even happening is mixed) just as much as it is because the last 10 races that they build all of the hype for are all generally boring events. If my favorite driver doesn't make it in the Chase, and as a result they basically ignore him for nearly a 4th of the season to focus on the drivers that did (because, to be frank, in terms of how they've set it up since they implemented it anyone outside of the Chase is basically irrelevant now unless they wreck someone who is; which is another glaring issue with it that makes it dumb as a concept and comparison to other sports moot), why should I bother watching the rest of the season?

The only way that the Chase may be changed is if Truex or Harvick win the title but do not win any races.
Back when it first was announced, I recall a column in Car and Driver saying that all that would need to happen is a Junior fan running up the numbers in his head and finding out that in the old system Junior would have won the Championship. Which is increasingly unlikely as time goes on, but could also do it.

I thought NASCAR said Matt wasn't the reason why the chase wasn't implemented.
He wasn't the main reason, but his championship was definitely a factor into it.

I hate the argument about new system vs old, regardless of the system people will race as needed to win championships.

I'm an Aussie, so I don't get to see every single little show or report or anything concerning NASCAR, however, even with the little we get I still feel as though the sport is too dramatic.

The Chase in my opinion is useless, all it does is take away legitimacy from the competition.
It becomes all about 12 drivers (and Danica), dodging the other 30 cars on the track.

Admittedly, I watched Chicago after watching the V8 Supercars, which may of made it a bit worse for me.

The V8's don't get pumped full of drama, the drama comes from the race itself.
Sure, there's a championship to be won, which is currently being very closely contested by 5 drivers, but that isn't always the focus.
It's just 30 odd drivers having a good race.

Oy! I know someone here that won't be happy about this:

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2012-09-21/kurt-busch-furniture-row-racing-regan-smith-out-new-hampshire
Furniture Row general manager Joe Garone said in an email Friday that his team is interested in Busch but that Busch has talked with other teams as well. Richard Petty Motorsports is among the organizations that has not signed its drivers for next season and also could be a candidate for Busch.
When asked Friday if he would be back with Furniture Row next season, Smith said, "I don't believe so."

If they sign Kurt, that will be their last season in the series.

Look what he did for Phoenix Racing this year.

The thing is that Smith seems like the right kind of driver for that team. I don't know if he's the fastest guy they could hire (it's always hard to tell when the team's budget is small), but he almost never makes mistakes that cause crashes. Bristol a few weeks ago was the first time in a long, long while that I remember him being at fault for an accident. Given the team's limited resources, shouldn't they stick with him as a guy who knows his limits and will avoid needlessly tearing up equipment?

Well they are banking on Kurt running closer to the front more often or winning a race or two. The issue I have is Regan moved there to be more helpful in the program and yet they aren't exactly jumping at resigning him.

I know Finch took huge chance with Kurt that hasn't paid off as hoped but I think he would have had similar issues anyway whoever he put in that car. It's just the talent out there and quality of the team.

Finch will and always has been pretty much the same car as he has now as far as equipment/team and never grew. Front Row actually has hired some of the right people BUT they lack that little extra to get over the mid packers. They get EGR engines, RCR chassis and a big help is SHR pit support, which Finch might have Hendrick parts but no support to help a little.

I really wish they would possibly even join forces, to have 2 car based team to keep both drivers. They won't set the world on fire but they could be in top 20 if they pulled their money together.

Phoenix Racing is dead after this season because of Kurt.

Finch had no problems in previous seasons with any of the drivers that were in the car. They didn't destroy the equipment on a weekly basis, and he even had sponsors before Kurt joined the team.

If I'm honest, James sort've would be in this position no matter who he put in the car. The problem isn't the torn up race cars, its the fact that his entire fleet is obsolete next year. Even if say he would have signed Almarola, it wouldn't have made much of a difference other then much less wrecked cars. The moment Miccosukee left as sponsor pretty much spelled the end for that team from the start, the only reason they could still race was because for a while the cars still remained the same and only had minor changes (The Spoiler change and Splitter change) and it basically kept his fleet relevent. 2013 essentially means a whole new car and essentially would mean a whole new fleet, a fleet James simply can't afford regardless of how many cars have/haven't been torn up.

It most likely would have been better if Kurt wasn't wrecking equipment in a sponsorless car and forcing Finch to pay more than he had expected to originally.

Trucks were done at Kentucky Friday night, Modifieds were done yesterday at New Hampshire, and Nationwide finished their race at Kentucky yesterday. Now... Cup will be ready to rock at New Hampshire. Loudon ready to get loud with the roar of 43 NASCAR Cup cars. Try not to yawn.

Good luck to all teams and drivers in today's race, and congratulations to all other winners from other NASCAR races this weekend.

Bowyer is pretty strong here
Gordo getting a little slippery
Go Kaz go, show the 48 who is boss 👍

The race was so exciting today that I watched football instead, only checking in periodically to see who was leading. :sly: My prediction at the start of the season that Jimmie Johnson will win his 6th championship still stands unless he gets some of Jeff Gordon's horrible luck, which of course won't happen. :grumpy:

Silly fans, There's no such thing as exciting racing in the Chase.

Exactly what I did too. Only ended watching a total of 20 laps or so.

Top Gear on YouTube won me over, though I did have the race up in the background to check on my fantasy picks.

For all of the complaints about 1.5-mile tracks, is New Hampshire the track most universally considered boring by just about every fan? It really seems to have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

My Birthday won me over so I missed everything :dopey:
