Well GTP, for the past few years I've been drooling over RX-7's and well I decided to buy one as my first car, and yes I know all about the rotary so don't call me a rotary n00b haha. Anyways the car is a 1988 RX-7 GX model, basically as base as it gets and no powersteering:)! I still haven't been able to get this giant smile off of my face though....Anyways about the car, the body is quite mint just the minor surface scratches you see on a usual almost 20 year old car. About the hood, the owner said the hood was starting to rust so he sanded it down and covered it with black primer thus the hood you see in the pics, no worries for me though. I'm planning on Buying a TII hood for this baby as soon as I can. The interior is also quite mint, the car has 289 000km's on it but it doesn't show it at all everything still looks pretty mint and the engine has 52 000km's on the rebuilt engine. Now off to the bad.. The car was running a few days before I bought her (hell I even saw him driving the car around, was running mint and sounded pretty;))but before I came to see the car the owner had flooded it, due to starting her on a cold morning and moving the car forward two feet and shutting the car off before letting the car warm itself....So right now I need to deflood her. This weekend I plan to deflood my baby...Anyways the flooded engine seems to be the only bad part of the car, the underbody of this car is also still mint. Anyways here she is.

Congrats, i'ma try and buy my neighbors 1990 bronco with a lift and 35's. He wants 200 bucks. It's mine this weekend!

Nice car man! I would never buy one, just because I'm not totally in love with carbon seal salesmen. :dopey: Beautiful purchase! 👍

Wow, I wish I had gotten what I truly wanted for a first car. A Civic isn't bad, but I would have been absolutely thrilled with a 240sx.

Have fun dude, take care of that car and make it last. Do 100% maintenance first, new oil, (don't buy anything cheap) new gear oil, new brake fluid, new radiator fluid, new clutch fluid, and do an extreme clean up, engine, interior, and outside.

You won't regret it later, you'll have a car that runs better than when you got it. It's a nice feeling, it makes you feel proud of yourself.

This thing is going to be my baby haha, the car will get the care and attention it deserves. Nothing cheap will go into the car only the best for my RX.:)

Awesome, I love it when someone drives their car hard but it still runs perfectly, it says a lot about the owner.

Have you noticed how often ricer's cars break down? At my tech school, they are always bringing in their cars to work on, always doing something to it, but it's never completely "fixed"

Haha, hopefully the flooding is the only issue for a while. My plan is to get a Turbo II hood as fast as I can so I can get rid of that ugly primered hood, either that or I can get the hood painted to match the car.
Hmm here's a cool pic of my car (In the distance) back before I owned it.

I wanted to give the car a nice handwash followed by a nice waxing when I got her yesterday, but it's been raining and it's been cold for the past two days.

It's cool that you stepped up and got a rotary as your first car. Most kids that know anything about them are scared by the possible maintenance (though the NA engines are pretty bullet proof), or they just don't know how they work at all.

Are new spark plugs a required part of deflooding these old rotaries? A plug job on a Renesis is pretty expensive, and they almost always get fouled. Oooo, and it looks like the Rex has its own garage!

 Guess what as soon as I saw that pic, Canadian Idiot just came on my MP3 player. I have it on shuffle too. Funny coincidence. Not that you're an idiot or something.

EDIT: @ Keef, are NA's really that reliable? I had no idea they were like that.... this car goes on my first car roster then. :D:tup:

NA rotaries last forever before needing a rebuild. Like, better than most Hondas. Of course, they're not that powerful, and making them powerful, especially by porting, drastically shortens their life.

But by maintenance I was referring to all the spark plugs, fuel, and oil that will no doubt be gobbled up. My god, if it was a turbo engine I would hope he made better money than I do...

A classic, classic, classic. I used to love this car, when I was a kid. Sweet choice. Congratulations on your first car! :)👍

Sure do!

Well the last owner frequented the Guelphracing.com forums and the car was at a few meets you must have seen pictures of the car at a meet. It was also listed for sale on Kijiji.

Well, thats not where I saw it. Did you post some pics on gtp yesterday? They were pics taken at night time in the driveway.

They were in the "what did you buy" thread.

edit: It's actually called "Show off your latest purchase"

I just had too, I'm too much of a rotary nut not to have one no matter what haha.
You're right the Rex has her own garage, my dad is going to let me put her in there as soon as we get the garage all cleaned up.
Yes, spark plugs are a required part in deflooding rotaries, another good tip is to pour in a teaspoon of automatic transmission fluid into the lower spark plug holes.

One day my FC will look like this......(Hey one can dream right?)

Awsome, she's a beaut! Those RX-7's (FC) are definately my favorite of the 3 generations.

Nice first car - sounds like you've got big plans for it. Just approach them with sense and honor - it's better to do a little less, but do it well, than it is to have an ambitious but unfinished project.

Enjoy it, and keep us posted on your progress.

Don't forget to replace those taillights with the cooler ones. I'm not sure with models they came on, but the ones that look like they have 3 circles inside.

I have the S4 FC RX-7 which was pretty much the 1986-1988 models, the S5 FC RX-7 from 1989-1991 were the ones with the different tailights and slightly changed bodywork. I love the look of the S5 tailights. To put S5 tailights on an S4 RX-7 requires slight modification to the tailight brackets.

Thanks for the kind words and I have no rush with what I want to do with this car, I'd rather do things slow and right rather than rush things and make potential errors.

I can't believe you're in Guelph, thats only 40 mins from me! Small world...

Nice choice for a first car, and definitely beats what I ended up with as a first (although, I'll bet that I paid far less for mine...$1! Woop woop!). Congrats, and keep us posted on her progress. 👍
