NEW EXPLOIT - Tyre "healing" without stopping

To be serious again, maybe its off-topic, but for me the worst cheating is to downgrade your DR by intentionaly loosing to keep /fall down to D-Level to gain dozens/ hundreds of wins, because you stole and demotivate the slower/ unpractised players, who have the right to win in their league. If you don't get those trophys for 91 (as i remember) wins for example by normal playing, then its not ment to be. Just that simple.
If you think about it, allowing player DR to go backwards in the algorithm makes no logical sense either. Since when is it possible for a driver's skill to erode over a short period of time in a video game? It would make much more sense for your driver rating to move up until you plateau and then only go down slightly here and there to allow for a potential small erosion of skills. Allowing it to fall only leaves it open to being gamed, and that's exactly what happens when people sandbag their DR.

Matchmaking is partly to blame for this. At max SR you almost always get matched with an S/S player and multiple A/S players with qualifying times much faster than any DR.D to DR.B is capable off. I've seen many rooms at B/S where qualifying times have over a 10 sec spread, S/S to D/S in the room. It's smarter to drop SR to get better match making yet that's not well known. Clean driving early gets punished early. The game fails at creating fair leagues.

The first time players find out 'sandbagging' DR makes things easier is when trying to complete the clean race achievement. When you get nearer the 15 clean streak, why risk it on getting bumped in the race, just stay behind. Actually if you quit the race after getting bumped, your DR/SR goes down, yet you keep the clean streak. #gamelogic. (Wish I knew this when losing the clean streak at 10 and 12 due to idiots, yes then I stayed well away dropping down to 1 DR point, just going for the fastest lap after creating enough room)

Anyway I'm at A/S now, no need to sandbag anymore as the game now puts me in the rabbit position when I get pinballed around too much in a particularly dirty A/S race. SR at about 85 now puts me at the top of a room with mostly C/S and D/S players. Matchmaking....

So winning a race where the competition is of a much lower skill and speed level does that give you the same sense of accomplishment and satisfaction as say winning a race against equal or faster competition?

Would you actually not have a better racing experience racing for 11th place among people of an equal skill level than winning against someone much slower?

I just do not understand how beating slower, lower ranked players can be fulfilling. May as well be racing the AI.

Yes, of course. Those races against D/S and C/S are a waste of time and potential major DR killers in case you get punted off the track. In that sense there is still some excitement :/

Racing for 11th in a tight battle is much more fun. Racing for 11th in a room where the top simply disappears in the distance and only 4 people make it to the finish before the timer runs out in a daily race, nope not fun either.

Racing a tight battle in the top 5, now that's fun. Also not qualifying and gaining 10, 15 positions, lot of fun. Starting 11th, ending 11th in a slowly expanding parade, not fun.

it's kinda random what you get, however racing 'normally' the slowly expanding parade happens far too often in the sprint races in A/S. A lot of times its merely a showcase for your qualifying time. The former two versions are more easily gained at DR below where the game thinks you need to be. Obviously to do the classic GT style racing, start last, overtake lots, you need to be better than most of the field. Yet also the tight battles in the top happen more often if you qualify at the top with other 'sandbaggers'. Great racing without accidents to dodge.

I did most of my racing without qualifying which kept me around mid B. Then I spend some effort on qualifying a couple days and shot up to DR.A. That kinda made me wonder about how useless DR is. I wasn't suddenly a better racer, I simply started in a different spot, ahead of the mess, where it's very easy to maintain position. Then in A/S it evened out again and now I was starting in the back with qualifying, extra work, more boring races as now I was experiencing the expanding parade form of sprint races.

So I did a full reset of my DR, still getting matched with S/S, I lowered my SR as well. Finished up the 91 trophy while suddenly getting awesome tight battles for first place with B/B racers, while I'm D/B, C/B and the top all have DR.A level qualifying times. Weird way to find clean tight battles, yet that's apparently what was needed to get matchmaking to work.

After the 91 wins I went back to 'normal' racing, now gravitating to daily C as the sprint races are either pretty boring at A/S or very destructive with GR.1. The wins I get now are far less enjoyable as the ones at the lower levels as I only get a shot at winning when the game puts me in the rabbit position in a weak room, or when the S/S drivers in front of me take each other out. I can't pass people that lap 3 sec faster than me, yet the game always matches me with them. I get my pleasure from reaching the finish before the timer runs out :)

I have finished 1077 sport races, won about 107, shopped around all levels, each have their good, bad and boring races. I sure wouldn't have stuck around this long simply staying in the same spot. http://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?profile=1495257
Not working atm, update I guess.

