@Famine: Because Waltz is an Oscar winner, that's why. Though I do concede that they give those things out like candy to a crying child.

Honestly though, Waltz is one of the better actors that has emerged in the last 5-10 years. Give Inglorious B******* a watch and see if it doesn't change your opinion.
He's just flavour of the moment - he's spent 30 years doing absolutely nothing (German language made-for-TV films and the occasional TV series), then Inglourious Basterds, then some rubbish (seen Green Hornet? He, as with the rest of the film, was awful), then Django Unchained. He's nothing particularly captivating as an actor and apparently is only well rated when working with Tarantino (who, unless it's being recrewed, isn't directing "Spectre").

It's just a popular name cast because it's popular - hence the sarcastic "Why not grab Jennifer Lawrence and Neil Patrick Harris while they're at it?". Then they could guarantee the film will be popular on Reddit or whatever without having to lift a finger.

And as the above would suggest, I've seen Inglourious Basterds. It's rubbish - and largely self-indulgent Tarantino rubbish at that. I've not seen Django Unchained yet because Tarantino's only put together one good film from the four I've seen and that doesn't compel me to see the others.

I'm not sure about the casting, but as long as they make the story good with it being a little less serious, only a little.
Skyfall is overrated,Royale and Quantum are better, hopefully SPECTRE will be similar, but with gadgets, namely car related gadgetry.
Also the DB10 looks...weird.

This brings up a very interesting question, what will happen to Quantum and Mr. White? Are they going to appear in the film at all?
I believe Jesper Christiensen has confirmed he will reprise his role. Personally, I think it's pretty much a given - if the producers want SPECTRE to return, then they have to address what happened to Quantum.

HP are going to have words! Maybe Spectre could use one as his laptop

They should have used the vanquish instead of the DB10.

I think the new Lagonda would have been a perfect choice.

Christoph Waltz has been confirmed as playing Franz Oberhauser, which draws on one of the more obscure Fleming sources. During the short story Octopussy in the Octopussy and The Living Daylights collection, Bond references Hannes Oberhauser, an Austrian family friend who taught him to ski. This is the only time in the entire Bond continuity that he is mentioned. It's believed that Franz Oberhauser will be Hannes' son, though he is an original creation; Octopussy never makes any mention of him.

Skyfall is overrated,Royale and Quantum are better
That's pretty much the opposite the general consensus among fans. CR is considered to be a very good film, and SF one of the best in the series. There are huge problems with QOS, though, both in the production and the execution.

All three are terrible films with ridiculous afterthought villains (a banker and a middle-manager; a businessman helping a corrupt general control water; a former MI6 agent not played by Sean Bean), awful theme music and a totally wasted, but excellent, Bond.

QOS is the worst of the three by some margin, but Casino Royale was a rotter (suddenly parkour! That's in right now, right? Okay, let's do that then!) and Skyfall was a 2 hour long frank admission that they'd got it totally, totally wrong trying to outBourne Bourne - returning to M in his Whitehall offices, giving Bond a Quartermaster and reinstating Miss Moneypenny - rendered unwatchable by the threat of hearing Adele and an utterly ludicrous villain acted in the such an over the top fashion that even Brosnan's Bond would have dropped his Walther and walked out, exclaiming "🤬 this, this is ridiculous, I'm done."

Craig's great though.

Funnily enough, Django Unchained is the only Tarantino film I like.

Casino Royale was weird, haven't watched QOS. I enjoyed Skyfall but was annoyed at the story; not only Silva's ludicrous plan and having access to M's HRT cycle given how he shadows her but mainly the way they made it cast iron that this is James Bond and his parents died in a mountain climbing accident and "James Bond" isn't a pseudonym for whomever is rank 007 which, reboot or not, mostly explains the other six Bonds.

Craig's great though.

Almost as good as Dalton. Bias.

interesting choices all round. It will be interesting how they portray Spectre also whilst keeping in keeping with the more down to earth approach of the latest films.

Also, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp fiction for the win.. Jackie Brown was okay, everything else... Rubbish.

Yeah QOS Goldfinger reference was a bit last minute.
That's not the issue.

First, there was the script. Paul Haggis completed his first draft an hour before the Writers' Guild strike cane into effect, and filming basically started without a finalised draft. It was constantly being rewritten by Haggis and Joshua Zetumer and basically became an anti-Bond film. The scene in the bar where Bond questions neo-imperialism is held up as one of the worst in the franchise because it's Hollywood Liberalism at its worst.

The film itself failed in what it was trying to do. The whole premise was built on the idea that Bond would go through hell and high water to get answers, which was a fascinating concept, but the execution failed when it just went for constant action - a car chase, a foot chase, a fistfight, another fistfight, and a boat chase. It's not until Bregenz that the film remembers it is supposed to have a plot, and then it decides no, it's time for a plane chase! (That said, the whole Austria scene is very stylish and well-executed.)

The casting was a complete let-down - Amalric was completely anonymous, Kurylenko was boring, Taubmanis notorious as a complete joke, and Cosio had nothing interesting to do.

Yeah, thought to myself when i watched QOS that Bond kept changing his clothes too often because he is constantly getting into gunfights, fist fights and stuff .

I love the car chase though. The build up in the intro where they showed the gunmen, then the DBS and Bond realizing he's been chased before he revved that DBS through the tunnel is just cool.

Now that the news has had a chance to sink in, some fan speculation is emerging. The predominant idea is that Blofeld will stage a hostile takeover of Quantum.

I take it you're quite the Bond fan.
CR is my favourite of the Craig films, possibly of all the Bond entries so far.
What's your favourite?
Also Bond should drive this...

@stiggygonzalez The DB10 looks like a car created for a Bond game whose creators failed to get a licence for real Bond vehicles. So they went with something vaguely 'Aston Martin'.

One thing the DB10 does have going for it is how incredibly inconspicuous it looks compared to, say...

Also Bond should drive this...

This. Which is more 'Spy Hunter' than 'Bond'. It doesn't fit the latter franchise one bit.

He's nothing particularly captivating as an actor and apparently is only well rated when working with Tarantino (who, unless it's being recrewed, isn't directing "Spectre").
I think the appeal of Waltz is that his inflection, cadence and his mannerisms really fit the archetype of some of the literary villains, mostly General Grubozaboyschikov and Seraffimo Spang. But he also fits some of the allies, like Dikko Henderson and John Strangways.

And while his best work might have come from Tarantino, I find Sam Mendes has a pretty deft ability to bring out the best in his actors and craft a film true to the originals, so I think he can tap into Waltz's talent.

Spectre is continuing the trend established in Skyfall of posting clap boards on Twitter:

That's Jack the Bulldog - the paperweight M bequeathed to Bond at the end of Skyfall - on the right. Between that at the scene number, it looks like this scene is set in Bond's office.

Filming bas been taking place in and around London, including:
Bond and Tanner cruising down the Thames past a bomb-damaged Vauxhall Cross building (damage to be digitally edited in during post-production).

And a scene in Bond's flat where he gets a late-night visit from Moneypenny; judging by her garb, it's a professional visit.
