The WRS is based around people submitting times to a central, trusted person (currently CFM) who also sets the "race". They publish the results every week. Cheating does happen, but can be weeded out by rigourous use of replay verification (certain devices - X-Port, Sharkport, MaxDrive, but NOT Gameshark allow transfer of replay information files to a PC and back, so you can download a replay and upload it to the 'net and other people may download it and view on their own PS2).

You can play GT4 online by confusing the PS2 with tunnelling software into thinking it's in a LAN game with another PS2 - when it's actually linked to your PC and the big wide world. Search for "XLink" and you'll find out more information.

hi !
I'm new here, in this genius site.

I hope you can help me with some questions:

- how can we race together on the net, with GT4, when they say the game can't go online at the internet???
-and how?
- must I have computer to connect the PS2 to?
- and have to joined this genius happening!!!

Hi,

Welcome to the WRS (Weekly Race Series), please goto this link to get all the answers to your questions :

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61770

But to quickly answer your questions :

1. We race on our own at home, just like normal racing in GT4. eg. you do a race and send in your time for the race of the week, please read all the threads here to get to understand how it works.
2. No, your only need a computer to submit your laptime (if you do a very good time).
3. Please go here to do the qualification race :

Famine, have you been sleeping??, the central person is CFM!!!, i expect better from you

honestly.

Forgot about that. It's rare that I enter here these days. I'm more worried about finishing the game than I am about the WRS right now, although I'll certainly be turning up when the big 1-0-0 hits... :D

I am intrested in joining the WRS but have no way of submiting a replay to verify my times.
I do not have a PC at home, I have internet access at university.
Am I still allowed to race?

Mailing a spare memory card to a trusted member can also be done if absolutely necessary. The only times that need to be verified are times that are well ahead of others in your division, or leaders of Div. 1. Basically if your time is suspicious compared to your previous runs, or your qualifier time, are well above your division, or your final time does not add up with your splt times, then you will be queried. If this would not be a problem for you in the chance that verification will be needed, then feel free to participate. If you're new to OLR than chances are you won't be near the top right away, as the competition is quite tough. As long as you are being honest, you won't have much to worry about. Alot of us old timers have a knack for picking out a cheat.:)

Can i prove my time with i video from my digital camera ?

Its a possibility or what ?

The only way for acceptable verification is to get the actual file from your memory card to the website here by using a replay device, such as Max Drive, AR Max, X-Port, etc so that others may view it on their own PS2. Or by mailing a spare memory card to another driver that is near you and has one of these devices so that they can upload the file. It is very difficult to see any questionable areas with a video. Reply devices are rather cheap if ordered on the web, and are fairly useful for other things besides the WRS. You can still participate without a replay device, but if one of your times is questioned by myself or another driver, than the file must be provided accordingly, or the time will have to be removed from the results. Generally only times that are unusually fast based on your division and previous runs will be questioned, though I can't say that will always be the case. Hope I answered your questions.:)

After doing a search I couldn't find an exact answer to this one so could someone please tell me...

The rules say 2 wheels must be on the track at all times - does this mean I can shorten corners by driving my inside wheels over the grass or would that be considered 'cutting a corner'?

Yes,driving with two wheels on the grass is legal.

Cutting corners is four wheels of the track.

Thanks for that 👍
It's my first week in the WRS and I was wondering why I was a few seconds behind the other Div3 drivers when I'm generally a pretty good driver, or so I like to think :)

Welcome to WRS, somebody.

The word you're searching for is ... humbling. I thought I was pretty good, too. Now I'm just glad to have a somewhat decent D3 time, having seen the level of the competition.

Hang around the forum, read what people are posting, and if you can, download replays from the races and watch 'em. You'll get a feel for how and why people are going around quickly.

About the digital camera thing again, what if an onboard camera video were to be sent or both a normal replay and an onboard replay? i probably will never need to prove anything but im not going to spend $50(i live in canada) to get a USB memory stick just for one thing. Maybe this digital camera video could be a possibility? I probably will not have anything suspisoius but just in case....

Video is just too difficult to see everything if there is a close call. Having the actual replay file lets everyone view it from all angles and pause it whenever they like. Mailing a spare mem card in the post is an option also in the off chance that a time is questioned, there are a few well known guys in Canada that can help with that. I also have a spare Sharkport or mem card that could be mailed to someone to borrow as long as I get it back!:scared: But that's the very last resort.

Basically, videos of runs will not be an option here at the WRS, to keep it fair to all drivers.👍

So if i cannot "prove" my time with the replay CFM will delete my time from that week results is that so ?
I need to know it please, before starting to play Qual :)

You will only be DQ'ed if you are ASKED to provide a replay. If you don't provide a replay or at least provide a form of indication that it is being taken care of then yes, you will be "removed" from that weeks times.

If you are not asked to provide a replay, then you stay in the rankings for that week.

And it's worth adding, that the odds of you being asked are slim ... unless you turn in a ridiculously fast time or win your division.

How do you submit your time?

I'm assuming; for the regular WRS weekly races, by submitting a final time, that means sending CFM a PM with your division number, your T times, and your total lap time, am I correct?

I realise that in the rules times may be required to be validated, but I don't have an Action Replay to save the replays. I do, however, have a capture card. Would this be sufficient to prove a lap time if it were required?

Hi I have a slim PS2 too and I use the AR max drive.
I bought it at Best Buy. You can also check online stores like www.play.com
They have a Max drive but it works fine too.

Just to be sure, is that thing the Max Drive. Sure that it'll work on my slim PS2?

Thank you

Hi there MKay,

If the slim PS2 has an USB port (which I'm sure it has), then yes that's the correct thing ! Looks almost like a normal USB memory stick. So yes, that's the right thing to have. Just ensure you get the one for your PS2, NTSC or PAL ... 👍 It works quite well, I have exactly the same one.
