If your team has played about eight games so far, how about some mid-season assessing?
2-6 should NOT be the record a team with great expectations should have. Maybe 6-2, but not 2-6. So is the way of the 2013 Houston Texans. Those two wins weren't exactly pretty- being down for most of the game at San Diego on Monday night followed by a big tussle hosting Tennessee. Then... six straight losses- at Baltimore, a should-have-won game hosting Seattle, owned in San Francisco, punked by St. Louis at home, close-but-no-cigar at Kansas City, and most recently... another should-have-won game at home against Indianapolis. Matt Schaub's string of games with pick-sixes has been one big story in the Texans' futility. Case Keenum ended up getting the starting QB job starting with the at Kansas City game. His loose play style has given the Texans some new swagger on offense. Sadly, his efforts- including Andre Johnson's beast performance against Indy recently- all went for nothing as Keenum is 0-2 as a starting QB. This is like a pitcher who pitches an absolute gem but ends up losing because of poor run support. If the Texans are to turn around this season, everybody is going to need to step up, including Randy Bullock shanking all of his field goals which could have helped provide insurance in beating Indy on Sunday night. While unrealistic, if the Texans were to run the table and win out, they would finish 10-6. At this point, the Texans will either need to win the AFC South or somehow get an AFC Wild Card berth to save what little playoff hopes they have.
The real story here in Houston is still with Gary Kubiak's health. It seemed like Kubiak going down helped take the wind out of the Texans' sails on Sunday night. Understandable. However, you still have to play to win as best as you can. And when you're trying to snap a losing streak, any extra losses just makes the process feel even more depressing. The Texans can reverse this. Question is... will they?
And there you go- my 2-6 Texans. Anyone else want to offer a mid-season look at your team (or maybe some others)?
