NFS Hot Pursuit 3

It's just very linear. All the routes are picked out for you, and a lot of the police missions in particular are just glorified time tirals, some of which are only two or three minutes long. And there's no real story to it, either - all you're doing is driving to a certain place because the game tells you to. You're not trying to foil a bank robbery or break up a street racing syndicate. Most of the missions are pretty homogenous, too: win this race, drive to this point to join a roadblock, take these racers out, etc. You're just driving. And most of the streets are just long sweepers and open hairpins that you can powerslide around; there's no city driving. The game had the potential to be on the scale of GRAND THEFT AUTO, but it's not. It looks and feels like an arcade game that has been ported to a console.

Never thought anyone would have a problem with driving, but the pursuit missions are only as short as that in the beginning, once you're higher up in rank you'll be chasing faster cars in a longer set path, you'll unlock more toys to use against said vigilantes, and they'll use most of the same maneuvers on you as well. It's almost the same as the previous Hot Pursuits. No, it isn't Most Wanted or Undercover...but that's what makes it better IMO. I loved Most Wanted, and yes, had it adopted a similar gameplay aspect (you cause a certain amount of trouble and an APB is out on you) it would have been better than it is now, but it's still tons of fun. In closing, if you want something similar to Grand Theft Auto then I'd suggest playing Grand Theft Auto.

It's a fun game inters, give it a try. The demo is still up, isn't it?

Also, Autolog is the all-inclusive incentive to trash-talk as many of your friends as possible when you beat a record. It could go further, but time will tell; if there's another HP title and Criterion is at the helm again, I'd fully expect it to be Burnout Lite. As it stands, Hot Pursuit is a modern interpretation of a classic, not necessarily for a new audience (as most, if not all of the classic features are present to some degree) but from a new perspective. It should have been called NFS Remix. :P

Can't blame the guys for sticking to what's worked tremendously well for them. It works for the game as well, but some may get the perception that it's more 'Burnout' and not enough 'Need For Speed'.

Don't forget about Free Drive. Probably the best part of the game, but, it could be better. A lot of the game does lack where it shouldn't (especially considering the developer that was at the helm) but it's a lot of fun where and when it counts.

I don't have a problem with driving, but lately I like games that have a little bit more to them. Take the original DRIVER game, for instance - at its core, it's the same as HOT PURSUIT in that you're taking part in police chases and various races. But unlike HOT PURSUIT, DRIVER has a whole story going on around it because you're an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the mafia by becoming a wheelman. Would it have been so difficult for HOT PURSUIT to come up with something similar? For example, you're looking to break up a syndicate that has been sponsoring top secret and very illegal road races across the country that contestants are forced to take part in against their will. After breaking up an amateur race, you stumble into the giant conpiracy and you have to be part racer, part police officer in order to break into the network. As a police officer, you have to take out racers to assume their place in The Race; as a racer, you have to try and stay in the game for as long as possible and take out other races without being caught.

And that's just off the top of my head.

So you want it to be similar in nature (if not even moreso) than Most Wanted?

I can't speak for Undercover as I haven't played too much of it (it's still dormant on my PC's HDD waiting to be played again) but Most Wanted was fantastic and had some of that been implemented, yeah, it would have been an even better game than it is now. I say you should still give it a try, kidnap a buddy and have him/her rent it.

I think Criterion actively stayed away from a storyline to tie it in with the old school NFS experience.

There's no story because it doesn't need one; it's doing exactly what the original NFS games did. If you want a storyline, play Underground up to Shift.

Driving games don't really need a storyline imo... in fact, with a storyline, all you get is only one very[/i ]good experience, and only one, because once you beat the game, that's it.

Without one however, you can have the same experience every time.

That's one of those things I don't like about story-based games, you can only replay through a story for so long until it no longer excites you since you know every detail of it by then.

Just got this game, and it's pretty cool blasting around in a Gallardo! I justbwish the cops would come after you or you could choose to chase racers...

Also, anyone noticed the bridge under-construction going over East Gorge Freeway and out across Lewis lake? Burnout paradise had something similar, and was also made by Criterion. In BP it led to a new island after downloading some DLC and would become drivable.

Brilliant game in my opinion. Exactly what NFS needs to be.

Indeed, reminds me of the old Hot Pursuits, theres no history per se, no maggie Q, no blacklist...

Its just you driving insane cars in long, beautiful roads..oh and yeh, with insane cops too 👍

Got the game for xmas, anyone else noticed that seacrest county sorta looks like an updated version of the tracks used in Hot Pursuit 2?

Awesome game. Having played older NFSs since PS1 times, there are a few things that I can't yet get used to, but it is still a blast to play.

There is one thing that's completely unacceptable to me, though. The lack of slit screen multiplayer. Other than that, it's a fine game and a true NFS game in my book.

Yes, many people have. :) And I believe it was intentional.

I'm glad there's a sudden rise of new players now. Hope to race against a few of you in the future.

I guess they only need to add Manual Transmission Option, Cockpit View and PLEASE, 80's and 90's Supercars, Lambo Diablo and Countach, Jaguar XJR13, XJ220, Isdera Commendatore, Vector W8....

The game is awesome. Right now I'm stuck on Against All Odds (Exotic Racer series in your starting area, it's a Hot Pursuit but you get no weapons), but other than that it's a blast to play.

I got the Limited Edition too. It was a real moneysucker at 70 bucks, but I'm thinking that means I don't have to spend money for the Online Pass.

You get an online pass when you purchase a new copy of the game, the online pass is just to catch people buying used. If anyone is stuck and needs help, I can post a video or something.

Holy CRAP! Why is the EMP so stupid? It doesn't even do what you expect it to do. I was trying to stop the stupid BMW M3 and all it does it damage the car a little bit. More of a shunt than an EMP. I mean, his jammer has more of a negative effect than my useless EMP does.

Hiya there, Some pics :dopey:

Someone made a thread appropriate for Hot Pursuit Photos here.... post it in there... did you touch up any photos with photoshop?

Oh, Sorry, my bad and yes, they are all touched up some with photomatix and some with photoshop 👍

...and yes, they are all touched up some with photomatix and some with photoshop 👍

Because if you didn't I'd have reported you for posting pictures too pretty to be raw from the game. 👍

EMPs take out over 40% of any car's health.... I wouldn't call it stupid by any means....

Not at level 1, it doesn't.

Impressions:

The map is definitely very Burnout 3, as is the way to earn Boost. Driving around feels like Burnout Paradise and NFS HP2. And it is the first game you don't have to buy cars since HP1. I love the graphics. Some of the cars are a little twitchy, but everything is still pretty awesome.

You didn't have to buy cars in Hot Pursuit 2...
Why are you still at level 1 EMP? Wait until you hit Level 3...

mf-dif, give up all hope with driving with a wheel in this game.... it was designed to be played on the analog stick.

let's race tonight or something, shouden. :)

I guess I can. I rented it, so, I'm just starting out and only have a trial online thing 'cause EA hates renters and pre-owned game buyers so all EA games now require you to either enter a stupid code or buy an Online pass for $10...which, is actually stupid 'cause they charger $4-$7 or more for DLC content and I'm sure they get plenty of money from those. I guess EA is just greedy bastards.
