"We're about to release some of the coolest videos our guys have ever created but we're not quite ready to reveal them yet. I asked nicely so the video team created this very cool teaser video to show off just some of the great footage we've got planned. The videos will be going live at 12am Saturday, August 1st (EST) so be ready."

I realize this, but cars should not be recoverable from a near-sideways slide regardless of whether aids are on or not.

As I mentioned in my post, I've read about the game. I know the physics engine has been handled by the same team as GT Legends and GTR2. That doesn't change the fact that this is a NFS game. I don't know about you, but I've noticed a common trend with the last 6 NFS games; they suck if you're looking for simulation.

Like I've said earlier, I haven't played a lot of NFS game. My only experience with the franchise has been limited to NFS: Hot Pursuit and Porsche Unleashed and while there is no way that I could remember the actual driving physics (I was in my teen years when fun as oppose to realism was paramount). Perhaps my limited exposure to the game made me a little less jaded.
I think if you're looking for a real simulation, SHIFT wouldn't be the choice. Even EA and SMS mentioned right off the gate that this game is less about driving simulation and geared more towards providing you with an "authentic racing experience". But that doesn't mean the at the physics will be absolutely horrible. In the Nordschliefe video, the driver (besides using a gamepad) not only has the driving aids on but most definitely on the easiest physics (eg. GT5P Arcade as oppose to Pro mode). Here's from drivingitalia interview with SMS Ian Bell on the easier driving mode:

Regarding the three difficulty modes promised. I was wondering how you plan to meet them. The method used in GTR2 and related sims (Build one hardcore physics engine, then apply all assists for new/arcade-oriented/wimpy drivers, and allow the driver to turn them off) or separate physics engines for each difficulty?

IB: There is one core physics engine underneath everything. Novice modes will not just have driving aids, but will also have a slightly relaxed driving model, slightly increased grip, and other changes to ensure accessibility while maintaining the soul of the individual cars and the soul of the SHIFT experience.

Personally, I think having different modes (as in GT5P) is the best way. I find that in games like Forza and Ferrari Challenge where you just turn off the drving aids to achieve a better physics is a bit off. Some cars (like the ferrari 599 and the Scuderia), the traction control and stablity management is a vital part of its design and handling. And i believe most of the racing cars in WTCC have TCS.

You should also notice that none, bar ProStreet, shot for simulated physics to begin with & were all Blackbox.

EA wanted a simulation NFS, & they know Blackbox isn't their first choice to do so. Hence why they pawned Blackbox to creating your typical NFS games, & hired a well-respected team who has experience in modeling realistic physics; why else would they grab RBR's tire modeler if they didn't want realism? To waste his time? EA's cheap & greedy, but they're not dumb.

Duly noted, but you can't ignore the video footage. Watch that Lamborghini video again on the last page. Watch the action of the car, especially when he switches to the external rear view. Seriously, WTF is this?

Vehicles should not be that easily recoverable from a sideways slide, aids or not.

maybe with super grip and very forgiving tire slip curves that are features in the easy mode, along with steering assistance, traction control, brake assistance etc.

This would be a valid concern if we knew what mode the lap was done in.

Fair enough.

It probably seems like I'm being overly negative about this game. That isn't quite right though. I really hope EA brings the goods this time. I've been waiting a long time for EA to get their ducks in a row and bring us supercars again. I realize they've done this in the last few games but the physics engines were absolute crap and I'm sure you'd agree. I've been burned and burned and burned by everything with a NFS label.

I really want EA to bring it. I want them to succeed in delivering this. But can you understand where I'm coming from when EA says, "We're going to deliver a hardcore sim experience on a console", and then I see that video?

This picture makes me drool. Looks pretty impressive. Nice Livery too!
Is it confirmed that the full Nordschleife will be in the game? If so, i wouldnt
doubt a 'shift' to better physics. Still, i wouldn't be surprise if the gameplay
is somewhere close to GRID. Looking at numerous trailers and gameplay vids,
well... so far so good. Maybe... or not... we'll see.

