Why do I keep hearing of guys like Johnson and Gordon when there are tons of other guys worth mentioning?

I think that Mark Martin should race in one last full time season with MWR next year. He still drives up front and can still contend for wins (and even a championship). Probably one of the most underrated drivers nowadays.

Biffle and Kenseth are done for the season. They are too far back to catch back up to the leaders in the points standings, and are not consistent enough to keep up with the others. Even if they win 3-4 of the rest of the races (which is nearly impossible), they still won't be able to win the championship.

My pick to win at Talladega is Clint Bowyer. He is one of the few drivers who seems to be unaffected by Talladega's unpredictability, and has won this exact race last year (finishing 2nd in the Spring race of 2011).

Anyone who isn't a chase driver is irrelevant to me.

Mark Martin is in no way "underrated".

The Roush Fords will have one last shot to get back in the game at Talladega. For the past 2 years their package at Superspeedways have been nearly unbeatable. Much like DEI's in the early 2000's.

Last superspeedway race with this garbage package that lacks an outside line, side drafting, and creates too big an air pocket between cars. Hopefully this will be solved with the new cars next year.

I doubt Mark will do another full season.

Why not? He's part of one of the best teams in NASCAR (Michael Waltrip Racing) and he's come close to winning on several occasions this year. If he can still be a contender for wins, he can still be a contender for the championship.

I do see him racing part-time for the rest of his career, however, and I don't think that Michael would want to field another car.

They're testing the 2013 cars at Dega tomorrow.

EDIT: Is it too late for Penske to reconsider switching to Ford?

Part of the reason he's doing well is because he actually gets time to rest in between races now.

His last year with Hendrick didn't go so well.

Let me just say quickly... I have a heck of a lot of respect for Mark Martin. Heck, he could race in NASCAR up to age 65. Or maybe even 80. I still think he's one of the greatest drivers to never become Cup champion. I wish him the best regardless.

I guess thanks to Gran Turismo 5, I've begun to have a different perception on races at Daytona and Talladega. Those tracks are fun since it's full speed all the way around. However, victory on those tracks can be almost as difficult as trying to win on almost any Formula 1 Grand Prix race. Trying to balance between getting into the draft and making timely passes can be very tough. And of course, you don't want to tag somebody's quarter panel and end up inducing someone into a spin. That said, anyone can really win at tracks like Talladega. Who accurately predicted Trevor Bayne would win last year's Daytona 500?

I think whether you love or loathe NASCAR, there's a reason we follow NASCAR- it is as distinctive and as competitive as any other form of motorsport. You really have to hand respect to all the NASCAR drivers who strap in every race weekend and drive as hard as humanly possible to go for the win. So at least respect NASCAR even if you don't love it or somewhat like it. Pretty sure this weekend's action will be as chaotic as ever.

Because ridiculously stupid reason coming up.......

I wasn't going to say they would do bad in the Roush Fords. But I would hope RFR will step up their game next year, so Penske won't regret switching to Ford. Roger Penske seems to be getting pretty desperate to win his first sprint cup championship now. I guess he thinks Dodge cannot deliver so he decided to switch brands.

He thinks that basically being a manufacturer isn't going to win him a championship, which is why he switched

I see him switching for money reasons, it's alot cheaper to lease engines than build your own. RFR can do all the R&D instead of Penske doing his own.

He switched to Ford because he had no manufacturer competition to base his team performance off of with Dodge.

Then why is so hard to base his team's performance off of another team just with a different make?

Who would have predicted that Penske would be in the points lead, winning 2 of the first 3 chase races after announcing their departure from NASCAR earlier this year?

It was Penske's decision to use Ford for a better shot at a championship that led to Dodge's departure.
It would be weird if Dodge were to leave after winning a championship.

“It would be wonderful, almost a fairy-tale story, to leave on the highest note possible,” Gilles (president of Dodge’s SRT Motorsports) said.

Good luck to Brad, Penske and Dodge. 👍

The story I read was Penske wanted to continue with Dodge, but Dodge only would commit to a 1 year contract. Ford offered a multi year contract. Sounds like Penske wanted to sign it and be done, instead of having to renew/renegotiate yearly.

It wasn't so much about trying to win a championship. BK seems to be doing ok in his Dodge this year.

Penske said being associated with Ford "gives us a chance to make sure we can beat any team in NASCAR in the future.''

He said the move will allow Penske Racing to measure its success against Roush Fenway Racing, which is also associated with Ford, instead of competing as Dodge's lone Sprint Cup team.

"When we weighed the pluses and minutes of opportunities it was apparent to us we need to win NASCAR Sprint Cup championships,'' Penske said. "We've been trying to do it alone.

"But having the opportunity to benchmark with someone like Roush, who has been world-class as we saw with the performance last week with (Matt) Kenseth (winning the Daytona 500) and how good their cars are, we felt it was time to evaluate other options.''

Dodge is slated to unveil its 2013 Sprint Cup car next week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and it might not have any full-time teams to help hype the splashy debut.

NASCAR team owner Roger Penske will be moving to Ford as his manufacturer in 2013.

That lack of participation essentially was why Penske Racing chose to leave the manufacturer for Ford next season.
"This wasn't about money," team owner Roger Penske said Thursday in announcing his team would switch from Chargers to Fusions in 2013. "When you look at the strength of the multiple-car teams, we needed to have a benchmark."

With Dodge announcing the 2013 Charger I would think they would commit to more than just a 1 year deal with anyone, let alone Penske, but that just may be what Dodge was thinking about.
Maybe this will help the ALMS/Grand-Am SRT Viper ventures.

I think thats just Brad himself. He's tended to be the guy thats carried the weight of the team and make that car do better then it really should.

So isn't there supposed to be testing for the 2013 cup cars today?

^^ Yes sir. Ford just posted this:

Love the fact that there's even a license plate space on the back. I can see so many hilarious things done with that.

I'm sorry but that car is just soooo badass!! Any pictures of the other cars?

Yeah like Miller-lit, 5-Time, Smoke, Rocket etc. They could also put the # of the car on the plate instead of usually putting it on the taillights.
