Yeah, you should check his underwear - no wonder he's afraid of putting them in the game!

 seems like this has the same meaning everywhere....

He's one of the heads at Sony, no matter how hard printed are the skidmarks he can afford new tarmac to ride in a daily basis, Calvin Klein underwear doesn't cost too much. :D

Maybe a CK skidmark exclusive anyone? I won't be buying it though...

I refuse to wear boxers that have the german word for small (klein) printed on them.
BTT: Cars leaving rubber on the track would greatly add to immersion AND realism IMHO.

I do realise its not easy to do in a realistic way, but you can't really call yourself perfectionist if you leave out something that plays a big role in real-life racing.
Kaz said its irrelevant, it isn't. Listen to all the F1 commentary about starting on the dirty side and the loss of grip when leaving the ideal line.

Would be more honest to say: we don't have the time / RAM left to do it.
That would be ok with me, you can't have everything, but saying its not a big thing is wrong.

Another person who deserves a beer.

+1 to you, sir.

Yep, I agree. Even some of the now "retro games" were able to leave the indication of a wheel losing some of its rubber. OK, as you say it's not easy to do totally realistic and have them always persist, but I really don't care too much about persistence. I'd be happy with marks left after the start, and as you slide around corners maybe, or do some donuts, so that when you watch the replay, it looks more authentic. The fact that those marks will not be there the next lap...there are more important things in life to be honest!

If the marks from tyres arn't there and they do not represent what said marks do in real life, then that part of the game is a failure as far as I'm concerned.

PD/Sony have the hardware and they have more than had the time to implement it.

I'm sorry, but thats how I feel as far as that part of GT5 is concerned.

So, apart from looking realistic, are you saying you want them to persist. For how long? Just one race, or permanently? Do you want the skid mark and donut you made in your first race to be there and present on the same track after you have completed the game? If so, I think you are being a bit unrealistic in your expectations.

Not at all...(sorry,should have been more specific)When starting a new event or session on the track.

OK, fair enough. I guess there would still need to be a limit though, especially on long races. In a similar manner, contact with walls/barriers should leave marks that also persist in the same manner. Here's hoping.

They should last as long the RAM can hold them, 1 lap, 2 laps, doesn't matter to me, what matters is that this little things are totally important for the immersion and realistic feel of a racing game.
Would be a nice addition, if it would actually affect grip levels like in reality, of course.

Oh god, I didn't know it.....

That's why I never get pretty girls on the Oktoberfest... :ouch:

Time to learn how to speak deutsch, GT5 Uber alles in October!

I speak (well, read mostly these days) German and never made that connection... :dunce: I just don't like CK in general. 👎

Sod October; soon enough, come June and with it E3, we'll know: GT5 herrscht über allen ;)

1- Thats if you had something to worry about int he first place!

2- He could have been straight up and gave the technical reasons but i think Sony wouldnt be too happy their #1 Dev is saying their machine isnt cutting it.

But how well can it really be implemented? Temps that last one race or less, or permanent lines that stay forever and at the end of your 1000.hr GT journey all our circuits are nothing but skidmarks.

Also consider the fact that with dynamic weather it would be even harder to implement skidmarks realistically. The rubber tends to wash away from rain for example.

yeah well at least from that perspective it would mean less load on the machine as the weather conditions change:tup:

I know how you feel about oktoberfest...

As for the skidmarks, i'm sure they know how much people moan about it.

While it's something almost useless, i still don't know why they don't fix it. It would make people shut up about the subject.

You're a local in the Oktoberfest, that makes me jealous, Santa Catarina state is really a blessed land... ;)

About skidmarks, I can only turn to one little detail which is capable of explaining why we don't have skidmarks, or better trees or whatever tiny detail that people insist in complaining about:

GT5 is the foundation code, the mother game for all forthcoming GT titles, the code is all new, the modelling of the cars is new, the physics are new, we're getting new tracks, a fully functional online mode, and many other "new" improvements. So, I'll let a question: When you're perfecting such masterpiece, is there any room for secondary details like skidmarks? I don't think so.

Also, skidmarks now would mean only two things:
- Poor quality skidmarks, like the ones you get in NFS High Stakes. :yuck:
- Go back to game development, so PD can make skidmarks "As realistic as possible", as they do with everything. Not happening, fortunately. :D

16 years ago. It's not rocket science. Just sayin'...

Yeah, but those skidmarks would never fit the PD quality standards, gladly. They will make skidmarks when there's an engine designed to do so and consider track temperature, tire temperature, if the track is wet or not and these complex things that PD always took into consideration when implementing any feature in the game.

Don't get me wrong, skidmarks are very cool and add a nice touch to the race if they do come with smoke together, but for GT5 I consider them a total waste of time since the game was rebuilt from scratch. Focus is essential in a software project, that's why skidmarks won't be in GT5.

I wish before skidmarks they focus on more important track aspect such as different grip levels for different parts of the track.

In real racing, racing on the racing line is very important because it has more rubber, more grip.

Nothing frustrates me more than seeing on online races people going all over tha track when trying to overtake having no penaties for going on low grip zones.

If GT5 were able to add this, races would change dramaticaly, because people wouldn't have the option to run all over the track.

That to me, is way more important than skidmarks, altough they are both features related to the track.

And i think this isn't even to hard to implement, they just need to code different grip values for different parts of the track.

Hopefully PD is reading it...

Or maybe not if that means another delay:scared:

The new F1 game has varying grip levels, marbles off line, dirty tyres, wet racing with puddles and dry line forming.

The graphics aren't bad either. I just wish GT would do all this and keep the amazing gameplay.

Frustrating ATM.
