What the hell did I start? :odd:

Now we're talking about Forza and the "fact" (note the quotation, it indicates sarcasm) because it had engine swaps it broke the game - do half of you purposely think of stupid things to write? If that's the case, GT5 is already broken for having a car that everyone (including their dog) is going to whore online.

I think as long as the engine swaps are reasonable, like you can only swap a MR engine to a MR car, FF to FF, FR to FR, then that's ok. That means none of the ridiculous AWD Vipers that everyone had in Forza 3.

Next, engine swaps gotta be realistic enough so that you can't put a Veyron engine into a Cappuccino. Honestly, it sounds stupid as it is already. The best way to do it is to restrict engine swaps to cars in the same class. For example, K-cars, muscle cars, super cars, race cars...

If people can turn every car in GT into AWDs or throw the Veyron engine into a Cappuccino that can outrun a Group C car...then no, engine swaps should stay out of the game. Other than that, I think engine swaps will be generally welcomed by the nay-sayers.

The entire point of the Gran Turismo series, at least as far as I'm concerned, is to be able to drive the cars as they were designed by the manufacturers. I very much hope it stays that way.

This.

And it's already been confirmed, and stated over many times, that engine swaps are not in GT5. So what's with the discussion still going on? :dunce:

Not entirely true. To a certain extent you've always been able to add parts to cars and increase their horse power and lower their weight. It is just not as extreme as other racing sims but otherwise I get what you are saying.

No the entire point of Gran Turismo is to play the most true to life auto simulation game there is. I'm just asking to simulate common engine and drivetrain swaps. Engine swaps are very common in some forms of racing and should be added in the next game. If anybodies views on engine swaps as sacrilege then they can just leave the cars be. I can't believe some of you don't want more personalization. it's 2010 people!

I agree 100% 👍

I just don't see how you can balance something like this with over 1000 cars available. Realism is what we all want here, but you have to draw the line at a certain point otherwise the game gets to be to hardcore and drives away more casual players and loses some of its enjoyment as well.

Can we get back to the topic at hand? Now it's just seems like people are boosting they're post scores because people keep bringing up information that has already been answered. Please read posts and do research on GTP before bringing information that been already answered.

My thoughts exactly. If I want a different engine in the car, I will buy the car attached to the new engine, not swap it out.

I think the entire point of Gt is realism. It is realistic to swap engines but not to put just any engine in just any car the car needs to be able to accomadate the engine in the first place. putting a Hemi in a 911 would be quite a task.

As for Forza they did not put Audi AWD in everything. What they actually did was allowed an AWD swap in cars of every manufacturer that had an AWD car in the game. Ford had the RS2000 so you could put AWD in a Mustang or Ford GT. Dodge had the SRT so they let you put AWD in a Challenger or Charger. GM had no AWDs in the game so no GM was allowed the upgrade. Meaning they could not compete in most online races especially so in the classes from S down.

On top of that the AWD swap dropped the PI quite a lot allowing the car to get a large HP increase and only a minor handling penalty. The result was that an A600 AWD Ford GT would destroy an A600 RWD Ford GT. They also killed the custom public lobbies so it was not possible to place any restrictions on the public races other than those by T10. Overall the public online experience was a total farce.

Forza 2 allowed custom public lobbies, only a handful of cars could be made into AWD and you could place restrictions on your own public lobby. We used to run S class rwd only races quite often and had loads of fun before Froza 3 ruined it all.

Hopefully if PD learned anything from Forza it will be that the FM2 online system is better for most of us and this type of system needs to be there. If they feel the need for the FM3 type hoppers that would be ok so long as they do not overlook the fact that people like to race the way they want to race and meet new people at the same time meaning custom public lobbies is very important to the online success of the game.

Edit: Sorry for the OT post but after reading some of the posts here I thought it needed to be said.

Any news from SEMA yet?

??? any news from SEMA ....... i'm going crazy here .. feel like i may just past out .. someone please tell me anything new .......................

Guys, I'm assuming this thread is for the Gran Turismo Awards discussion. The thing is that the event starts at 9pm PST...about 40 minutes to wait.

If you want On-topic stuff, you might as well post cars that you think might have a chance to win and why...otherwise...I don't really see how OT we can be when there's nothing to OT with in the first place.

yes right east<>west time difference _-_ sorry

It's cool, I am horrible with time zones too and I have to keep track of it all the time with a friend who lives in New Zealand and another in Japan.

I take it there won't be any live streams or anything like that to watch on the internet?

So how are we going to know if they announce the date or w/e? Is Jordan attending or does he have anyone attending for him?

Car websites will almost surely be attending, plus if it's announced there then it's going to be all over Sony's various websites (PSblog, GT.com, Playstation.com).

The suspense in killing me. It's 12:20 here... I'm done studying for Dynamics, but I can't just go to sleep knowing what's going on. I'm such a nerd. But, hey, so are most of you.

I'm hoping some news comes soon..
