Why do you think PD hasn't been able to improve sound?

  • Too much attention on physics.

I think the sounds in GT5:P sound great, if only there were louder! That is my only complaint, is that the engine sounds are not loud enough in relation to wind, and other cars are not loud enough compared to how close / far away they are from your vehicale. You can only here a car in front or behind you if they are within mere feet!

The same for replays... For any camara angle that is somewhat far away from the cars, you can't even hear them until they get up close to the camara, and they they get quiet again as they get about 50 meters away.... GT does a great job having the sounds fade in and out from different directions and distances, they just need to turn it up a few notches.

Then why do some cars sound so good.... Mines skyline, Ferrari 599, ferrari f40 austin martin DB9...excettera

I downloaded the Dirt2 demo and deleted it after 10mins. Typical CM game all graphics, sound but crap physics and gameplay.

Graphics are not even that good. That frickin "bloom' effect sickens me. I think they use it to mask the fact that they have to leave some quality on the cutting room floor as a sacrificial lamb for some flavor of the month feature.

Prologue's sounds are pretty damn spot-on when it comes to bone stock cars. We'll see what happens when we add a sport/racing exhaust, through.

That's one thing people tend to forget. Yes, the WRX/V8's sound amazing in NFS, but to get that in real life you need to add a new muffler, possibly remove a cat or three, and add an intake.

I really have high hopes for GT5 after the sounds they put in Prologue,

just tried the Mines GTR skyline out, have u even heard an RB26DETT before

Engine sounds have 3 uses.

1) Pitch to change gear
2) To know when your back wheels start to spin or are spinning.
3) As a tool for optimizing gear ratios.

IE engine sounds ARE your rev counter.

Who cares if the sound is 'wrong', as long as it sounds like and engine and performs the above tasks. It's fine by me.

No doubt it's good for all that. Would you be happy if a Ferrari sounded like a Civic?

I sure do. How large of an undertaking is it to make the cars sound as they should? I would not mind less cars if they were all more accurate representations of themselves. BUT I'm going to buy the game regardless, so will most people here I think. As long as the exhaust is close, like the F2007 or the C6 Z06 in GT5P then I'll live. But sound like an engine even if it's the wrong engine? (Think C5 Z06 in GT4) I'll be unhappy.

It's not a total deal breaker, sure does ice the cake though.

guys the sounds are very good but if you have a good sound system and you have to put the volume high, you will hear quality, trust me!👍

Like I said, the GT5p Z06 is acceptable, the GT4 one is unacceptable.

Real C5Z Note: 402 LS6 stroker with heads and cams WILL sound better than stock but still, this car should have sounded much better in 4.

Real C6Z

I'm sure with a good bass system the GT5p car will sound even better. Just whats in these videos is what I want. But PD is not taking personal requests soooo.

from what i can see those side by side video comparisons show great improvements, both graphically and in sounds. i think P.D should focus on sound as it makes or breaks a car in some cases, for example i've found i tend to drive the mines r34 simply because of its crazy sound.

well i hope when gt5 comes out its packed with suprises, including sounds, skid marks etc.

p.s i really hope they upgrade the B.O.V noises on the cars especially the tuned ones, because they would be louder than usual, or maybe when you upgrade and put a bigger turbo on a car you will be able to hear the waste gate better.

Just got a small upgrade to my sound system, the Vette in Prologue definitely sounds better. In fact, it sounds quite awesome 👍

GT5P's cars sound more realistic than most people think specially on proper setups, also the sampling rate quality and 7.1 gives them a HiFi touch that few games have it.

GT5p C6 Z06 on a good set up i'm guessing 7.1 skip to 1:09 enjoy.

That is the most impressive Z06 ive heard on any game to date.

That might be a 7.1 source, but it sounds absolutely no different than what I've been hearing on Prologue. The sounds are a vast improvement, that's a given but they still lack that definite character I mentioned from earlier. For comparison's sake turn on FM2, and play with the Gallardo, the one car I think Turn 10 did an absolutely terrific job on. The tone depth as it gets farther into the distance is just sexy. I've played FM2 on countless occasions just to play with the Gallardo and drool when watching the replay.

I really don't get the "who cares if the sound is 'wrong'" or, "it's not really an important feature" and yet you criticize other racing titles for far simpler measures. It's a game, a game that has a library of vehicles in it - if anything proper algorithms should be the very first priority ahead of visual build-up.

Just like the S7 in GT4 - why the hell it sounded like a Viper is beyond me.

The galardo in forza 2 sounded like god making unusual love.

Woah! You gotta be kidding me. Hook up Forza 2 to your 5.1 system or even normal tv speakers. Play with the same corvette...THATS what it should sound like. Love it.

The sound characteristics are right in Prologue, you can hear what engine types theyre supposed to be.

But its nothing like the real thing and it takes away a lot of the feeling while playing unfortunately. I just hope we wont get the exact same sound for 80% of the racecars in GT5 like we had in GT4.

You know the sound between the real life in car Z06, and GT5P's in car Z06 sound, isn't that far off. Switching back and forth between both vids that LSX and TourqueHappenS08 posted, you can clearly hear the resemblance, granted the RL version sounds a bit more grunty and louder, but the tones are very close.

I feel you, if PD would just record the engines under a load, then we would see, rather, hear a great improvement in sound. I too wish they would realise, that sound immerses you into a game better than visuals.

Agreed 150%. I've never understood how they sometimes make 4cyl Civics louder than big block Chevelles. Examples of how V8s sound:

Somehow they're hardly audible in GT games, which is ridiculous. If they can nail that kinda sound...then wow...I'd never stop playing!

This is my first post on this site and I feel compelled to express my opinion as a long-time fan of GT.

The sounds in GT are nowhere near where they need to be for a franchise of this caliber.

First off, they are way too quiet. I remember in GT1 there was some Nissan 300 race car that I always used solely because it was loud and sounded like a proper racecar. Even if the cars sound like crap, please make the engine noises louder or give us the option to do that. I wouldn't even watch replays on the Le Sarthe circuit in GT4 because you couldn't even hear the cars.

I don't necessarily care how accurate the sounds are, but for God's sake make an American v8 sound like one and make a racecar sound like one. Even if they had a generic deep rumble for Corvettes, saleens, Mustangs, Shelby's, etc, that would be better than sounding like a spaceship. The car that made me laugh the most was the C5R Corvette in GT4. In real life, that things sounds so deep and mean it's actually scary. In GT, it sounds like a gust of wind.

I really hope GT5 ups the anty for engine sounds, but it is unlikely. They have had many, many years to improve them with little to zero success. I just wish PD would realize how extremely important engine sounds are to a game about cars. Bad sounds really deter from the enjoyment of the game and vice versa. Thanks for hearing me out everyone!

Welcome to :gtplanet: 👍

You should include another choice to your poll.
-Because polyphony puts a lot of cars in their games (800-1000) vs need for speed (Around 50-70)

But the Z06 Corvette in GT4 sound like 🤬. Is it a V6 special edition or what ? In no way a 7 liter V8 would sound like that. The tuned cars in GT5P (Corvette, Viper , Ford GT) sound like a freaking V6. Those cars have a V8 and the viper a V10. Why does they sound like that when they're tuned ? I hope we won't see that in GT5.:nervous:

Then again, Ferrari V8's don't sound like V8's. actually. i can't even put my finger on what a F430 sound's like, it just sounds like nothing ive ever heard before. This goes for the F40 to.

So you can make a V8 sound like anything. atleast that's my take on it.