*fingers crossed*

Also, when is the demo coming out?

Yeah that picture is very nice, I'm not so sure about the teeth around the grill liveries I've been seeing though.

Nordschleife is confirmed, and you can watch a whole lap of it in a gallardo on the previous page, although the driving is terrible and all aids are on.

Demo is confirmed but I don't think an exact date has been, mid-August seems the likely bet.

Maybe this has been mentioned in this thread and I missed it but are you an EA or SMS insider like Berca?

  • If so, can you please tell me/us if Shift will have a multi setup featrue on the PS3 like GT3/GT4!
  • Is the pc version going to have better graphics than the console version?
  • Is Shift actually project Falcon?
Berca doesn't answer my PM, so if you're an insider and you're allowed to answer at least the first 2 questions, I'd be very pleased.

No Kikie, just someone looking forward to a new game released by SMS (incl. Eero).

The text copied is from the official NFS site, so you need Berca for the answers.

why is this game receiving so much hate? I think this will be something to keep me going until GT5 eventually releases

Holy 🤬 the Nurburgring!

Really?...

You just had to copy that whole post, only to say how excited you are about the Ring?

We're all excited, but there's no reason to use all that bandwidth for such a small post.

;)

I don't think anyone's hating on Shift. On the contrary, it looks so promising that it's really going to hurt if it turns out to be GRiD-like in the end.

I think people are just psychologically preparing themselves for the possibility of a major disappointment. :nervous:

I still don't get what everyone's problem was with GRiD, It was never promised to be a Hardcore Sim so I'm not so sure what was so dissapointing about it. Seems like the same is happening with Shift, people are expecting something that hasn't been promised by the makers themselves.

Well moderators should edit his post.

And for what? Because the person that posted that response is too lazy to do it on his own?

love the paintjob on the Porsche. lol

Also - I heard a rumor about the NFS:Underground series going it's own separate way with a different firm?

As far as the "hate" goes -- I don't think it's truly 'hate' but, more like 'not holding their breath' - because every time they come out with a game within a year after the previous one, it's usually not even close to living up to the hype. NFS knows how to hype their games.. and at least the last 3 games haven't really lived up to the hype. I mean, I beat NFS:Carbon (again) in less than 4 hours; I wasn't even into ProStreet, so I dunno that i'll get into this one, either. I do like GRiD though, it might be because I'm a muscle-car nerd (Viper, anything Mopar, etc.)

The hype surrounding these games before they're released tend to suggest that they will be all-things-to-all-people, so naturally, people read into it what they will. After the fact, it becomes clearer what the game really is.

At this point, does anyone understand what SHIFT is really going to be like? The past history of the franchise & the developers point to the possibility of a more sim-based or a more arcade-based game. The implication of the hype is that it will have an arcade-like mode for those who want arcade, & sim-like mode for those who want sim. But how likely are they, to be able to pull off both these things in a single game?

This is actually the attempt to go a separate way with the new "firm", SMS. Blackbox, however, will still be pumping out a street racing game for NFS.

I believe, Criterion Games of the Burnout series has been given the mantle to develop the next NFS game.

The Nurburgring video on the previous page is down. Anyone else have a link?

Someone's been given a cease and desist letter :)

Interesting. I think the steering is a bit twitchy, then again, its obvious he's using a controller. I like the vibration inside cockpit view, it feels more immersive. Would be nice to incorporate that in GT5.

And man, i love the sound of straight cut gears :sly: music to my ears!

As you can see he didn't edit by himself. So YES, moderators are here to maintain the order!

I really hope the "Straight cut gears" noise you love so much comes via modification. I'd be very annoyed if standard road cars had that noise.

Calm down.

Sometimes an error needs to be left up for a bit, to drill the message home. :sly:

The steering is twitchy in Forza 2, when a controller is used. Smooth as silk with a decent wheel. I'd be surprised if we saw a vid with decent (wheel driven) gameplay until the Demo is released.

;)

EA started to step up the marketing campaign with some very, non gameplay ;) , cool vids about the driver's experience 👍
