Yep! The lack of Cockpit view in NFS isn't that big of an issue for me, I hardly ever use it when playing racing games, let alone in arcade racers. The field of view is restricted too much compared to other views.

To be fair, I would imagine the % of cockpit view users to be less than 5 in Need For Speed.
I think cockpit view is unecessary for NFS. Cockpit is for sim-like games, not full arcade racers. Why should they spend the time to make a cockpit view that no-one will use? I'm glad there's no cockpit view in NFS

Valid question, not to mention how much graphical memory the interior detail will utilise. I mean, they could use it on more important things like wet and shiny tarmac! 💡

And think about PC users with lower end PC's. My PC can just about run MW 2005 at 30FPS, no way it would be able to do that if they incorporated cockpit cam...

I use it for added realism

Why shouldn't they? And you truely are underestimating the amount of people who will use a cockpit cam, take a look at Forza, Drive Club, Project Cars, The Crew, Test Drive Unlimited, All of those games have a cockpit cams, and there's a large amount of people using them. I find myself getting more precision in the car when I'm using the cockpit view, I can clearly see the dimensions of my car and make a better judgement on cornering.

I mean seriously, what is wrong with adding more immersion for those people that want it? You must not have been around in the 90's when everyone was using the cockpit view in the first era of the NFS games. Or the original Test drive 1 and 2. When Codemasters removed cockpit cam from grid 2 there was a huge demand for it back.

I sure as hell would like to see more options for customization and an proper cockpit view than a stupid storyline.

Edit:: Also NFS 3, and 4 and 5 had it.

IMO chase cam is best for "seeing the dimesnsons of the car" with hood cam being the best for making "judgement on cornering". Cockpit is great for immersion but the pillars of the car and the dashboard taking up half of your view makes it not the best for NFS. Cockpit is great in a game like Forza and Driveclub because you want to be immersed but in a fully arcade racing game it is best (IMO) that you have either chase, hood or bumper cam. The Crew and Test Drive mainly have it because they are trying to be as realistic as possible.

Also, I don't remmeber NFS 3 having cockpit view

Chase cam might work for you and that's fine, It's not as if I'm suggesting NOT to have anything besides cockpit, all I'm asking for is the option to experience the game in from the angle that I and my "Small" number of group want to. As for the cockpit taking up too much of the screen, that's true to a point, but some games actually have done cockpit view very well, NFS shift did it for example. For me I get more precision out of being in the cockpit or the hood cam.

Try to see this from our perspective, I speak for myself and those who do enjoy cockpit cam. Where else can you get into a high end sports car, jump into a police chase for fun. You can't do that in a Sim game, they will never have that. There's no harm in adding it to a game that has "Real cars, real fast" Some of us want to be in that car and experience it from an angle a lot of us here will never get to see. I don't want to just look at the car, I want to be in it. Even if it is an arcade game, adding some immersion is fun.

I could think of plenty of ways of making the cockpit useful, such as adding a radar to it, seeing it light up when cops are around, working gauges, Really it depends on how you implement the cockpit ofcourse. Yeah I get that this is asking too much for this "Reboot" But hopefully EA will do this in a future need for speed game. There are plenty of ways to implement what you see on a normal arcade hud, and implement it in the cockpit of your car. Even a GPS screen showing you the course.

And as for NFS 3 cockpit.. here you go. I can also pull up a video of high stakes and porsche unleashed, as having played NFS 3 quite a lot back in the day and NFS 4 I can most assuredly tell you they have cockpit views, maybe the playstation versions didn't but the PC version did.

That might be why, I never had the PC version

The PC version was awesome, Racing in the diablo SV with the weather on was fun, thunderstorms and all that. High stakes was also really great, there are hundreds and hundreds of cars you can download that were made by the NFS cars community. There were some amazing models too for its time, like this gem here
ldvtyuriy.jpg

There were lots of great models for it then, in car view and everything, NFS highstakes is still my favorite NFS period. From Fantasy cars to concepts, some were really well done, custom tracks were available too. It was probably the best need for speed "Sandbox" that we had at the time, PC version of course.

As for NFS 2015, I'm sure like the other games, someone will probably make a camera mod for fun.

*crashes through a police roadblock in a Porsche while in cockpit view.*

Actually that would make for great immersion, you could see the window getting smashed up from the inside as your car turns into a pile of rubble.

Or You can just not crash and go straight around the roadblock, looking outside your window watching the cop cars disappear into the rear view mirror, you have your gauges lit up, If there was any sort of customization you might have interior LED or Neon lights in your car, making the inside look kind of like a space ship.

Of course added realism isn't why I want a cockpit view, It's just how I like to drive regardless of whether its sim or arcade.

None of the games you listed has gameplay as frantic and over the top as NFS, that's why cockpit view is usable. Also Forza, PCARS and Grid are simcade/sim, so it's not comparable to an arcade racer. Imagine cockpit view in NFS: only 1/4 of your screen is usable, you're trying to outrun cops, dodge roadblocks and spikestrips, see the other racers, ENGAGE NITRO MOTION BLURRRR, MEGA JUMPPPP, and drifting sideways where you're facing the wall more than the road ahead. Cockpit view is great if you are just driving like in a simulator or the "calmer" arcade games, but is going to be totally uncompetitive in an action arcade game like NFS. You will probably only see it during customization and for the "wow" factor once, then it's back to bumper or chase cam.