Btw racing against the AI can be more exciting than A/S races. Clean win N200 against N1000 on Magiorre or a clean win with N400 Porsche in the Porsche endurance. Much better than a 3 lap parade.

I'm kind of feeling the effects of this myself. I just can't hang with most of the S/S and A/S drivers, but I am fast enough to consistently be placed with them for a while. And of those drivers that I am of a similar pace, I seem to lack the aggression to fight them off.

So lately, I've been having races where I start anywhere from 6th to 12th, and I end up losing about 4 or 5 places before the field just stretches out and I'm alone for the remaining three quarters of the race. It's not 'til I have a brutally tough race where I make mistakes and finish last that I'm suddenly placed in a different group the next race and have a fantastic battle with 2 or 3 others for the win.

If I keep driving at my best given the time I invest in this game alone, then I keep hitting this stagnant state where the races lose the "fun." I don't know, though. It could just be my attitude shifting from day to day. Mood swings I suppose you could call it.

I think this update was already finished and approved, the whole update process isn't just uploading it to the server.
Then disable tire wear in sport mode races. PD has supposedly been aware of this for 3 days now, and absolutely nothing has been done about it. There are endless reports of people exploiting this glitch both in Sport mode and online lobbies. Inexcusable

It would be really good trolling from PD if the most recent update is just a way to track who is doing the cheat, they could then fix the exploit and ban the cheats in next weeks update.

Oh dear. This will be a major problem in my league race, but if everyone's doing it, we're all even. If no one else knows about the glitch, I could exploit it for my own advantage. Then again I'll probably be banned quite quickly if I'm caught doing it:lol:

If someone doing it in my Championship he would get disqualified for the race...

Hopefully the maintenance this morning has fixed it

Eh? That's ridiculous.

For those of you talking about the patch not fixing this, you have to remember that this was first reported on GTP four days ago. Four days is not enough time to perform the following:
  1. Identify problem code
  2. Fix problem code
  3. Playtest
  4. Fix any potential issues from steps 2-3
  5. Fix and playtest any other issues that need to be addressed
  6. Finalize and submit patch for review by Sony/PS
  7. Get approval from Sony/PS to publish
  8. Publish patch.
Just to remind people. If they could just spam updates without an approval process, I think they would be churning out more.

Edit: Also, I'm not aware if this has even cropped up on other forums PD would likely look at.

People have been using the regen since December, PD gave out a ban warning at the end of January so they at least knew of the pit glitch by then. Regen is not addressed in the last update beginning of February, I wonder if they figure the ban threat is working or they figure to buy a bigger hammer.

Yup, this is PD in a nutshell over the past ten years.

I'm not really surprised the latest patch did not fix this exploit.
We only learned about this a few days ago, PD can't come up with an solution over night.
It has to be coded and tested than altered an tested again and so on.

And people saying "it's in the game so it's not cheating" that is just sad.
It's an unintentional game mechanic so exploiting it is still against the PSN terms and conditions.

I remember back in the early days of call of duty people went under the maps so they could shoot you and you couldn't see them.
By "it's in the game.." philosophy that wouldn't be cheating either.

Very recognizable! It's also the track and car combo. DR always lags behind your performance. If you do well for a couple days and then get a track / car combo you're not that good with you end up paying the price for your earlier performance.

It's usually getting down to 90 or lower SR that you suddenly get placed in a different more closely matched group. I think at max SR you have a high chance of ending up with the people that are used to driving alone up front, the fastest of the bunch. So indeed, after a particularly bad race you can suddenly find yourself in a room with similar 'rejects' :)

One thing is for sure, the higher you get, the less casual fun there is to be had. My first couple of races usually suck, there's no quick way to jump in any more and do reasonably well. I'm not that fond of qualifying, I only run 2 or 3 laps to be sure of the braking points, then enter. That time nowadays places me pretty much dead last, maybe one spot before the people that didn't bother to qualify. Then after a couple races I update my qualifying lap in between races and at some point my starting position improves enough and my DR has gone down enough to start doing well again. 6th to 12th is a very familiar place to start.

And yeah, the majority of my races follow a similar pattern nowadays, lose a bunch of positions to aggressive drivers in the first few corners, then slowly climb back up to my starting position, dodging the wrecks those aggressive drivers leave behind. At least by not qualifying for that golden lap I usually have plenty race pace to at least get back to my starting position.

If you only have an hour to play it's not worth entering in DR.A, at least not for me. Maybe add a weekly race for those who can't spend 3 hours on a daily race.
