Is there a reason why they went back to the spoiler and not the wing?
they went back to the spoiler because the cars were comingoff the ground during some collisions. The spoiler should help keep them grounded more.
(If you want to see a crazy video then youtube Carl Edwards wreck. Sorry but can't attach vids)

I always played on Test Course in GT4 with the LMP and Group C cars.
Hopefully it will be okay. However, is there any superspeedway where you turn right?

There was a fantasy track in Nascar Thunder 2003 called Tiburon. It was a huge track with no restrictor plates. Not that it really answers your question...

What makes me very worried with GT's exaggerated slipstream. NASCAR will get screwed up really bad if they don't fix it.

I don't know if this latest video (of NASCAR) is any indication of the state of GT5's drafting/slipstream effect but it doesn't seem quite as exaggerated. Of course, i wouldn't know until I actually able to drive in the game.

One interesting note are the lap times in the video which hovered around the 60 sec mark although at the end of the video, it could possibly be around the 54-55 sec mark (the video stopped before the clock). The fastest lap time in an actual Brickyard 400 race is around 50.099 while the qualification is at 48.311.

I've just deleted the thread than attempted to kick off a flame-war and tidied up the resulting mess.

The member that posted it has been warned about his conduct and I just want to remind everyone that this kind of behavior is simply not acceptable here at GT Planet.

Scaff

Considering most of you guys are huge fans of Nascar, I'm sure a lot of you have seen this video...

But after watching it I am absolutely JACKED to race Nascar in GT5!

If you haven't seen it I would make it full screen and just sit back...

Those guys are pretty disciplined racing that close to each other. I don't think that would be likely during random online events. Though i think top GTP'ers should be able to do so 👍

I too am a closet NASCAR fan...well I was until five stopped showing it on Monday nights :grumpy:

I do agree with people saying that GT5's representation of NASCAR seems to be...well...not entirely accurate. I don't ever believe that a NASCAR without any slipstream would do anything like 218mph on a straight. They need to tone down the baseline power of the engine and reduce the size of the track to decrease top speed and bring lap times in-line with real life.

Apart from that it'll be awesome :)

I don't think they need to tone down the power or change the track size. They need to increase the drag/decrease the draft. Sprint cup cars these days make ~950hp. So they better make ~950 in the game. (Around 460hp for plate tracks) Also I'm sure with tire effects on it will be alot better.

Another thing is that Nascar has a rule that says you can't shift on a lap that is already up to speed. Which I'm sure using that and not using the draft the speeds on the straights would be 201-204 in the game. Which is spot on.

NASCAR doesn't have a rule that says "No shifting on a lap that is up to speed", about 3 years ago, people were shifting at Pocono. The reason they don't shift is because the gear ratios are mandated to only about 2 choices per track.

I thought when Nascar came out with the gear rule drivers began shifting at certain tracks and Nascar said that was a no-no.

Maybe but it doesn't add up.

I mean if you increase drag to make the cars a little slower at the top-end then lap-times are going to increase and as someone already pointed out the lap times in that video are already a couple of seconds too slow. Increasing the drag would mean it would be slower.

This isn't a new problem to GT. The Ferrari F1 always seemed to have much better acceleration than real life...getting to over 200mph quicker than reality.

I don't know really...I want to play an authentic NASCAR experience. I don't like seeing these NASCAR's doing over 200mph when in the races I've watched the rarely do 200mph. The majority of the time they are doing about 170mph - 190mph.

There are enough tracks that the Cup cars reach and/or exceed 200 mph.
I do agree that the majority of the time it's 170 - 190.

And for a Cup car reaching over 212, it happened years ago (1987) and NASCAR started to implement the restrictor plate program to keep the cars near 200 mph.

If I remember correctly Rusty Wallace took a COT test run at Tallagega with no reistritor and went above 220 mph.

Here is the story link.

I'm glad you guys are interested and I also look forward to racing Cup cars. 👍
PD does have to do something about the draft though.

If I recall, Restrictor plate races see those speeds all the time.

According to a participant in the GT Academy(forget where it was posted), the draft was not bad. In the Nascar video, the draft appears to be more accurate to the real thing (although ironically in real life, the new restrictor plate has increased the closing rate )

Sorry for the confusion, I was talking about NASCAR races in general.
I was under the assumption that Vincent was also, maybe not.

As for the draft, I heard the same thing from the Academy participant. 👍

Yeah...I was talking in racing conditions. I've no doubt that a NASCAR can go over 200mph but in a race...well the races I have seen...they never have.

They can (and do) at all the 1.5+ mile tracks besides road courses. Just in the beginning of the run when the tires are fresh. Try driving on Daytona with 599/Zo6 (tuned if you want, doesn't matter) in GT5P with Sports S2/3 then trying the same thing with N3. Same thing happens during a Nascar race.

Just thought you guys might be interested in something I have planned for next year:

Keep an eye for this and many other new series I have planned with GTMSA.

Earth and I have something planned as well, that does something with Nascar. Perhaps we can talk about what your plans are, and our plans are. I would hate to compete for a small group of users who would run.

I'm pretty excited at this news, old as it may be. I'm quite the avid fan, as any other could tell from my name. And to the people dissing the old EA games, I found 2003-2005 to be pretty good, though the last thing they did well in the series was the UPS truck in 2006. The only glitch I ran into was this one race where all the AI just randomly ran out of fuel, not that the winner would complain. :sly: And RACECAR, expect to see me in that!

Why sure, I'd be open for that. I don't have anything solid at the moment so I wouldn't mind getting input from you guys.

:embarrassed: Ohhh Babyyy!!! I cant wait man i have never watched Nascar till i heard it was on GT5 now i am a junkie for Nascar.

Just think about 16 guys online (assumption) racing neck and neck at Daytona with the awesome graphics and physics of the GT series. 👍

...under the lights. Assuming that is something that will be included. :) Anyone watch the race at Daytona tonight? It definitely got me more excited for NASCAR in GT5, even though I wasn't a huge fan of it before.

Would be great. 30 car fields online would have been excellent but its far better then 6, thats for sure.

Anybody else hope they include a Polyphony livery car (or something similar)? I want to race against drivers I know, not as them.

Also, fingers crossed on not having identical cars in the same field.

I'll be honest, as a sports car club member, I've had my fair share of Nascar jokes in the past, but I'm actually really excited to see what GT can bring to the table. Now if we can add real headlights, I'd love to race a stocker at night at the 'ring. :)