BTW I have been with the series since NFS Road & Track. I love the cockpit view in that and NFS2 SE, but I understand why they removed it from later games (PS1 here not PC). The resources are better utilised elsewhere. With EA cutting corners in quality I'd rather have no cockpit view than a poorly implemented one (like The Crew with non-functioning mirrors, or Grid Autosport with blurred low poly cockpits).

It's the same argument with wheel support tbh. You need to use the right input method for the type of situation. You use a scalpel for brain surgery (wheel & cockpit view for sims), and you use a chainsaw to cut a tree (controller & chase cam for arcade). Not vice versa.

I Just gave an impression of how a cockpit view could work in NFS, with a lot of the gauges working a GPS and a radar system. I don't know why people intend to imagine the worst way of implementation and then think that's what it's going to be. That was not the case in the first era of NFS, and it's not the case now.

To be honest I found racing in PCARS a bit more frantic specially when there's weather. The action can get really intense in that game. I don't need to be forced into a chase cam just because it's arcade. I can still use a wheel even in an arcade racing game.

I mean look to each their own. What works for you doesn't necessarily apply to everyone. Vice versa. I was using cockpit view in nfs 3 and 4 and dodging spikestrips and roadblocks there. Just because it's an arcade game doesn't mean we shouldn't have it. Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean we shouldn't have it. I am disappointed because we haven't had a cockpit view in a proper NFS game since... NFS 5, here in 2015 we still don't have one. I don't count Shift or Pro street as a true NFS game.

However, given your point that it's "EA" and they're known to cut corners, you might be right, given that the quality could be so bad it would be unbearable. But that doesn't mean that it can't be done well enough to where it would be useful.

Where's the fun in that?

read the rest of my post, that's where the fun is. In a nutshell I'd like to have my interior looking like a spaceship. Maybe with some spaceship like features to sort of mess with the cops or something. I just figure that'd be the fun in not crashing.

Fair enough, point taken 👍 I would love to imagine a perfect NFS with fully working interiors where you can see everything. But as it stands now unless 50 inch triple screens or Oculus Rift becomes standard gaming peripheral, I don't think it's going to be useful. If you can drive with cockpit view with everything that's going on, that's awesome 👍 But for me I like the unobstructed bumper view. And most casual players they will stick to chase cam no matter what. I'd rather the development team spend time modelling more cars, customization parts and cities than something a few would use. But yes ideally there should be a choice for everyone.

Indeed, at this point I'm just venting my frustration, as far as modeling goes, I think the Art time could find time for it, or maybe add it in later on. Usually the art assets get done a lot quicker than the programming and design. Most casual players use chase cam, I know a few casual players who are like me and prefer cockpit, and if we don't get that, we use hood cam. I get the fact remains that us players who use cockpit are a minority, it just sucks that we're all but forgotten these days.

Someone might do it though, it may not be an NFS game but it might come out somewhere, its too bad the crew had bad physics and a non-working rearview mirror, I mean seriously what? Oh well I'll still play the game if its any good. Provided the "Always Online" doesn't screw everyone over. I really am just feeling like this is a quick replacement for NFS World which is now defunct.

Have you played Driver San Francisco? It has open world, lost of real licensed cars (wide variety from superminis, daily, sports, supercars and even trucks and buses!), VERY good physics, damage, and fully detailed cockpit view for ALL cars (working gauges, mirrors, the lot). The only drawback is no customization (you can only install nitro). But the driving is so good you'd rather keep the cars stock anyway.

And dear god I hope this is not a NFS World replacement. That's basically a microtransaction heaven with some gameplay layered on top :yuck:

Tbh i didn't enjoy Driver SF that much, the maps and the city felt dull so the great car handling felt wasted to me. The storyline doesn't make sense too (i know plots don't mean a thing in driving games like these)the timeline is really weird, it supposed to take place after Driver 3 but it looks like the timeline jumped 40 years lol

And please no, hope this NFS isn't a replacement of World.

Pretty much This...
I loved Driver SF, one of my favourite racing games on the PS3, and my favourite racing game of 2010.
...And This, I started playing driver SF once again and I used the cockpit view most of the time, yes I use chase view from time to time but I really enjoy using cockpit view in that game. Never understood why anyone hate the game, it's pretty good IMO.

That's one of those games that just kind of fall off my radar, I mean I knew about it it, I just had other things going on. Being an EVE player can be very time consuming =p

As for the NFS world replacement, I'm not really suggesting that its going to replace NFS World in every way, but to a point fill the void that NFS world left behind. Does that mean Microtransactions? Probably in the form of DLC, new cars and probably some special body kits. This is EA we're talking about here.

I'm just expecting the worst but hoping for the best. I really want NFS 2015 to be a great game. I can live with the no cockpit view. I just hope that this isn't another "Hey look at the graphics" *cough rivals cough* 30fps piece of crap. I want 60 fps, I need 60 FPS that will go along way towards my enjoyment of the game. And what is up with all the cars being wet? That happened in Rivals too and it annoyed the hell out of me, Here I am sitting in my garage or driving in the open desert and my car is wet. Dafaq?

See the one thing I love about driveclub minus the 30 fps, from what I've seen, is that the color fade is done really well in the game to make it look real, and it looks awesome. Project cars has this to a point as well. I'm not for the over the top holywood special effects guy. Less bloom please.
