It's only possible if they lose to the Jets. If they get 10 wins and beat the Jets twice, they are guaranteed in. Unless I missed something playing with the ESPN playoff machine, all Miami has to do is beat the Jets and either the Pats or the Ravens.
Nope. You missed something. Here is how it would play out where they get 10 wins, and the loss to any team would make no difference.
Week 13: Miami over New York.
Week 14: Miami over/loses to Baltimore, Cleveland over Indianapolis, Arizona over Kansas City (although this one doesn't really matter in the end if they win or lose it), New England over San Diego, Cincinnati over Pittsburgh.
Week 15: Pittsburgh over Atlanta, Miami over/loses to New England, Denver over San Diego, Cleveland over Cincinnati, Kansas City over Oakland (using this scenario, Baltimore's game vs. Jacksonville is meaningless).
Week 16: Miami over/loses to Minnesota, Cleveland over Carolina, Cincinnati over Denver, Kansas City over Pittsburgh.
Week 17: Cleveland over Baltimore, Kansas City over San Diego, Miami over New York.
The last game that would matter in this scenario, Cincinnati vs. Pittsburgh, is meaningless as it would just affect seeding.
Miami would finish 10-6, but would miss the playoffs as they lose a tie-breaker to Kansas City. They could finish 8-4 in the AFC and still miss the playoffs because it's possible that both Cincinnati and Cleveland can finish better outright, Cincinnati has a half game on Miami so they cannot tie them. If Cleveland wins the division (somehow) Cincinnati would have best chance at 1st wild card. If Kansas City goes 3-1, Miami would need Cincinnati to go 1-3.
