And Jacques Martin gets fired. Meh, long term it makes no difference but I hope they at least get the typical short term boost fom changing coaches.

Oddly, that part hasn't happened this year, Hitch is the only one doing well after taking over a team. Stranger still, the Isles, Jackets, and Avs are not among the teams changing coaches.

Crazy ending in the Rangers game, GWG with 0.1 left on the clock in the 3rd. Bet the 24/7 producers are loving that.

That Winter Classic was a great game. That ending was intense, especially Briere's penalty shot. But Lundqvist shut him down as he had been doing the whole game. Without Lundqvist the Rangers would have had no chance.

Oh I hope we make the finals again.

Well I watched one of the best games in recent memory today. Too bad CBC and NBC were too stupid to pick up the only Stanley Cup rematch of the year to make it a nationally televised game.

Boston and Vancouver I'm talking about of course. Nice goals, a ton of fights, a bunch of hits, and one heck of a lot of hate. Fantastic hockey game made all the better by the fact we won :)

NBC had Saints v. Lions. No time for dumb hockey when you're talking Playoffs.

Saw that last night. Must be nice to unload a guy who has no interest in playing for Montreal and hates his coach.

Wow. Bruins vs Rangers, awesome game. Can't believe NY pipped us with a few seconds left in sudden death, after we had hung on through the Rangers powerplay. ARGHHHHHHHHH! I WANT TO BREAK PEOPLE!

As a bruins fan, the major wasn't even fair. Rule 41 states that:

A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

Looking at the footage, the guy wasn't really in a defenseless position. The hit was violent, but clean. Shows what teams the refs like, doesn't it. :sly:

I agree, the view from the rear really shows Ference making effort to hit McDonagh to the side, but obviously Rangers got the benefit of the doubt.

Looking forward to B's vs Flyers tonight, hopefully another close game (but this time with the right team winning! :sly:).

I just saw the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Washington Capitals in Overtime in Pittsburgh. A long-distance shot missed, but #71 for the Pens cleaned the mess up to win 4-3 in Overtime.

Jeez, talk about pushing our luck. Sad to hear about Nathan Horton but. Got a late hit to the head, never called. What is the NHL doing :nervous:

Yup, seems the league are quick to clamp down on the 'big, bad' Bruins, but not so much on other teams.

Ference gets a 3 game suspension for a pretty minor incident, yet a slapshot to the head of a guy who has already suffered severe concussion isn't serious enough to penalise!
Flyers were playing dirty as hell no doubt, i'm surprised Lucic and Chara didn't knock a few of them out for playing like little women.

It's getting difficult to watch games the whole way through because I get so frustrated, both at the Bruins for playing 55 minutes like amateurs, and the officials for being blind. Where has our dominating form from 2011 disappeared to? It used to be lockdown for 2 periods, and utter destruction of the opposition in the 3rd! :ouch:

Without Tim Thomas and Tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuukka we'd be getting our own a** handed to us every other game.

The Red Wings are doing great. It's made all that sweeter because just about every critic wrote us off at the start of the season. I think it's all down to Jimmy Howard, now THAT is a world class goaltender.

Just read the 2018 winter olympics are in south korea, meaning the south korean team will qualify to play  Imagine if the NHL goes and they play canada, usa, russia, or sweden

 and all the confused Korean people wondering what's going on. Actually it'd probably be sold out to Canadian fans.

Tim Thomas doesn't go with the team to the White House.... Selfish, unbelievably selfish. Suck it up and go with the team. Doesn't matter that you don't support the policies of the government or not you can still respect the president and you can still go be a part of the team which is being honored. Classless move and I don't think he fully thought out he is playing the next game in Washington and the all star game is in Ottawa.... Where Canada's federal government is. He is going to be heckled for some time to come I'd imagine.

Totally agree, maybe that's why Washington kicked our a**!

I think it was a dumb decision on him to not go, but I think it's being blown way out of proportion. I have a hard time believing anyone in the dressing room gives a 🤬 more than "oh, well we got to meet Obama and he missed out, bummer".

It's not classless at all. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion until it goes against that of the maintstream media... Celebrities and athletes use their status all the time to make their ignorant opinions about all kinds of things well known. He believes the government is out of control and doesn't want to associate with politicians. His team has already celebrated their victory together... months ago as it is. I'm pretty sure they don't care. They are grown-ass men and professional athletes. As a tax payer I would love to know how much these silly team white house visits cost and who is paying for them because the security, planning, and everything else that goes into ANYTHING the president does is NEVER cheap.

That's where I really really disagree. Boston is a good hockey market and they actually get coverage across the line. You think that all his teammates will appreciate all the questions they will face for the next while. It's no longer just sports reporters asking either, it's political newspaper reports too. The team as a whole was being honored with an invite to the Whitehouse. You don't take that and make it into a protest that is all about you. While I'm sure as grown men it isn't like going to Disneyland for kids but the Whitehouse visit is a special privilege and one that even the Canadians on the team appreciated. Why one player of the team feels that's the appropriate time mid season to make a protest is beyond me. Suck it up and go. After the season and team obligations are dealt with feel free to do whatever you life but now is certainly not the time.

Maybe classless is too harsh a word but it's definitely selfish.

On a positive note, huge respect for Taylor Hall. 2 assists tonight against the Canucks making it 3 points in 2 games since that cut. I can't believe he is even playing with the helmet needing to sit on that. Makes me shiver thinking about that.

Oh another negative note however Ovechkin makes a lame excuse why he "can't" (doesn't want to) attend the all star game. He says he can't because he is suspended... suspensions have no impact on the all star game. Washington GM says he just doesn't want to be a distraction.

It's sad to lose two superstars in one year like that. (Crosby and Ovechkin)

To avoid this I don't see why the NHL don't put it AFTER the play-offs. This is a big part of the season and to put this sham in the middle of it....eh, don't make sense.

I would be so afraid of that huge cut getting ripped back open... and I'm not sure how he can even see out of his left eye. The kid has some guts thats for sure.

Basically Ovechkin is just punishing fans who are paying at a lot money to see people like him play at the all-star game, in what seems like an attempt to spite the league. I'm really surprised the league is okay with it considering that point of view. Also, based on his comments he still either doesn't seem to understand what he did wrong, or doesn't care and isn't willing to learn from it. The point isn't to punish people after someone gets hurt... its to prevent them from making those plays in the first place.

but us red wings fans got lucky there as there was no sign that howard would pan out so well. Last year the wings panicked and tried to get nabokov, but now its all good minus ty conklin.
the other plus for the wings is that they have room in the budget cap to grab some more talent, i'm just not sure where they need it.

Was too busy watching the Rolex 24 at Daytona last night. Might try to catch the actual all star game since the race will be over then. Highlights from the skills competition looked pretty good though. Seemed like the guys were having a lot of fun anyway.

They did it again- Detroit defends home ice again. This time, a 3-2 victory over San Jose as the Detroit Red Wings make it 23 straight at home. I think Detroit heads on the road the next few games, so I'm sure they'll try and prove their worth away from MoTown. Congrats to Detroit!
