Yourself?

youve been quiet, then again so have i :dopey:

Good to hear man 👍 and good luck with the results :)

I've been away from racing for a good month or so but hopefully I can get back into it starting with Icemans race .... it's a great combo .... looking forward to my new DFP today :sly: .... thats if it comes today? or I'll be on the phone moaning and whining for sure

Good to see the Usual Suspects still around competing 👍
Take it sleazy guys :)

Lol, yeah, like vexd said, no one here isn't a great guy, I was just mixin it up a bit. But yup, it seems like there are already less of the less serious racers around, because our total numbers have dwindled a bit for the past couple of weeks, maybe due to some vacations, maybe due to people time constraints, etc.

And to add to what the WRS is about, not just chasing other people's times, but to improve onesself! There was a post in either this week's thread or this week's results thread that said what he learned these past few weeks from each week.

Race on and have fun!

I wasn't sure where to put this post, so I added it here. (Sorry if it is in the wrong place).

I would like to ask a question regarding the rules of the OLR, specifically the "2 wheels on the track at all times" and "Cutting corners".

When driving at Trial mountain (WRS Week 17), is it considered clean to run over the curbs with the 2 inside wheels touching the dirt? Or is this considered as Cutting corners?

I ask this because turn 1, 2 aswell as the last few sweeps/bends lend themselves to curb hopping.

Thanks in advance. 👍

well, i think, since the curb is part of the track... that wheels on curbs don´t count as off-track, only your two wheels on dirt, which seems to be ok, altought is a great question...

i hope to hear from those more experienced with OLR, before a resume my runs with the RX-7...

Yes, you can put 2 wheels completly in the dirt, and even get your 3rd and 4th tires in the dirt a little bit, as long as any part of your 3rd and 4th wheels are in contact with the track (rumble strips) at all times.

Hi CFM, I never knew that ... I always thought that 2 tyres must be fully on the track (2 whole tyres that is) ... interesting ! Should help that little bit, thanks for that !

Hi eveyone,

I'm so don't slaughter me for this one.

I have completed the beginner and professional events, except for the final race in the professional event. It keeps telling me I have to complete all beginner and professional events for me to enter the race.

Am I missing something :ill:

Hi there, general GT4 questions like this go in the General GT4 forum, found over here:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=55

This section here is for discussion related to the WRS (Weekly Race Series). If you look in the GT4 General section, you can find all the answers you need, especially if you do a search. With thousands and thosands of peole asking the same questions, virtually every question has been answered several times.

To answer your question, I would suspect that in one of your races you have a bronze trophy instead of a gold, they look very similar. You have to have all gold in each individual race as weel as a gold for races that are a connected series. Look over all your beginner and professional events and make sure you don't have a broze mixed in with your golds.

quick question... I didn't see a link in my read through of this thread for a place to get a Max Drive in the US? (or similar replay saving device)
I'm super broke and need the cheapest possible save game dumping device.
(its a shame that gt4 won't save on a ps1 mem card, else i'd just use my old dusty dex-drive)

They have the Max Drive at my local Best Buy for 19.99. A lot of people have ordered theirs through play-asia.com, at least I think thats what it's called. And there's always ebay if all else fails.:)

hmm... i'll have to check the store. BestBuy's website only had the AR MAX listed.
$20 sounds fair though... Wish i could just nab software that would fool the ps2 into thinking a normal memory stick was a memcard though.
would have also been nice if sony had the foresight to allow the bios to dump memcards to usb memory.
anyway... thanks for the tip, i'll have to stop at bestbuy on my way home from work; maybe i'll get myself a birthday present.

It seems that most people are semi-cutting (2 of 4 whells outside the track) to get the fastest times...

To have a fast lap (or to compete with the top guys), do you have to semi-cut corners?

When I race, I try to make it as real as possible...I stay, most of the time, completly on the track...curb do not count...of course

I wonder, if I qualify without semi-cutting, will i do well?

thx

depends on your driving style, but i guess no...

you can´t limit the use of the track... by OLR rules, off tracks only happens if you put 3 wheels on the dirt... in a lot of corners, you have to go hard on the curbs, to not lose a lot of time... Infineon, the track you will be qualifying on, is as example of that... is some turns, you just have to be agressive... but, like i said, depends your driving style... anyway, just remember to keep 2 wheels on track all the time and you will be fine

Hi there,

Ok, just to clarify. WRS rules are 2 wheels on the track or rumble strips always. Simple as that. 2 wheels must be on the track/rumble strips always.

