New GT5 footage of the Toyota-FT-86 Concept

I thought the tire squeal was pretty good. I really like the environments though. The one thing I have always felt GT could have used more of was tight mountain roads. I get sick of the same wide open circuits over and over again. Suzuka is a nice track but I have played it to hell. Same with Fuji.

One thing that worries me about the video, is that the car sounds like it has a paddle shifter. Hopefully it's available with a manual transmission, especially the real car. Or Toyota is going to have MANY upset people.

I don't think having a Home avatar will be a requirement to participate in the online aspects of GT5, if GT5 even uses the Home avatars. However, if they do use it, and you don't have one, they'll just give you a generic driver.

I mean the Home GT lobby, my bad.

Actually the only game I can think of for the GT series that had a Japanese Car on the cover was GT5 Prologue Spec 1...is there others?

Both GT1 and GT2 (Japanese version) are having Japanese cars on the cover. ;)

It's still far from what we could call better smoke. Smoke has its own physics, it should be taken away by aerodynamcal whirls behind car or wind and it should disperse very slowly.

This is real smoke, talk about day and night difference between this and that poor smoke in game.

Having that much overwhelming ammount of smoke would take up alot of the performance resources that the game engine is using, and that would most likely take away from other aspects in the game. That extreme ammount of smoke wouldn't be worth cutting down other aspects of the game in my opinion. I would rather have over 16 AI cars on track with average smoke than 10 cars on the track with overwhelming smoke.

That video is alittle overdoing it. And you are comparing a full blown drag burnout to a stock production car drift around a track, of couse a drag car would produce more extreme smoke while burning out than a normal street car taking turns on a track.

This was not about ammount, but about real smoke behaviour. I can see even from my chair that PD should let the clouds of smoke last longer and get them bigger and bigger during time and dispersing, moving them slightly in wind directon wouldn't mind too. This alone could really solve that poor prologue smoke. I actually think that all these effects are done now, after all the content is already in the game. So i cross my fingers.

I also want to see authentic smokes but i think ps3 cannot do it right now or the developers, it will take a lot of processing power and time for the developers. And i think frame rate will be hit a lot. anyway at leasty we see some smokes and skied marks, that will do for now. Wait for gt6 for full smoke effects

You might have to adjust your screen brightness but you can clearly see a distinguished gentleman with salt and pepper hair, very differnt from previous drivers we have seen(younger with glasses), can this mean we can use PS home characters as in-game representations?

Wow i hope we can actually scan our pictures to use as a face for drivers

Am I the only one who thinks the new track is a Japanese Touge? Toyota is from Japan, and the FT-86 is the supposed 'successor' of the AE86 (it even shows up while drifting at Fuji near the end), so it makes sense. The hairpins also look very similar to those at Haruna Pass (or Akina for Initial D geeks :sly:).

My 2 cents.

If they took away precious development time from other areas of the game to add something like that I would be pissed. Face mapping is a in depth system and would take alot of time implementing. Yeah that may be 'cool', but personally I would like to see 100% attention to important things such as damage, driving physics, collision physics, online features, livery editor, tire marks, better sound, etc.

I've gotta say that I love the new 86, and I hope it can keep up the good Hachi name 👍

But now on the video itself...AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICES THAT THE BIRDS ARE BACK?!

But everything you say (clouds lasting longer and moving in the wind) all takes up a lot of performance. The PS3 would need to calculate that in real time, and the longer the smoke stays, the more you have at once, which also need a lot of performance. This is why you can change the effect details in PC racing game in the graphics options. Because it has a huge impact in the overall performance.

I agree if it will just cause a delay no need to add it, maybe for gt6 3D. Anyway i still hope even with limited technology we can still see good smokes and skid marks from the tires

So any body think the mountain road course could be the Stelvio pass?

stelvio-pass1.jpg

Highly similar to the track in the video. But again just a little food for thought.

I don't think so, the road in the video is much wider than the Stelvio Pass road.

Would be a great addition to the game though :)

San Bernardino Pass - open sided tunnel, peppered with trees and mountains in the backdrop, similar roadside markings, rails, walls etc

It seems the most likely candidate.
