NASCAR in GT5!

I've looked over real NASCAR pitstops and I've seen 5-7 guys over the wall.

In the GT5P pit stops there is just 3 crewmembers over the wall. 2 changing tires, one filling the tank

They need at least one more to jack up the car

Tomorrow night Tony Stewart is hosting the "Prelude to the Dream" dirt race, and ESPN.com is hosting a live chat with he and teammate Ryan Newman at 12 PM EDT. Before you all flood the chat with GT5 questions, I'll show you the question I've submitted (maybe not verbatim; should have copied it :dunce:)...

Tony, I saw your Sprint Cup car in a trailer for Gran Turismo 5. What kind of involvement did you have in the inclusion of NASCAR in GT5, and can you give us any details about the game?

There's obviously no guarantee that he'll answer my question, but I figured it was worth a try! :D

It would be great if PD got some NASCAR drivers to help out with the physics of the COT

Another thing

Will they let us adjust individual corners of the car for the COT?

As you know, stock cars are not run symmetrical on ovals, and the ability to tune individual shocks, toe, camber etc is vital

Wonder if they will force restrictor plates at Daytona?

Ugh, I can't believe they wasted development time on this type of racing. What's next, Midgets? :yuck:

At least LeMans, WRC, and SuperGT are in it.

Ofcourse they will, kaz knows that they run different settings on each corner of the car. He didn't get GT to where it is today without knowing a thing or two about cars :sly:

After one hater is quieted down another one comes up. You guys are ridiculous.

Midget racing is VERY difficult, have you ever tried driving a car PURPOSELY sideways? I'm surprised GTP has this many Ignorant members.

Im also wondering if different tire compounds and How indepth tire changes will be. Like 1/4lb pressure changes. Will there be a pit radio?

It would be intense if you could have a teammate or friend be your crew chief and set your car up for the next stop and tell you your telemetry live.

Ah nascar brings so many more things to the table!

That's another thing NASCAR could bring to the table. Adjustments to the car at every pitstop. When you pit the pitboard should include tire pressure adjustments, etc etc. Maybe even the ability to just choose right sides? hehe

Also, what's NASCAR without yellow flags? lol

Whats NASCAR without a spotter?

Hopefully NASCAR forces PD to incorporate all of this, changes to the car at pit stops, flags, spotter

Oval racing is by default designed to be close. It's like pro-wrestling. It's designed to be excited all the time (which is what makes it boring). A true motorsport allows participants to have advantages over the competition. Be it a driver advantage, technological advantage, or a combination of both. It's like all true sports. Sometimes it's close and exciting, other times the margin of victory can be several seconds, or minutes. A 24 hour Nascar race would end with pretty much the same gaps they started with.

Anyways, it's just my opinion. I guess I forgot people are not allowed to have those anymore. Have fun turning left in your spec series.

I was most surprised when I first saw the NASCAR bits. I thought Polyphony Digital read my posts in regards to having custom racing suits when I saw a DuPont racing suit. I was immensely surprised that NASCAR would be featured in Gran Turismo, of all game series. I know what people are going to think here. Most racing fans who unconditionally love motorsports would say that NASCAR would be a great challenge for Gran Turismo. Most racing fans who couldn't give a rat's ass about NASCAR would probably say "we don't need no redneck racing in Gran Turismo!"

Here's a view of NASCAR in GT5 some of you may or may not agree with. Since more people care about the damage element than most of the rest of the game, no other place could you see some wicked crashes than in NASCAR. And if you're trying to market a game to feature crash damage for the first-time ever, you have to find one of the most hard-fought racing series in the world. And that would be NASCAR. Because more people like wrecked stock cars than actually seeing a decent race. Online battles could be huge for those looking for thrills that only NASCAR can provide.