Watch any motorsport and you'll see that curb hopping is certainly used everywhere, thus it's allowed here as well. Obviously by cutting corners but still keeping 2 tyres on the road or rumble strips will be faster than only strictly staying on the tarmac ...

You will certainly lose time if you don't rideo n the curbs, but it also depends on the track ! Some tracks have lower/flatter rumble strips than others ...

I always ride on the curb, but not any further... i never (almost never) have two wheels outside the curb...will i be competitive?

Hi niclorin!

Don't worry 'bout it man! That's the beauty of WRS. There are 3 different divisions, and all sorts of skill levels even within the divisions. Come on out and play! You'll find someone close to you to race with. 👍 We're all about having fun, and learning to drive a bit better.

Even if you start in a lower division, you can move up divisions once you get the hang of things........just give the qualifier your best shot. Four or five hours would not be too much to spend on it! Probably more like 7-8 hours.
Good luck! Hope to see you out here. :)

Thank's for the response...i will join shorthly...just bought myself a maxdrive yesterday....only have to do the qualifying race now...

but I still have a question...

Everybody keeps on saying to spend 4-5 hours (or even more) on the qualifying race...Now, I know that if I would spend 10 hours on the qual. race, i would get a good time...but I'm not sure that i'll be able to spent that much time on each race every week to get my perfect time...

i dont want to be over qualified...if you know what i mean...

on the other hand guess i could spend 10 hrs and still rank in the last division... :) / :guilty: / :nervous:

NOTE: I cant wait for real on-line racing...only one chance to perform against the others...not 10 hours to make the perfect lap...if you screw up...that's it...better chance next time....

Great! Glad to hear you have made the commitment to not only race, but to be able to verify! 👍

Ahhhhh! But the more time you spend, the better you get, and eventually you don't need to spend as much time on it to be faster right out of the box. :)

The other thing about WRS, is that you can run as much or as little as your schedule allows. It's just friendly competition after all :sly: To tell the truth, I think the last division is probably the most competitive. 👍
One of the problems with Div.3 is new racers that don't give the quali a fair shot, and then proceed to beat up on all the true div.3 racers until they get promoted to a higher division.
But nobody expects you to run a perfect quals lap. Just a good fair effort and a good representation of what you are capable of.

.......and, how will you improve your skills for real on-line racing without much experience or practice? Yes there are some very fast guys here. How did they get fast? Practice! 👍

I have found that I have learned much not only from the fastest guys, but from many different racers from all divisions who have different perspectives on driving, setups, and technique.

Just my 2 cents.

Soooo..... how fast are you really? :nervous: :scared: :D

you're not alone... I don't believe in using the grass either.
I'll take kerbs when i need them but i never do 2 on the kerb and 2 on the grass... thats just silly IMO. in the last 15 or so years that i've been watching motorsport, the only time i've ever seen a car put 2 wheels off-track on purpose is in WRC events. but in F1 & GT racing, using that much grass on slicks is suicide.

Right, what I want to ask is can I use a standard USB drive to transfer the save games from GT4 to my PC? Or do I need a Maxdrive?
I'll buy one if I have to, just wanted to know if it was necessary.
Thanks Rad.

You need the max drive software (or other similar product) to transfer files from the memory card to the USB drive, but you can use any USB drive along with the max drive software.

So if I got the software, I wouldn't need the max drive USB stick?
Does the max drive software have to be on my pc to transfer or on a disc in my pc?

Yeah, that's correct

edit: I don't know if you can just buy the software though

When you buy the max drive, you get two discs. One disc is for the PS2 and the other is for your PC. You must use the max drive PS2 disc to transfer files from your PS2 memory card to the USB drive, or vice versa, but you don't need to use the PC disc (as long as you're running a fairly recent version of windows).

Alright, Cheers for clearing that up Amp. Looks like I'll just buy it then, it only 9.99 from www.play.com.

Yeah, i've been looking for a free alternative to getting the AR MAX software... but the problem comes in the form of the ps2 needing to boot into special software to copy from a memcard to a usb stick.
and there is 3rd party software that can do it, but you need to chip your ps2 to boot anything but a comercial stamped cd.
Rather than spend $30 on cheat software simply to copy things to a pc (since i could care less about any of the cheat features of these things) I think i'm just going to spend that money on a network adapter and plunk a hard drive into the ps2
i think there is much more value in being able to plunk gt4 on the HDD, eliminating load times, + gaining the ability to push memcard data over my network onto my main pc.
HD Advance > AR Max
