Considering the Coke Vics and Coke trucks that replaced the Hot Wheels trucks, as well as previous Dr. Pepper promotions, I am somehow not surprised in the slightest.

Well that's a strange tie in. Seems like they'd at least do a custom livery car or something.

Also any word on the additional cars coming? I'm really keen on building up some old Volvo's

Hey, as long as there aren't exclusive cars like the racer 370Z in HP2010 or the Charger in MW2012, I'm satisfied

They officially still seem to be a few weeks away, but there are videos earlier in the thread that I've linked to at posts #1010 and #1018 showcasing getting a hold of them early, excluding the Cuda
Notably the Volvos are in the second video which showcases the 242 being quite a bit incomplete, which really is kinda 'mazing considering it was completely intact in 2015

So I decided to buy this game considering EB Games was selling it at 50 instead of 80 bucks Canadian.

I, like probably many others, came in with the lowest of expectations. After playing it for most of the day today, I guess I can say some things in bullet form:

- Environment feels really good. Lots of variety in the locales, from the desert to the redwoods. It really just drives home how piss poor Australia was as a location for FH3, because it's all flat road. Here it's actually nice to go from the desert, to the hills, to the streets and back.

- Car list is fantastic. There's some nice variety, and especially the trucks and SUV's feel really nice to have. It's probably the best car list in an NFS game since Undercover, IMO.

- The upgrading system is bad, no doubt about it. It tries to do the RPG system like The Crew did, but it really fails because in TC, it feels like it has a point. Here, it feels as if it's to prolong the game and add a gate to events. I would have much preferred the system from 2015.

- Likewise, gating body upgrades behind tasks is also a really stupid move. Why can't Ghost simply let all of the body upgrades be unlocked right from the get go?

- The derelict system seems like a cool idea, but it just feels like Ghost once again apeing something from a much more popular game. And like in Forza Horizon, it really just feels like padding.

- Handling is so much better. The fact that you can fine tune steering and all that on the fly definitely helps. No more crabwalking!

- Why are the cops even around if they are going to be sequestered to time trials, essentially? It really just proves that Ghost hasn't been able to deliver on one of the core tenets of a modern NFS game in the three games they've made.

- Really glad that Ghost is really focusing on adding grime to the soundtrack. Probably the most amount of grime in a videogame since, what, Carbon?

Definitely, if you're comparing this game to 2015, this is such a significant leap forward that it isn't funny in the slightest. I'm having a feeling that I never had playing 2015: actual, godforsaken fun. With that in mind though, there's some noticeable problems, and a lot of it comes down to the upgrade system.

I think the best way to describe Ghost Games' tenure with NFS is that it's like DC Films. If Rivals was Man of Steel, and 2015 Batman vs. Superman, then Payback is Wonder Woman: definitely the best effort...but compared to other arcade racing games, it isn't really saying much.

Also, going to ask right now: is the Plymouth Cuda DLC or what? Because I've seen it being raced in the race league, and I know it's in the game...but it's not in any of the dealerships. I'm kind of doing a playthrough using only American vehicles, and I kind of wanted to make the Cuda the centre piece.

Basically, the all-class cars that weren't the first five derelicts had some issues slighly noticeable on the 2000GT-R and very blatant on the Volvo 242 in videos that showcase them early and will take a few weeks to fix and make available, not sure why weeks though.

No skin off my back, still kind of sucks to not have the 'Cuda considering I was hoping to make it the centre piece car in my all American collection. Whatever, I'll probably just use the Camaro.

A bit of a stinker. Hopefully it'll be before Christmas (same goes for GT Sport) lest there is a massive screw up. If it is intentionally kept to the new year I'll be sorely disappointed. Won't stop me playing the game, but will taint future purchases from Ghost and EA.

I'm liking pretty much all of that, the Speedcross expansion seems fun. 👍

However, the only thing I am concerned about is the Drift mode playlist - you can already tell 99% of players are either going to be driving the Huracan or 240Z. :P

240Z is life. ;)

Speedcross is "Free" for Deluxe users, paid for Standard users.

Now only if I could get the drift setup good to do those activities.

Speed zones are finished.
Except one that I have to wait until night to do.

Then all I have left is drift and 3 stars on Drift.

Neat! I'm glad I bought the deluxe version when it was on sale - Paid the price of the standard edition and now I get DLC for free!

*I hope they continue with bug fixes and improvements... I'm really having very little trouble with the game, but the wrap editor bug is still driving me nuts.

What's interesting as part of the December 19th update is that when you engage in an abandoned car cop chase, there are no checkpoints and time limits like there are in bait crates (source).

It's not quite "freeroam chases" but it is certainly a step in the right direction. Keen to see if the police are still aggressive when they don't have to follow a fixed route.

EDIT: Now I am starting to get a feeling these changes are forming the basis for an expansion where you play as Jess.

You think we might get individual story arcs, maybe old foes from past adventures before the crew was a thing? Another of Tylers rivals, Mac now being challenged by wannabe racers and drifters, and a jilted boyfriend or pissed off police chief in Jess' past?

In the Speedcross DLC you play as Mac, so to me that implies there is going to be at least one expansion for each character.

Well I just finished up the game.
100%
With Platinum.
Wasn't too bad on the drifting as I thought.

Seems the unreleased cars were unreleased because they're gonna be in a... ...gimmicky system
  • Those Abandoned cars cop chases, start line, finish line, no checkpoints. Get to the end whichever way you want.
  • They[abandoned cars] are not derelicts.
  • The RX-7 is the first one, goes live on Tuesday in a random location in the world. When the next car arrives, the RX-7 will be removed from the game world until the next time it appears. Once you've found an abandoned car, and escaped with it, you'll then be able to purchase it at any of the dealerships (except Speedcross).

Really cannot be doing with the whole give an take away notion of the abandoned cars. Put them in gradually if you want, but keep them in. I'm one of a number of players who isn't playing a game religiously enough to appreciate such enticement and would really appreciate the content be available when I want to look for it. Such acts require a certain amount of commitment and dedication to play which some people can't afford to give. Really poor move EA. Put the cars in and keep them in.

P.S I'm aware the cars are open to purchase once stolen, but the intial tease really shouldn't be there and the cars just left in the game to be found as and when imo.

That Abandoned cars system remind me of those missions in LA Rush where you have to recover the cars that were taken away from you.

Seeing that DLC made me convinced that I'll just buy the Deluxe edition then.
