Mmm, more GT-R. Guess it'll keep the kids happy

The very first original R35s are starting to become vaguely interesting, good-looking cars. It needs to die before it becomes the next Gallardo.

I had a horrible experience with frame rate drops last night. I tried to switch to "Play Alone" mode to solve it, but the frame rate was still abysmal, I'd hazard a guess that it was in the single figures. I had to restart my Xbone to get rid of the frame drops. :grumpy:

Mine too, I was about to say this.

I can see that they added the 2017 GTR for marketing reasons just like what they did to the BMW M2 which is a late addition to the game after the beta testing.

What's this games handling physics like? Similar to driveclub or worse? I don't reckon much to drive clubs revamped handling physics since the update. Is it worth buying.

Is it as good as forza horizon 2. As far as arcade or semi arcade goes, forza horizon is the best arcade experience I've experienced close to simulation. How big is the map, open world, how many cars are there and what kind of customization is there?

One word:

Frustrating.

Wow that bad huh. I wouldn't mind at the very least trying a demo if there is one available.

I did this with the crew, tried the beta demo and canceled my pre order from GAME so never actually bought the game in the end

I've still got the digital version of driveclub but now I never really play it. The only semi arcade I will probably buy and play is forza horizon 3.

I finally bought this game on a PS Sale about a week ago. A few hours in, here are my thoughts.

1) The game looks gorgeous. Really looks real-life like and the car models are detailed to a degree.

2) I don't mind much the dusk-dawn cycle, but their efforts on making it look amazing got me thinking that a full on day to night cycle with a proper weather system would look even more amazing.

3) I haaated Rivals for the constant crashes during AllDrive. But this is much more stable, haven't crashed even once, and multiplay races are easier to start.

4) I'm only half in to the storyline, its a nice departure from the dudebrofistings in Rivals, but I really need to see the cutscenes back 'cause I can't remember how the story goes until now. The slangs are cringey IMO (bae and whatnot)

5) The customization options are great, if a bit lacking in some cars. I can understand certain cars only have certain amount of kits available, but so far, its more than enough.

6) The audio part of the game is good too. The soundtracks are spot-on to the racing scene, and the engine sounds are nothing short of delicious music to my ears.

7) One bugbear for me : the handling. It is frustrating for me to gel with the game, so I end up drifting everywhere (which maybe is the point? Idk.). It looks cool, but I'd like to take a corner without horrible understeer too (on Grip settings). Also, I've noticed my input has a slight delay on the steering. Its a bit annoying, but not that bad. Hopefully the next NFS has a better handling physics that is accessible to everyone (as an arcade racing game should).

So overall, I'll give it a 3/5 rating. It looks good, it sounds great, the customization options are abundant, but the handling is frustrating for me. The game has an untapped potential, which I hope will be explored in the next installment. (played on PS4 for about 7 hours in)

P/S Found out that Amy was the Waif in Game of Thrones! No wonder she looked familiar.
PP/S I have the same opinion that the new GT-R is just a marketing strategy from NFS to coincide with a new car release, like the M2.

Customisation options for the 2017 GT-R:

  • Window Tint
  • Wing Mirrors - 2 - NFS Street Style Mirror + Fender Mirror
  • Splitter - 4
  • Exhaust - 5 - no bosozoku :(
  • Diffuser - 4
  • Spoiler - 7 - Liberty Walk, Seibon, Varis, NFS - cannot remove stock wing
  • Full tyre & brake customisation

Full performance customisation and tuning available, too.

No bodykits?

New GTR is cool but it would be nice if they added some of the cars people are actually asking for....

I think this was an easy addition because they didn't have to change much from the previous GTR. Easier to change a grille than introduce a whole different car.

The car has been entirely facelifted all around, they may share a basic shell and general shape but they are still very different vehicles.

I can't really complain because it's free but another GTR? I....why? It's pretty much the same car (they've changed the bodywork a bit, I know) and the physics engine isn't good enough to be able to tell the difference between the old one and the new one.

BTW if anyone is curious here's a front end comparison:

The 2017 looks a bit more aggressive.

I realize it's more than just a grille - I was exaggerating. But not by much. I see different bumpers and wheels. A 1st gen GTR is "very different" than the current GTR. But the differences between these? Not much. I'm sure it was easy enough for Ghost to do this which is why I'm not knocking them for it. I mean, it's a free car, so why not?

Okay, I'm downloading the update. But will I have garage space to put that new GT-R? I think not...
You might as well remove (if you have one) your 2014 GTR for the 2017 GTR. It may not have bodykits but its better to have a updated GTR than a 3 year old GTR.

The GT-R I have is the 24 years older one (the 1993 R32 V-spec). Also, I have a policy that I only buy those cars in NFS that Driveclub doesn't have (to ensure the higher variety of cars I can drive on my PS4). There's a 2015 GT-R in Driveclub...

Well, I think I'll sell my Silvia S15, I don't drive it much anyway. When I get done with the 2017 GT-R, I'll probably change it for a Cayman GT4.

I saw this and thought "turn that frown upside down." About all they did in my opinion.

From the developers point of view, they just need to change a few numbers here and there (power and weight probably) and that's it for the performance side of things. I doubt the physics engine has the ability to handle more parameters. Visually it's just a front fascia change. It's a lot easier to do than create a whole new car. Basically the whole thing is just a marketing exercise for Nissan and to pad the car count (like the GT86/BRZ/FRS).

I think we are reaching the point of diminishing returns in terms of graphics. First it's just GT padding the car count with dupes, now we have almost every other dev doing it as well (Forza, PCARS, AC, NFS, SLRE). I'd gladly take a graphics downgrade if it means we can have more unique cars all around.