For those of you who think that stock car racing is crap and that racing these in GT5 would be epic failure, let me tell you otherwise. Yes, stock cars weren't meant to be all-out racing machines like FIA GT or Formula One. There's a science to racing these machines effectively. You have to adjust your driving skills to properly handle courses with a stock car. At its very core, a stock car is a race car. All race cars have characteristics which set them apart from others. And more than likely, all have characteristics which make them worse than others. Don't look at this as "why did PD sell out to NASCAR (or "NASCRAP" to some)?" Stock car racing can be made fun and challenging. Just look at the Speedcar series in the Middle East.

These things nonwithstanding, I'm anticipating this experience to be a rather fun one. Those who just love racing will probably find something to love with NASCAR in GT. Can you trust a Japanese company to capture the very essence of NASCAR? Quite unlikely. Could you still find fun in racing this series? Absolutely. I still hated seeing my man, Jeff Gordon, get spun out in the E3 demo. What's wrong with spinning out that #88?

(OFF-TOPIC) You know how I sometimes keep referencing to NASCAR racing at Suzuka in 1996? Well, I found out that they raced Suzuka's East circuit for that Japanese exhibition. Always thought they did the full F1 course or something.

Not quite my friend. Go look back in time.

Many races used to be won by 2, 3,4 laps. F1 doesnt have that.

Take last weeks race as a lean to your favor. Jimmie Johnson runs from 6th to first in about 20 laps. Beating Tony Stewart by about 1 second. Most races now are won from about 1-10second leads. But dont be surprised to see the photo finish.

I also dont see how close exciting racing is boring? This motorsport is true by your means. Some teams Like Hendrick, Roush, Haas- Stewart have GIANT leaps about other teams. It just so happens to be that they are almost even.

NASCAR, awesome suits me, as i have driven one and had the privalage to be stood at Atlanta on the infield (yes i had an open pit pass) for the start, to see and especially hear the grid coming off turn 4 for the green flag is something i will never forget, truly awesome. Bring it on PD :) There seems to be something for everyone in GT5, well worth all the wait :)

Don't feed the trolls guys

It's obvious by the posts of some people that they haven't a clue about motor racing.

Earth I also wanted to say thank you for the way you argue in a sensible manner we need more people like you. And its nice to see another avid NASCAR fan like me :dopey:

Ok, I know this is way off topic, but why do they call it motor racing? No major sport uses motors, they use engines.💡

I'm glad to see NASCAR in GT, but part of me thinks that NASCAR and WRC will be like SuperGT, LeMans, and DTM in GT4. You know basically like a championship with a few courses, set up in the same GT style, which I have no problem with.

Motors & engines follow the same basic principle. To produce kinetic energy. Motor also comes from an engine type.
A motor car (automobile) has a starter motor and motors to drive pumps (fuel, power steering, etc) – but the power plant that propels the car is called an engine. The term 'motor' was originally used to distinguish the new internal combustion engine -powered vehicles from earlier vehicles powered by a steam engine (as in steam roller and motor roller).

I can't see a #42 in the trailer. :(

Looking at some of the screenshots I'm not impressed with the current 09 Gordon car :P

Someone used a Stroke and Outer glow to make the blue and yellow outline and when they save as .dds, .tga, or whatever file type they use, it compresses and the yellow disappears. Therefore they need to hire me to fix it! :P

From,
Chris.

I told you if GT is going to add NASCAR that they better do it right (for the fans's sake). And in this new interview he admits he knows little as it is a North American racing event and in Japan it's more European style.

Oh shut up, nitpicker!

Does this relate to painting NASCAR 09 cars that much?

Well it just irks me so much knowing how it should've been done :P

Hopefully it'll look better when the full game comes out. I'll play it regardless of Gordon's flames being incorrect or not :P

So far it looks good, the pit stops look like the real thing, except for only 3 crew members over the wall.

They even have authentic NASCAR officials watching each pit stop.

PD / KY does not cut corners

God I hope they add paint schemes for secondary sponsors (Jeff Gordon's National Guard, Pepsi etc)

Edit: Just noticed Dale Jr has both AMP and National Guard schemes.
