Why do you think PD hasn't been able to improve sound?

I have been watching videos from forza, pgr and forza and I was gutted to see how bad GT is when it comes to sound. You get goosebumps when you hear a lambhorghini in new nfs shift on the ring and the same in others.

I was thinking that GT sounds are more clean, professional and bland and on the other side the other games have more arcadish sounds, what PD doesn't realize is that they have to put more emphasis on sound and not just physics and graphics. They are too busy making the game realistic looking.

Lol when you look at the difference in number of cars GT deals with compared to forza and pgr then you understand. Try and make 1000 realistically sounding cars that sound like the real thing, add in the fact the player would modify the engine sounds with their own tuning and you get a huge amount of both game resources and production time that just really doesn't benefit the reward. At least not yet. I'd rather have GT sounds than NFS sounds where the lamborghini has some stupid blowoff valve and sounds like a WRX.

I feel you, if PD would just record the engines under a load, then we would see, rather, hear a great improvement in sound. I too wish they would realise, that sound immerses you into a game better than visuals.

To reece22345: They have been aquiring cd quality sound since GT2, and alot of the cars are the same, so the 1000 cars argument does really hold water.

So simple - can't believe they haven't thought of that! :banghead:

How am I supposed to know where they could have improved, I haven't even seen the game yet.

Without having the final retail copy of GT 5 in my hand I can't comment on it. But having said that, based on previous games, it wouldn't surprise me if GT 5 fell somewhat behind the others in the sound department.

I guess they just don't care about the sound as much as everything else. I was super disapointed in GT4 to learn the C5 Z06 sounded like it had a six cylinder in it. The same went for Camaro Z-28/SS. When I first played Forza 1 I was in heaven just for the fact the cars sounded like they did. I LOVED driving the Z06 and S281 Mustang, they sounded like they had an eight under the hood, it was realllly a welcomed thing to have in a sim-racing game. Anyways, I really hope that PD works on it for GT5. I think in 5P that the F2007 sounds pretty good, the C6 Z06 could use some work but still, better than it has been.

There are a few cars in Prologue that has a realistic, accurate or at least a good attempt: most of the tuned cars be it the Ford GT LM, the Corvette, the Viper or even the Elises. Even some of the stock cars: the 599, R35 GTR, the Lotuses and few others. The dreadful ones: the M3, the R8 and whole bunch more. There's no denying, it's one of the things that need attention and improvement (urgently).

Why does this comment always show up when someone has a problem with GT that they would like to see improved. I don't believe GT5 will be that different then Prolugue, other then minor tweaks. There is videos that show PD only records sounds while the car is in neutral, which is not an the proper why to go about it.

So you think that PD hasn't improved GT5 much in 2 years?

You'd rather have vacuum cleaners than an actual sound?

I'm sorry for GT fans, but if there is 1 thing EA does better than anyone else, it's producing car sounds & editing them to sound different when the player modifies them.

Is GT5 sound really that bad? Any videos with good audio that you can hear well?

They're not bad, per se, they just lack definite character. Whether that be crackling or just sheer depth...only a few cars in GT seem to have that to a degree.

Go to Youtube and check out almost any of the F2007 videos - it lacks the crackling and pop of both the engine and transmission, it's just loud.

Conversely, check out a video for the GT-R. Practically sounds exactly like the real thing.

To Reece atleast in nfs there is a sound of the wrx and in gt5p it sounds like a mixer, listen to it and no I am sorry the lambos sound brilliant in nfs and the thing about 1000cars its not an excuse,I'd rather not have the Demios,100 Skylines,Mazda hatchbacks and all the other useless cars and rather have better sound,PD wants to have 1000 cars then its their responsibility to make sure all these cars sound exactly the way they do in real life. They want to be the 'REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR' well then act like one.

To Terronium well said mate,in an f1 car you can hear the crackling when downshifting and valve popping in real life,in gt5p its not bad but its just constant screeching noise the kind of noise the f1 car would make near the rev limiter. When the F1 car has done few laps the engine oil gets dirty and it creates clots of air, vapourised fuel and fumes and when it comes out through the exhaust its like a bubble is bursting and thats what makes the crackling noise and its the same for most naturally aspirated engines. But GT never had it in any of its games.Thats why when we service our cars they sound crisp and clean.

I like the F2007 in 5P, though it does lack those things talked about. At least it's much better than the FGT F1 car in GT4. Maybe the sounds for 5P are going to be upgraded, or rather enhanced for GT5. I hope that none of the cars in GT5 sound like the ABT Audi TT in 4, thing sounded like metal in a garbage disposal at some RPM ranges.

I think the sound of most cars in GT5P has very good sound. GT4 was bad and I even posted a video of that on Youtube ages ago. I still don't want any regular car to sound like a supercar because most real cars sounds boring and they should sound boring in the game aswell.

edit: The poll choices is not really fair. I'd say the amount of content is the biggest reason.

Well you do realise there is a point at which the PS3 goes "ffs no more"? That's why we don't have dynamic damage, are you complaining about that and how that means it's not a "real driving simulator"? No, so at least be consistent in your argument.

People have to just be happy with what they get and learn that game development is an ever-evolving process. The PS3 is not an insanely awesome machine that can do everything, the developers aren't going to be insanely awesome and get everything right the first time, nor should they be expected to. Sure it would be nice if there were realistic sounds, as well as realistic trees, realistic damage, realistic AI, realistic lighting, 25 cars on track that on top of everything, looked like a HD TV replay of the latest F1 or V8 race.

Everyone is getting so far ahead of the technology that if you were to stick all of that in a game there would be absolutely no way it would run at a decent, if playable framerate. Not to mention the coding and developing that needs to go on to actually get those things right!

Give PD a break. The game will be awesome.

I know we are referring to sound effects but for me the overall sound on GT5P is miles better than on Forza.

When racing online or against the A.I, if a car is to my rear on the right hand side the sound of this car only comes out of my rear right speaker (have 5.1 set up). On Forza all the sounds came out of all the speakers because it wasn't properly programmed for 5.1.

There is more to sound than just the sound effects of the engines although I do realise how important these are.

this.. im sorry but i love GT from the bottom of my hart but engine noises have always been dire in GT and i dont know why.. noise is what makes a car listen to a zonda go past a full throttle and your hairs stand on end!

but even modified regular cars sound great.. supra with a Single turbo and a straight through pipe sound :sly:

but the engine noises in gt always fall short especially when compaired to other games such as NFS or Dirt has anyone played the new Dirt 2 demo. the cars sound great!

I downloaded the Dirt2 demo and deleted it after 10mins. Typical CM game all graphics, sound but crap physics and gameplay.

ill agree on the physics but the game did look visually good and sounded great.. apart from travis and Ken talking all the time.. i dont need to hear that 👎
