NFS Hot Pursuit 3

After playing the demo, I can say NFS is dead, the first Hot Pursuit had better handling than HP2, and HP2 better than HP3. HP3 isn't a simulation, neither a good arcade racer, it's even more annoying when the Burnout wreck cam gets in the way. Once again, they try too much instead of aiming at the basics of good gameplay, Test Drive had it wrong for decades then Unlimited came out, I guess NFS decided to go the opposite way. I'd rather play Hot Pursuit (1), Porsche Unleashed and High Stakes wich nailed the perfect arcade physics than play HP3, it's painful to play, it's not even fun anymore. EA needs less yes-man, all the flash ain't blinding me, and with the younger generation not having great NFS titles to bring them to the franchise time again, soon there will be no more fans and NFS sales will keep dropping release after release. Codemasters games are better, Forza is better, Gran Turismo better, PGR better, though we might never see a PGR5, Test Drive better. NFS used to be the best racer, then second to Gran Turismo, now they are dead last.

That's funny that you mention that 'cause I believe I saw this:

In one of the videos as the Gallardo Police livery.
It is. It's the cop counterpart for the LP560-4. The Balboni has one as well.

Well said!

You know, the previous Hot Pursuits have always had cop cars based on real life cop cars. In fact, I believe this is the first NFS game that has fictional police cars.

I don't think any of the cars in this game are fictional besides the police versions of the supercars. But they've done that as far back as NFS III.

El Nino from Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit FTW!. ;)

veyron grand-sport looks sexy in game though (screen from their site) and veyron cop car and it looks like nfs of old. Leave track racing to gt and forza, nfs do arcade sandbox games, that's the way they're meant to be.

I forgot about that. And was that from NFS High Stakes?

So, the New Hot Pursuit is the first HP game to feature fictional police cars since the El Nino. The thing is though, that there won't be many as the Murcialago, Viper, Gallardo, Porsche 911, BMW M3, Corvette and a lot of the others are real.

I don't think the 370 poilce car is real, either.

He said it was from Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit. And they aren't entirely fictional, the El Nino was a completely made up car but the Cayman, Murcielago etc are all real. Just have been made into a police car.

Besides some of them have been made into police cars, but have only been used for promotional use. Such as the Murcielago LP640 in the UK.

Yeah. LAPD have some awesome police cars:

Lamboghini Diablo (as seen in HP and High Stakes)
Lamborghini Murcielago
Crown Vic SMART car (that can drive itself. Yeah, it's the real KITT)
A Crown Vic Limo (mainly used to attend police functions)
SMART Car
Porches
BMWs
Chargers

And a few others.

The Viper Police car actually does it's rounds in Texas and Florida.

I wonder if this will make the cut:

They aren't the way they're portrayed, but NFS: III, I think High Stakes, HP2, as well as Most Wanted & Carbon if you count the Z06s, all had fictional police cars.

I don't know about Florida, but there definitely isn't one in Texas anymore.

Maybe as DLC.

So can you drive wherever you want and just cruise around in this? It would be nice to drive the Agera .

I didn't know cars could talk, nor did I know they could drool over cars in the same family as them. :P

Do you see me owning you sometime in the future, or for that matter, tell me how fast you really are.

 I am the only talking, drooling Koenigsegg [Clarkson voice] in the world... [/Clarkson voice]

From my understanding, free roam is more than available.

Ah so just like Undercover, Carbon and Most Wanted? Sorry for the questions but i've only started following this game lately.

Yeah. From what I understand, the game has some MMO qualities to it, as you can be cruising as a cop and run after speeders and things.

I agree here, although saying one game has better handling than another is subjective. Like I said a few pages ago I enjoyed the physics of the old NFS titles and HP3 is a bit too heavy and lethargic for me. But some people really seem to like it, it all depends on your driving style and what you expect from an arcade racer. NFS has never been about realism (no, we don't count Shift here, as it's not a traditional NFS title).

Once again, they try too much instead of aiming at the basics of good gameplay, Test Drive had it wrong for decades then Unlimited came out, I guess NFS decided to go the opposite way. I've always felt nothing matters more in a racer than gameplay. That's why I love Sega Rally Revo - it is extremely linear without any gimmicks whatsoever, but the replay value is in the physics - just like it should be with any classic arcade racing game. The ones you mentioned are certainly very good, however I would also include HP2 in that list because it is (in my opinion) the high point of the series in terms of scale, track design and physics.

EA needs less yes-man, all the flash ain't blinding me, and with the younger generation not having great NFS titles to bring them to the franchise time again, soon there will be no more fans and NFS sales will keep dropping release after release. I have a bit of a problem with what you're saying here though. This is probably the least flashiest NFS release since HP2. No customization, no full motion video, no ridiculous bloom lighting to overcompensate for a lack of graphical detail. The only thing I have seen EA drive home about this game is the inclusion of Autolog, which I feel is justified given how much more competitive it's made me and my friends. HP3 is the same thing the original NFS games were about: driving beautiful exotic cars through the world's most beautiful exotic locales while avoiding the cops. There are no frills here, and that's why I love it. If you're an old school fan, I don't know what else you would expect...

And here's another thing - NFS will never be a slouch in terms of sales. It's one of the biggest game franchises in history, and although it's fallen off over the last several years if anything EA's new three pronged strategy has already resulted in better products, and a return to form for the series.

Also, don't compare FM3 and GT5 with NFS. They've never been in the same genre. The first two aim for full-on simulation. Need for Speed is strictly about arcade racing. PGR and TDU are competitors, I'll give you that.

Sounds good, I think i'll pre-order. Thanks for clearing that up SuperShouden 👍

Man I hope there's a ghost car option for the police liveries. Nothing like seeing a seemingly normal looking car until all the LED's start flashing. I'll take an all black Crown Vic with pushbar.

I don't know, but from what EA and Criterion were saying, it seems like for multiplayer you can either directly challenge friends or enter cruise mode and there and have like 4 cops and 4 racers or whatever and have it out that way. But, I'm not sure.

i still do not understand where yo can possibly just go free roam, or maybe I'm confusing myself with the term "Sandbox".... From my understanding from the demo which I presume is the final version with locked out stuff. Where in the menu does it suggest "free roam"...? Or is "free-roaming" allowed when you go online?
